If Belichick were to leave and I really really really really hope he doesn't, I would want his replacement to be either Crennel or Weis. Crennel has a good chance of being out of a job next year if the Browns don't show significant improvement.

Going along with the thought of the thread...what if...good lord NOT Cowher, yeesh.

Weiss would be the guy I would want the most. He is a genius, very close to TB, funny as hell, and most important -- has been an excellent coach at every level.

I read his book not too long ago and he really is one of the good guys in the game and in life.

My source within the Patriots organization tells me that Kraft and Belichick have been working on grooming his successor since the 2001 Super Bowl.

I'm not at liberty to share details, but let's just say his name is "Vince" and he'll be ready to take over the team just as soon as they address some minor glitches in cloning technology.

1st post...Hi gang
IMO Belichick's and Cowher's coaching styles are too radically different for any transition to be smooth for the players. When Belichick leaves, gasp, and if the Pats aren't prepared to promote from within, my first choice would be Weis. I also feel that either Fox or Fisher could do well here.

Welcome Frezo. Although I like your 3 choices for the next HC, I kinda hope we hang on to the one we have.

Fisher's career seems to almost be mirroring Cowher's. He's got a good young QB and team that could surprise this year. He's been to the dance and several playoffs and now he's rebuilding. I don't see him leaving the Titans anytime soon.

Fox could wind up being available if he can't put some offense together, but would we want him? I doubt it. He'd make a solid DC, that's it.

Weis has done alright at ND, but he's 0-2 in Bowl games. Let's see if he can keep them competitive now that Ty Willingham's recruits are completely gone.

Our next coach will be Urban Meyer. Mark my words.

So now Denny Green's son is an authority on something?

Well, Big **** Green's son told me Denny Green's son doesn't know what he's talking about -:) I you read BB's book, the guy has wanted to be a football coach all his life. It's his life. He just about can do anything he wants with the Patriots and the fans love the guy. Why would he leave?
What would he do?

No kidding... I wish we didn't have to go through this almost monthly. I wonder if they thought to ask the son something he might have some insight into like wtf his daddy might land next and how long it will take him to get canned there.

I get the distinct impression that this is BB's last stop in the NFL. He's all about legacy, and he won't leave here until he's written one hell of a final chapter on his in NE. I think when he retires from NE he will write and possibly look for an intriguing HC position at the college level. He loves to teach, just like both his parents did. I could easily see him coaching at Annapolis if the opportunity arose AFTER he was finished here.

I don't see him coaching in NY or anywhere else in the NFL because he doesn't need the rebuilding crap nor does he relish the media attention - and his ego isn't like Parcells - wanting to prove it was all about the HC. If he could he'd work in total obscurity. To him the only thing that matters is that he and his staff and ownership and the players know just what they've accomplished - he could give a rats ass what the talking heads or the general public perceive him or his legacy as.

Can't really see BB retiring any time soon, but if he does, I would hope that we get someone like Cowher as his replacement. Cowher loves a good defense which was evident by his time in Pittsburgh.

Yup...I forgot about Meyer and how that connection has been developing for a few years. As for Weis, we'll see if Crennel gets the same results with Quinn or if it was Weis' coaching that gave him the modicum of success at ND. I still like Fox. He may be defensive oriented and make a great DC, but the same was said about Belichick when he came out of Cleveland and to a lesser extent NY. The thing is there really isn't a direct replacement for Belichick. That's a darned tough act to follow.

Bill Cowher is a blunderhead. He lucked out and won 1 Super Bowl because the Pats screwed up.

He is an awful coach.

Awful.

I would be more concerned if this came from someone else beside Denny Green Son....

I have it from an excellent authority with direct contact with the team that Bob Kraft & Bill Parcells had a secret reconciliation, and that when BB announces his retirement after this season, Parcells will come back to the team. Due to Pioli being his son-in-law and Parcells wanting to be in a situation close to his family and grandchildren, this move is imminent. It will remain a secret until after the season.

In addition, Kraft has purchased part ownership in Stop & Shop in order to turn Parcells & Pioli loose on all the groceries they want. There is no truth to the rumor, however, that Drew Bledsoe will be named QB coach.

It's a looong offseason . . .

Sheeesh . . .

I don't want CHIN as a coach of this team

He was one of the reasons I hate Pittsburgh

I agree....secondly, he is an apple compared to the orange that is Bill Belichick.....he is merely a zit on BB's a##........His team was involved in the "sorriest" stuper bowl of all time which was engrossed in controversy....not the way I would want to be remembered........No Chin for us!!!! BB Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS....I really do feel sorry for the coach that takes over after the BB tenure does eventually end,......Gargantuan shoes to fill!!! GO BB AND GO PATS!

The only option that would satisfy me would be Weis ... with Romeo returning as DC.

I would rather have Pete Carroll come back than Bill Cowher, as repugnant a coach as I have ever seen. For all his vileness and spit, he could not even control his ultra franchise player, who went out and almost killed himself -- probably messed up his leg permanently -- on a 200 mph 'busa. A few cards short of a full deck.

Ah-h-h... I don't think so. I think the Tuna has really packed it in this time. He looked real slowed down and tired last year. He's retired more times than Barry Bonds has denied using steroids, but sadly I don't think he's coming back. Wish he would, but I think he's lost the fire.

Romeo's not HC material. Outstanding DC, but not a head coach.
