Chandler Jones' trade value?

Yea I'm in the same boat as you, only it would take a 1st rounder for me to even consider it.. or like a 2nd + 3rd.. because if he does leave in FA, he'll get paid enough to warrant a 3rd rounder as compensation..

So I'd rather get 1 more year of service out of a good player at a premium position + a 3rd than trade him away a year early unless someone just made you fall over with an offer... we spent the #19 overall pick on him, so anything less than a 1st rounder I'm not even picking up the phone to entertain, unless they want to throw a solid player in as well

#21 overall but i agree with you

And you seem to conveniently have forgotten what it's been like at times during his run.

In the context of my earlier post, I don't care if it's enough for you. I was simply pointing out that both sides have reasonable arguments. You being on one side or the other is meaningless at that point.
I bow to you sir.

at the end of the day, the value returned is about right

I'm just glad they didn't send jones to the browns or something..........it will be fun for him in AZ

I think the team to watch is Arizona, where there's only a small window left with Palmer and Fitzgerald before they are going to have to rebuild with an entirely new offensive identity. If this depth chart I'm looking at is correct, then they have three OLBs with any NFL experience, and those guys had 4, 2, and 1.5 sacks last season. They need an upgrade there.

That said, I don't think it makes any sense for the Patriots to trade for a one year, $7.3 million rental of Michael Floyd as some people have suggested. I'd rather have a season of Jones plus the comp pick as opposed to the Cardinals' second round pick, so I guess that means the Cards' first round pick (conveniently placed right next to the Pats' nonexistent one) or no trade.
hat tip

The pros and cons of trading Jones have been discussed on here and I think it's pretty clear they should just keep him. Why trade a borderline elite DE when you can keep him on the team for 1 more year in Brady's prime while making another run at a SuperBowl? Keep the team loaded - don't weaken it in exchange for another draft pick or two that a) likely won't have an impact any time soon, and b) might amount to nothing in comparison to the player Jones has become.

They'll get a tradeable 3rd round compensatory pick for Jones once he likely leaves in FA next off-season.
Assuming they don't sign an offsetting FA.

Many are looking only at the pick position and not the year. Although the trade ha already been made, what most are describing in here- in terms of picks -if they held on to Jones was a 3rd in 2018. Now, how does a 2nd this year (2016) measure up? Perhaps the question should be: How much more valuable is a 2nd round pick this year than a 3rd in 2018? Of course, this ignores what ese the NEP can (and did) acquire by making a trade now. :D

Jones' trade value?

3rd and 6th from the Cowboys maybe? He's getting expensive. Maybe time to cash in.
3rd and 6th?
Don't quit your day job. :)

Chandler Jones will never be traded. If he is I will quit posting on patsfans.com forever. That's a fnordcircle promise.

I pointed this out in the other thread. Also, there's the possibility that, if Cooper plays well and then moves on, the Chandler Jones trade may produce a draft pick in 2018, as well as the pick already gotten in 2016.

I understand the spirit of your post, but the equivalency isn't really right. I'd view it as the difference between a) a 2016 late 2nd round pick, 2016 Jon Cooper, a possible 6th or 7th round 2018 comp pick for Cooper (highly variable based on performance and other signings), and $5m extra cap space to use in 2016 on other players, versus b) having 2016 Chandler Jones, and a 3rd round 2018 comp pick.

I think it's probably worth it - they wouldn't make this trade if Scar didn't think he could get though to Cooper. But obviously it could fall flat on their faces too. We'll see.

Edit: didn't see Deus' post.

Honestly guys, I think that I would put Jones' value in trade at probably worth a 2nd rounder from a playoff team plus perhaps a former pick of theirs who might play OL. That would be a good deal, imo.

Assuming they don't sign an offsetting FA.

With Hightower, Butler, Collins due for contracts I don't think they would've been signing any offsetting FAs

Who really knows, though?

They are in excellent cap shape for next year as it currently stands, so the possibility for a free agent pickup is certainly there.

It's also not written in stone just yet that Jones will definitely be signing the 100 million dollar pact that most envision. He could have a down year, an injury, or another substance issue.

$5m extra cap space to use in 2016 on other players, versus b) having 2016 Chandler Jones, and a 3rd round 2018 comp pick.

It's actually about 50 percent higher than you're projecting. Jones was due to count almost 8m against the cap (7.799).

As Miguel always notes, you have to subtract the new slot of the top 51 replacement now, which will be 525,000 dollars. In other words, Jones will free up about 7.3m dollars in cap space.

Edit: I'm assuming that you are factoring Cooper's new cap hit into the equation as well, and that's how you get the 5m dollar number. Please disregard my post.

I was thinking to dallas, although I should have specified that. Seems like a trade they'd make.

So instead of a high 3rd and 6th, it's a very late 2nd and a guy who couldn't beat out ted larsen, whom we cut, I belive.

Way off. Way off.
