Draft Day 2: Official Rounds 2-3 Thread

It's dumb. You want someone to realistically compete with Garapollo? Bring in a veteran. All this means to me is we are letting Garapollo walk when his contract is up.
I don't think it means that they're letting him walk when his contract is up, I think it means they hope he plays well and they'll take the best offer available on JG after next season. Brissett (or someone) would have to be active for weeks 1-4 if TBs suspension stands, but this way they have a guy in the program for a full year ready to be the backup in 2017.

I think you can debate which guy they picked for said role, and where they picked him, but that role does exist and filling it with a player they must like makes sense. It's certainly not about competition for Garroppolo this year - if Brady sits, he's playing, period.

In what reality do you honestly think Jimmy re-signs here? Just like Hoyer and Mallett he's gonna move on because the guy wants to start and Dallas, Houston and Cleveland always want former Patriots.
He would be dumb to re-sign here or know something the rest of us don't. Still I don't think that Brissett is any good. He couldn't beat out Driskell at UF and bailed and Driskell was one of the worst college QB's I have watched.

What if Pot Roast sacks Brisket in training camp ? I don't know, I got nuthin. I'm too tired and punch drunk from these picks.

Pot Roast believes in the 3 second rule. All should be good.

Well, the third round is over and the Pats have 8 picks left (7 in the 6th/7th), and 7 of my 11 contest picks are still available! Come on Joe Haeg, Jonathan Williams, Daniel Lasco, Keenan Reynolds, Moritz Boehringer, Devon Cajuste and Kevin Hogan.... Okay, I guess that last one isn't happening now, but it's POSSIBLE!

I am not a fan of the pick or the player. Draft a guy later he sits and learns for 3 years and is possibly ready to start. Don't draft a guy who has no real shot to beat out Garapollo to start week one when there is a 95% chance we sign a veteran to be the number two for the first month.

We will carry 3 quarterbacks this year. If Brissett shows enough this year, then Garappolo will be traded after the season. If Bissett does show enough, Garappolo will start for the 2017 season.

I doubt they'll be signing a vet.

Too much overthinking ...

Every position needs competition ... including QB ... it's as simple as that.

Every year I get so excited and every year I seem to forget I get bummed after.

I was more excited about some of our in-season waiver wire pickups like CB Troy Hill and RB Trey Williams last year, then I was about tonight's 3rd round picks. I actually made a big thread hyping up Trey Williams.

So I'm definitely no pessimist. But oh man, Belichick really needs to deliver on these picks. With Brady's window closing, his o-line falling apart, no running game whatsoever, guys on defense due for big contracts... and especially after whiffing on a 1st with Easley, losing another 1st, and arguably wasting a 2nd last year on Richards --- these are CRUCIAL picks that we need to hit on.

Moritz Boehringer is the guy I want, I don't really have any opinion on any others. RB for me is not a need, we have Gaffney.. believe!. RB is supposedly really strong in next years draft and the draft IMO is showing that guys are willing to draft until day 3.

For a team which knows what to do for the past 15 yrs to become the winningest franchise, I personally dont fuss over who they shouldve picked. No one is perfect but they know what they are doing . But some fans always feel they are screwed because X player was selected even before they know what he can do.

In NE? Would have to disagree there....typo?

I think they all stay on the roster - TB/JG for the full season, Bissett can sit on the PS even if he's active for the first 4 games (6 is the max now) as the backup, so they don't have to keep him on the 53-man. Either way JG is a goner - his quality of play will just dictate what they can get for him, and even then we're probably talking 2nd instead of 3rd, or 2 picks instead of 1.

I don't see them signing a veteran backup, mainly because it would cost real money and that doesn't make sense for a 4-week backup. Why would Hoyer (for example) sign a deal here knowing he's going to get cut in October?
