Cheerleaders are ruled to be employees

They are pretty much useless in todays game, unless, your are bored and looking for eye candy

They do a TON of community work which helps further build the brand of the teams they represent. They do a lot.

Nfl could have stepped in front of this.
.

Again, it's not an NFL issue. It's a TEAM issue. The NFL does not tell the teams how to handle the people it hires beyond the players and coaches.. And the coaches is limited to making sure they interview minorities and that teams don't prevent upward mobility and that teams don't try and poach other teams HCs..

BTW, neuronet, if you don't want people to throw facts up, then why do you even bother posting? Because, you are going to get facts that blow up your misguided notions on this board. And not just from me.. There are plenty of others..

Stupid ruling in the long run. Smart teams will just get rid of the cheerleaders.

Don't they perform other duties besides looking good at games? Someone will have to perform those duties if the teams dump them. I also wouldn't call that move smart.

Like I said, there's nothing that would have stopped the NFL from stepping in front of this and issuing a recommendation. You can keep repeating yourself, but it won't make you right; it will just make you wrong more times in a row...which I guess doesn't bother you.

Plus, why are you so emotional about this? Just take your meds, quixote.

For people who haven't been following this, here is one article from last year:
Cheerleaders file labor and employment suits against the NFL

He is also suing the NFL, alleging the league is a joint employer and violated antitrust laws by acting in concert with franchises to depress cheerleader wages. Bradshaw claims that cheerleader contracts must be filed with and approved by the NFL.

The NFL has said the decision to have cheerleaders at all is the club’s choice. Six of the league’s 32 teams have no cheering squads. In an emailed statement, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says, “The league has no role in the selection, duties, hours or wages of team cheerleaders.”

Vinick, who is co-counsel on another cheerleader lawsuit against the Jets, doubts the NFL is liable for the actions of its franchises.

“Whether they’re legally obligated is separate from what they should be doing,” she notes. “What they should be doing is making sure all the employees are treated in comportment with whatever the state law is.”

That is my point. The NFL could have stepped in front of it by issuing a memo about this. Goodell loves to issue moral edicts through his silly memos. But of course they didn't because they suck and they hide behind the letter of the law, like lesser minds are wont to do. Instead of doing what was right, taking the high ground, fighting for integrity, they let it play out team by team and say nothing while young women are exploited in their name. They take the sniveling, lawyerly pedantic route, not the moral route.

This starts with the Bills, but if the NFL has any integrity they will now take the opportunity to step in front of this and do the right thing, not take the sniveling legalistic loophole exploiting route suggested by daBruinz....The NFL acts like it is better than that, but this is just showing they are not.

Which makes deflategate laughable when they act like it is about integrity and moral principles. We have all known the NFL front office is pathetic for some time now. Here's your chance Roger.

My first wife was a pom pom girl...yeah, I came home late one night from working overtime and all I could here coming from the bedroom was "pom...pom...pom pom pom..'. I opened the door and found her doing splits on top of Serge' the poolboy...well, sis boom bah, I hit her with a divorce decree the very next morning....

Is your pool heated?

They basically didn't get paid for a lot of labor in service to billion dollar franchises. I'm not sure why anyone would think this is a bad thing.

I wonder the same thing, it seems he is somehow personally connected

Personally, i would like to know what he feels is fair wage for them.

I dont think anyone had an issue this the findings, I could be wrong, but again, its a contracted agreement, the cheerleaders could simply not do it too

For the record, i think they should be paid, and paid well, My definition is a few hundred per game.

There has to be public outrage for Roger Dodger to do something, Pathetic is his middle name. Unless he licks his finger and points to the sky and feels the way the wind is blowing, he wont do jack ****

I don't recall anyone in this thread who's said that the cheerleaders getting paid better wages would be a bad thing. I can't speak for everyone, but my 'concern' is that cheap ass owners like those of the Bengals may just decide that scrap the cheerleaders. NFL sideline pom pom wavers are an anachronism at this point.

The ruling makes sense, but cheerleaders are going to be missing from NFL sidelines in the not-too-distant future whether this ruling came down or not. I'm not the most PC guy in the world, but you can't really get around the sexist nature of cheerleaders. It's just not really all that acceptable nowadays, and with th eNFL more concerned than ever with appearing neutral and drawing in female viewers there's no way NFL cheerleaders have a future. IIRC several teams have already gotten rid of them.

Cheerleaders are accepted at all level of sports. I called them anachronistic at the NFL level because of all the other diversions at the park trending towards special events and electronics, not because a few idiots might cry about sexism.

You're evil. So, sis boom bah, badda bing, you're out?

I'm not sure I consider it a "bad thing" necessarily, I just grow weary of people who agree to do things and then complain about the conditions that they signed up for.

Were they lied to? Were they told they would make X but then were given Y? If that's the case, then yes they should sue. Otherwise they should take responsibility for their own decisions.

Exactly. Corporations should be able extort people who desire a job regardless of labor laws.

Have you ever heard of unpaid internships? As mentioned above, the Patriot musketeers are unpaid volunteers. Do you think they are being extorted? Should they sue for backpay?

I've noticed you have a tendency to try and tell other people how to live their lives, and what sort of lawful agreements they may and may not enter into involving things that don't concern you in the slightest. You really should stop butting into other peoples' business.

Yes, I am telling corporations how to live their lives.

Here's a question I know you won't answer (you have a tendency to ignore my questions which decimate your arguments):

Are the Patriots musketeers being extorted? i.e. should they sue for backpay?

I'm no law expert, but I'm pretty sure the Musketeers don't fall under the law's definition of employees. If they do, they should sue for back pay, but I sincerely doubt they fall under that definition. I look forward to your accusation that I didn't answer your question.
