Houston Texans vs the Pats

Seems you're more into "teaching " Pats fans here than learning anything, given YOUR replies in this thread.
As to the rest of the squirming around in your response it's obvious you're attempting to play the "well, even though I don't care, Brady did something." card. All I was looking for. Enjoy the rest of your life with your head stuck up your posterior.

3 more on offense.

I don't really know what you're trying to glean from this stats comparison. One player is a 3-4 defensive end, the other a 4-3 linebacker -- comparing stats lines apples-to-apples doesn't make any sense, IMO.

For just one example, linebackers always make more tackles than linemen. So Jamie Collins made more tackles than J.J. Watt last year...but Collins ranked #39 among all LBs in tackles, while Watt ranked #1 among all defensive linemen in tackles. (And #1 among all defensive linemen in passes defensed. And #1 in sacks. And #1 in tackles for loss. Honestly, what more do you want from the guy?)
I really don't know what defensive player anyone would choose over JJ Watt. He's clearly the best in the game, judging by his DPOY award in 3/5 seasons and fact that he's insanely durable.

I recently had back surgery for a herniated disk and I still can't lift anything or even close the car door by myself all at once (I do it in steps). The procedure was about 5 weeks ago, so Watt is about 3 weeks in front of me in terms of a timeline. The fact that he didn't miss a game is amazing.

The fact that a couple of members think Watt is over rated means about zero. We have people that STILL rue the day Brady took Bledsoe's spot. JJ Watt is argument proof. That will never stop people from making negative arguments.

Sometimes I think sports fans are total whack jobs.

The only reason I can think off for choosing someone else over watt is if watt slept with your wife or something. Even then, if I was a head coach, maybe it's forgivable :D

Watt is the gronk of defense.

Anyone who think Watt is overrated as a football player is nuts. Like the above poster said, he is the Gronk of defense.

I wish you good recovery and patience.
Long term - I bet on your health over JJ's.

Consider this with regards to Patriots quarterback, Jacoby Brissett: Rookie quarterbacks are 0-6 in starts against the Texans since Bill O'Brien took over as Texans head coach. The Texans won those games by an average of 14 points. J.J. Watt has 10 sacks in those 6 games.

Still, Id file this under “So you're telling me there's a chance".
First, I guess no one of the 6 rookie QBs was on BB team.
Second, JB might be better prepared than anyone thinks. I guess the big share of snaps in the preseason BB gave him in training and games doesnt look so questionable today...

It is still a big ask to win against JJ, Clowney, Mercilus, Simon, McKinney. But if he can get his mind off the rushers and place the ball quick enough behind them, where a lot of space is opening he might be ok. More than ok.

Here are some words from Parcells:
Brissett won a Florida state championship for Dwyer, but Parcells was drawn to the young QB for reasons other than his strong arm. “He is tremendously dedicated, tremendously committed and he is smart,”
“I certainly wish he had more time to ingest the material,” Parcells said. “The keys are always the same keys. Do your work. Do your preparation. Try to comprehend the plan of attack that the coaches have laid out for you and make sure that you have an understanding, to the best of your ability on a short week and your first time around the league and not much experience playing, to give yourself the best chance to be successful, knowing full well it probably won’t go smoothly right away.”

Well the Bears are awful and KC did go down 24-3 at home to SD before coming back. So ya they came back so that's good but how do you go down 24-3 to SD at home?

The same way you give up 21 points to a woeful Miami team at home. Would anyone say the Pats are anything but a good team?

Watching the two HOU games briefly I have to say that with TB or JG this would be a walk in the park.
JB holds to the ball just a little too long for what their D does best. It will be a huge ask from our OL. But Im actually looking forward to the game plan they prepare for JB. Marty or/and Gronk could do some real damage to their slot and secondary.

They are pretty one dimensional on offense. Basically they have only two weapons - WRs Hopkins and Fuller. They can take big yds and do real damage though. I look forward to see our CBs taking on this task. But I count on McC and Harmon to bail them out. Fortunately thats all to worry about. TEs look nonexistent, running game lies solely on Miller and shouldn't be difficult to stop. They have big problems converting simple 3rd and shorts etc. They are ripe for some turnovers and apart from Ervin's returns their STs look weak.

There is a chance for win of course, but Id take a loss without injuries and than a walkover Bills.

two nice takes from Rich this morning ...

You should watch Watt play football. You should also listen to people who understand football and not worry about 'the media'
And, yes, Watt IS that good. Way better than Campbell or Suh.

My issue with Watt is not with what he does on the field but with that persona he build around himself. He just comes off like a giant, fake douchebag. I doubt that too many people are questioning his commitment or skills as a player.

I disagree, the secondary is very solid, but ILB core, they can be exposed by RB's and slot guys, also against runs in the middle, Wilfork is pretty much slightly better than trash this point in his career.

While I agree that given his age Wilfork is not what he used to be I would hesitate very much to call him "better than trash". You should watch the Texan's first two games, he does his job adequately well.

3rd in Total Yards allowed, and the D wasn't good the first six games until they made Andre Hal the starter at safety, but I guess you will have to wait to see how good they are this year. As for JJ its clear, that a guy who won 3 DMVP's in 4 years in your mind is over hyped. I get you are tired of seeing and hearing about him and his ****iness rubs you the wrong way, but being that he is probably the best defensive player of his generation it comes with the territory. Only him and LT have won the award 3 times, and he's probably not done. J.J. Watt is the only played to win the award unanimously, receiving 50 out of 50 first place votes in 2014. He was also a near-unanimous winner in 2012 as he earned 49 out of 50 votes. So I guess most would disagree.

You claimed 3 ranked defense. Not true.

FO also takes into account schedule. Beating up on Tenn, Jax and Indy should not count the same as beating Denver or NE.

SD WR Keenan Allen. He was shredding the KC defense until he blew out his ACL in the 2nd quarter. Woodhead was busting off 5 + runs and Gordon picking up tough yards.

The SD offense or defense wasnt the same in the 2nd half. SD made coaching mistakes too trying a FG at almost mid field and missing giving KC field position on a score. SD punted more in the 2nd half and the SD punter averaged 17 yards per punt.

The same way you give up 21 points to a woeful Miami team at home. Would anyone say the Pats are anything but a good team?

The Pats deliberately went into a shell and ran the clock out when Jimmy got hurt.

Ok, dude because I didn't follow the events or know everything about it I have my head up my posterior? I didn't care then and don't care now. Label me as ignorant, put me in a box if it makes you feel better. I'm not sure how my comments are rubbing you the wrong way or how anything i've said was about something other than football. I guess you have a problem talking football with someone who is not a PatsFan.

Yeah, and frankly Brissett was accurate on nearly all of his passes, he just had a few drops at inopportune times (and the Thuney hold which killed a promising drive). They relied on Gostkowski to win it for them; usually that's a surefire strategy.

The odd way more and more news keeps trickling out about Garoppolo makes me think he very well might start Thursday.

Its a passing league and JJ disrupts the passer while facing double teams. But if you really think Collins is just as disruptive as Watt there really is no point in debate, do you think any one of the 32 GM's in the league would pick him over JJ?

No they would not and thats why Belichick is a genius.

Belichick spreads the risk of injury out and chooses players that can play multiple roles. When Collins gets hurt and cant play, Belichick plugs somebody else in and the NE defense keeps on ticking. The NE defense is better with Collins, but the season is not lost with his absence.

If Watt cant play the Texans are screwed.
