OT: Chiefs appealing the punishment for tampering

Great. Exactly how far do you think appealing to Goodell would have gotten the Pats?
Farther than giving up did. Beyond that we just don't know.

All the way to the courts
How would it get us to the courts absent the team filing a law suit. Which would be a different matter altogether.

You do that after the appeals. You need the appeals before you go to the courts.

You think the Chiefs will take it to the courts? I'd be willing to bet they don't.

If they have a half decent or team they line the right pockets, and compare this punishment with the punishment for the NYJ's, who were warned in the same league year of their tampering ways, before tampering with a player under contract, on a sb run, with a division rival, on camerax basically quoting the tampering rule text example. Keep in mind said NYJ 2nd offense, resulted in a 100k fine.

I'm not well read on the kc maclin ordeal, but I'm pretty sure it was during the legal tampering period. Of which the dolphins were arguably the worst offenders.

Edit:
All of this occurring in the same league year that the NYJ had their repeated tampering violations. Obviously Roger Dodger wants that to fade from public memory, only to hammer a team for far less. Keep in mind the initial Jets tampering WARNING, came for tampering with Maclin, UNDER CONTRACT, PRIOR TO THE REGULAR SEASON (iirc).

Both NYJ issues seem worse to me. In both instances, the season had not ended, and the team in question was openly courting said player WHILE UNDER CONTRACT TO PLAY A GAME IN THE NEXT MONTH. Chiefs? Tampering period, he was off contract in a day or so. The Briggs issue, there was a trade being negotiated and miscommunication over being able to discuss contracts. The Vikings issue, iirc was an ex chiefs coach saying there were guys he'd want to sign if they were released. Teams in question there, but I don't think he named a specific player.

Presented with the 2 most egregious tampering violations of the last few years? Goody first issues his ex employer, and stepping stone to commish, a warning. The second time in a league year his **** ex employer ****s up hard, 100k fine. Anything based on his own prior punishments docks a 3Rd minimum, swap of 5th.

The sooner the media wakes the **** up and starts undressing this clown, the better.

The Pats should tamper just to set the upper limit to Goodell's punishment scale. Why not? Go full Al Davis at this point

Press: "What steps have you taken to prepare for Geno next week?"

BB: "well...Uh. ..snort...you know, ah, Geno is a dynamic player. He reads the field well, can extend plays with his legs, you know...he can beat you deep. We're just trying to get better and limit some of those big plays..."

Goodell: "BB and the Patriots tampered with a division rival player under contract, in season. Given the extreme and never before seen brash Ness of the actions, the Patriots will forfeit 1st and 2nd round picks this year, and BB is suspended indefinitely."

I don't know what they'll do. You asked how far appealing would have gotten the Patriots. They could have appealed/contested all the way into the court system.

What would the basis of a court appeal be? Is there anything besides a law suit to threaten the league's antitrust exemption? I'm genuinely interested. It isn't like the Brady appeal which was a labor-management issue.

“Did he miscalculate the vitriol that the other owners had and how steadfast they’d remain? Absolutely,” Curran said. “I don’t think that he had any clue how much jealousy or irritation there was with his organization before this began, but I think that he tried to do what he thought was the right thing to do.”

Tom E. Curran on D&C: Robert Kraft ‘very hurt’ by public perception during Deflategate

4) This would isolate Kraft from the other franchises because he would effectively be suing the other owners.

DeflateGate: Eleven Teams, Five Owners, Four Coaches, Two Executives Support Roger Goodell's Penalty

5) If the Patriots circumvent the bylaws, 8.13(B)(1) would allow the other owners on the Executive Committee (the owners he would be suing) to force Kraft to forfeit his franchise if they receive 24 votes.

DeflateGate: Why Robert Kraft Had to Give Up

“You can go to court, but when you sign up to be a part of this league you agree essentially not to sue the league,” Jonathan said. “But even if you did go to court, you go to court you win money damages. It’ll take longer than the time before the draft happens and the money isn’t the issue here, the issue is getting your draft pick back and at some point you have to realize it’s not gonna happen and the best revenge will be putting the best team on the field next year and hopefully having a very successful season.

If Goody wanted to really tweak the NE Fanbase, after he hears out Clark Hunt he decides to give back their picks.

"If Bob only had appealed..." This board would explode.

I don't think there's a member here dumb enough to believe that the picks would have been given back if Kraft appealed. That said, not appealing was a bonehead move.

I'd almost be willing to put money on Goodell going soft on the Cheifs for exactly that reason. We already know he'll never show his scumbag face in Foxboro ever again anyway.

We do? With Mr Myopia in charge, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Goodell up in the owners box for a game or two.

I watched Pulp Fiction a few days ago. It just came to me...

I caught that. Good one rob.

Catch this one;

Roger Goodell is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

Was on the tip of my tongue for 10 minutes but couldn't bring it to words....I googled it then said "DOH!"
