OT: Schefter - Denver Trades for Vernon Davis

Haven't they been all-in for the last 4 years?

Yup and they have had a good run. Last year they where a dissapointment in the playoffs. I know they got destroyed in the superbowl but they faced a great seahawks defense

Vontae Davis is the only logical move now.

Haven't we talked about trading for enough ****ty CBs, without introducing another one into the conversation?

Elway loves "marquis" names.
Buffalo loves "marquis" names.
Yawn.
Vernon Davis have been a non factor for three years and did nothing to raise Kapperstink's level of play......yet he will now raise Flutterball Mannings?

Davis had more than 50 catches in 2013. In Denver, he's going to be the 3rd or 4th option, and he's going because Green has been a major disappointment. You'd have to be crazy not to realize that this should be a significant upgrade for the Broncos.

It's a solid move, but about half of that "scary" formation actually scares me at all.

You don't think man coverage on Thomas and Sanders, with Daniels and Davis up the seams, and Hillman in the backfield, isn't scary?

I love what Butler brings, but he had his hands full with Brandon Marshall. Demaryius Thomas is a step above Marshall, and Coleman looked like a lost man against Decker. Sanders has another level of speed that the rookie will have to deal with. Add a decent 2TE set and a competent RB and Manning is able to keep the slack off his noodle arm.

If Bill doesn't look for a legit #1 CB, it might be a long day in Denver. Not to say we don't have prominent offensive weapons ourselves, we do, but we certainly don't have a defensive secondary as lockdown as the Broncos have.

49ers fans seem thrilled. They've wanted him gone for a while now.

IIRC Butler was on Decker solo and Ryan/Coleman tag teamed Marshall. They started giving Malcolm a little more help w/ Decker and he did also did a better job on him.

Receivers are only as effective as the guy who gets them the ball. Manning has half the AFC pro-bowl receivers team as his x and z and has managed to make them look wildly pedestrian. Let Horseface Killah invest more into that offense. It'll only make it even sweeter when Bill retires 18.

He's two years younger than Jason Written and Heath Miller, and 3 years younger than Ben Watson, who's having the best year of his career.

I think he's still got enough left in the tank, though he he might be a little groggy after sleepwalking through the last season and a half.

Nope.

1) The Broncos almost never throw seam routes anymore.
2) Thomas and Sanders cause problems for everyone.
3) Vernon Davis should be pretty good in that offense, but am I worried about losing a game because of Vernon Davis? No.
4) Daniels and Hillman are absolute JAGs, and I'm not really sure why I should be afraid of them.

Also, the Broncos have no one who can cover Gronkowski. Or Lewis. Or Chandler in the red zone. Nobody. Talib and Harris are good players, but I'm not as concerned, since the Patriots aren't going to be running go routes and 30-yard outs all night like the Packers did.

You could call it that.
It resembles something that could technically be considered blocking.

(In other words, no. But that's not what they got him for)

The Broncos now have two pass catching TEs that the Patriots will have to find a way to defend, and they still have a top 5 type WR (Thomas) and a cat quick WR (Sanders). In all likelihood, they just improved at almost no cost.

Shouldn't the Broncos be in major cap trouble already? It seems like they are always making the big free agent signings/trades over the past few years.

Ya all of a sudden after Green Bay in usual fashion **** the bed on the road in a big stage and the addition of Davis people think that Denver know has become this offensive and defensive juggernaut. People need to go back and look at all those games before Manning got to rest his arm for 2 weeks.

I mean Cleveland took them to OT 2 weeks ago and were a dumb Josh McCown decision to hold the ball and take them out of FG range away from losing.

Also seems like people still won't buy into the Pats front 7 and safety play. The Front 7 has 3 less sacks then Denver's vaunted defense, it's a legit front 7 and the safeties are playing very good.

I don't disagree (although you have a higher opinion of Owen Daniels than I do).

It was a good trade for Denver. They're going to win a lot of games.
