If Goodhell is such a marketing genius, how could he screw up the Pro Bowl so bad?

I like all star contests more than all star games. I like th 3 point contest, the dunk contest. Maybe the NFL can have drop in bucket contest, one handed catch contest or something else. Full length games where no one wants to tackle is pretty boring. I'd rather watch the lingerie bowl.

I was about to make this point but kept reading and saw it was already made. I feel EXACTLY the same way.

Instead of the Pro Bowl they should stick with skills competitions. Remember the QB skills contests they used to have? Bring those back.

Look at Goodells marketing genius with the Thursday color rush game last night -- Tampa Bay Ketchup vs St Louis Mustard.

Agreed. I don't know how ANYONE (and I mean ANYONE) would think that those uniforms were a good idea.

Lots to work with here
1) I loved All star games 3 decades ago....no matter the sport...... before the air waves were saturated with games. Now, we get to see any star.... no matter the sport or team..... almost every day.
2) I'm not sure players will want to play Pro Bowls in exotic places like Italy or Japan given the push back to playing in London
3) Blaming Goodell for the world's problems never gets old....but given the reality that all All-Star games have lost their appeal.....I'm not ready to point fingers. And since most other sports don't face the injury destruction we see in the NFL by the end of every season, it seems to be a no win situation for the league no matter when the game is played....
4) Although I understand why the NFL slots the Pro Bowl before the SB logistically........it makes no sense to me to promote a watered down exhibition in between the ferociously contested playoff games. Lets not sandwich crap in the middle off the playoffs.
5) I will never watch a Pro Bowl as it is constructed now. But......I might watch three hours of fat bastards competing in stupid contests......belly button orchestra, eating contests, belly slides, greased watermelon water polo. Hell, I'd rather watch dodge ball than the Pro Bowl......Brady might even show up to nail Manning.
If the NFL has to air some kind of product, give me stupid over half effort.

You know what he screwed up? Getting rid of the Pro Bowl Skills competition. That was fun to watch.
I'd have it back and more. More entertainment, less chance to get injured.

Who was the guy that got hurt in the Pro Bowl? And I'm not talking about Robert Edwards that was some other scrimmage

You can only gain in 5 yards or over chunks. get ten yards in 2-3 downs, you get a bonus down to get 5 more for the first
.

Meaningless games suck unless it's the preaseason and we're all hungry for football.

I don't watch the Pro Bowl because now it means either
A) my team won't send any players cause we're in the SB again so I don't care
B) we're sending players because we aren't in the Super Bowl in which case I'm in football hibernation because I'm a ****ing ****y when my team loses.

Gonzalez was questionable with Hurt Feelings after playing for Belichick one year.

Does anyone on Planet Earth think that Goodell is a "genius" in any area of knowledge, expertise or sport?

Have it in a soccer stadium in Chile ... they love to riot over there ... eh ... I mean that would be exciting.

I think Goodell gets the job because he is infantile enough to understand the other petulant child owners in the league when they tattle on each other ... takes a child to know a child.

Pro Bowl? I'd rather watch...

The All Star Game should be like "The Longest Yard:" instead of guards against cons it would be NFL Headquarters against the All Stars. To be fair we would let the Jets play for the NFL HQ team. And yes Goodell, Vincent, Gardi, Blandino, Pash, Kensil HAVE TO PLAY. The Paul, Weiss attorneys would dress up as cheerleaders for the NFL side.

I would definately watch that game.

The preseason still sucks.

Always thought that these affairs appealed to a much younger demographic than I, the group of folks that idolizes fans and have not yet realized that after it is all said and done they are just guys with a lot of talent...

Used to show some interest, but the Robert Weathers debacle kind of put an end to any interest in this media sensation..

Goodell has completely f...ed this thing up out of some vague sense of fairness or other such nonsense, have to let the players and coaches have their say.. everyone is equal, everyone gets a participation trophy.

He isn't a genius. He is a well paid fall guy for the owners. He gets blame and is the lightening rod for, say, domestic violence and Jerry Jones and Arthur Blank get passes because he gets the heat. (If I got the name wrong, Blank is the Ravens owner that brought Rice back and didn't ask about a video.) When the owners start getting real heat from national sources, he gets fired like a coach doing a decent job with crappy players a bad GM trying to save his job fires.

The only AS game that matters is baseball and I really only watch baseball when the red Sox are competitive. At least w the baseball AS game the game on the field resembles the actual game during the season. With the other sports its not even close. No one plays defense in AS games...

No all star game "matters." They are exhibitions.
