that Belichick could retire after this year and Bill Cowher is his possible replacement.

I hope that Belichick will stay forever (yeah right)... but if he does retire, or go to another team; Cowher is a pretty good backup plan.

I'd be ok with Cowher as HC of the NE Patriots. I think I'd take him over Charlie Weis as well or maybe call it a toss up.

I really hope that Belichick stays as long as Joe Paterno does in one place.

I wonder if the Rooney's were getting bored of the same situation...

Here we go again...

Stupid speculation.

What is he basing this off of?

I don't want CHIN as a coach of this team

He was one of the reasons I hate Pittsburgh

Hey my cousin said his friends girlfriend know a guy who used to play for BC and that hes friends with a guy who went to Navy and that that guy said Belichick is actually a horse! I can't believe it, but if some guy who has no evidence said it it must be true!

Can we please stop posting these "will Belichick retire this year?" threads? There is zero evidence that he will so until we find out otherwise we should consider it a non issue.

I think if Belichick loses a Super Bowl this year, I think he stays at least one more year. I think he would want to break Chuck Knoll's record of most Super Bowl wins by a head coach. If we don't win, I think there would be a stronger possibilty that he would retire depending on the situation.

With that said, I don't think Belichick will retire after this season. There were clear signs that Cowher was looking to retire other than media speculation the year before he did. I don't know why Belichick would invest so much into next year's draft to retire after this one though.

Why does any coach do that..? It's part of the reality of the NFL... word is Cowher wasn't terribly happy with the way he was being treated in Pittsburgh. I would be amazed if he isn't roaming the sidelines in some NFL city soon. In the meantime, he's going to be the #1 guy in any new coach rumor... I've even heard that Jerry Jones' master plan is to have Wade Phillips for 2007 as a post-Parcells "buffer" before making a play for Cowher in 2008.

Easy neighbor...where do you live/where are you from in the Keystone state?
I do not want the Pats to have Cowher coach them to 1 Championship every 15years...my heart could not take it.
But I like Cowher's character, fire, and overall track record as a coach. No one expects BB's successor to match his success...but I don't want our team falling to the rest of the pack, either.

Am I the only one who sees the obvious question here???

Why the hell is the man who knows what the bears truly are even on tv?!

Wait a minute... who's Denny Green's son?

If Denny Green, Jr wants to crown The Chin . . . then crown his ass.

There are a few reasons as lead me to believe that this might not be true:

1) If there is anybody in the media who has a pulse on Belichick, it Reiss. Every time this topic has been brought up to Reiss i.e chats, Belichick's end of year sit down with Reiss, Reiss seems to think that Belichick is not leaving anytime soon.

2) If there is one person who does now Belichick's mindset it is Pioli. If he has any idea that Belichick is leaving after this year, then why did he not at least talk to the Giants about the GM position. If this was his dream job and Belichick and Pioli are as close as they seem, I would think that he would at least explore his opportunities.

1st post...Hi gang
IMO Belichick's and Cowher's coaching styles are too radically different for any transition to be smooth for the players. When Belichick leaves, gasp, and if the Pats aren't prepared to promote from within, my first choice would be Weis. I also feel that either Fox or Fisher could do well here.
