I offered up that possibility to Jet fans over at JI earlier this week. I proposed the Pats give the Jets Samuel for Revis and a 2nd round pick next year. Its a deal that works for both teams. The Jets have the cap room. Samuel is young enough to give the Jets a top 5 CB for the next 5 years.
For the Jets: They weaken a division opponent for a year or so. They solidify their secondary for the next half decade. A DB of Samuel, Rhodes, Coleman, and Dyson, would be one of the better foursomes in the league. They need that strong defensive backfield while they build their DL and LBs. With Samuel that happens IMMEDIATELY.
For the Pats: They get rid of a distraction. They have the overall defensive strength to be able to wait a year or two while Revis develops into a #1 CB. He has the size that is lacking in our current CB group. He is good enough to contribute immediately even if he isn't a starter. he also can play the return game. It give us 2 young studs to go with Hobbs, plus it will give us SIX first day picks in the next draft. I'd even do it for a third round if my feet were being held to the fire. Revis, Merriweather, Hobbs, Gay, is a nice nucleous of the next generation of DBs to continue this success pattern.
Clearly the best DB THIS YEAR would have to have Samuel in it. but I believe that the offense and the current CB depth we already have, would allow us to continue to be one of the favorites to get to the superbowl, and in the long run Revis would be a better value for the Pats...at least for the next 5 years.
Why is this ridiculous? Every time a team trades a player for a #1 draft pick (or any draft pick for that matter), they are trading for an unproven player. They don't even know which player until the draft.Ridiculous. Why trade for a completely unproven player?
What was wrong with it? Logical, well thought out and well presented, as usual from PatFanKen. If I were Ryan Leaf, I wouldn't be finding fault with Tom Brady. For a guy that has had great posts here at patsfans, Patfanken This was by far the worst fantasyland stuff I have ever seen you write
What make anyone think this is even a remote possiblility?
How about trading Samuel and one of our first rounder next year for Champ Bailey? It has about the same likelihood of happening.
Thats why Pioli does what he does and I am a molecular biologist......cause of ideas like this....dont worry.......useless banter will go away in a month....or at least subside a little
Yeah, but unfortunately, you'll still be posting.
