I saw others picked up on this in another thread.

He actually goes into details about what the Steelers do and the kinds of coverages they played...which he almost never does in a post game presser.

Maybe it's coincidence...but it also seemed there was a purpose to this...like Bill is subtly "scouting" them for the rest of their opponents...if you know what I mean....

Maybe Im overthinking it but could this be Bill's "revenge" on the league instead of "running up scores"? It will be interesting to hear if he does this again after future games...

If that's the case and if the coaches are smart, he'll be making the competition better for everyone.

BB & Brady in FU mode. This could be a glorious season.

Even if Bill was spilling the beans on the steelers, the majority of the teams are too dumb or arrogant to do it. Let's consider this, the Patriots routinely beat other teams and it's out there for all the other teams to see (even pre-Gronk). But do the other teams do what the Pats do? No.

Case in point, the colts run D is soft. Do the other teams pound them by adding a 6th OL-man? Nope.

To me THIS is the kind of "cheating" for a lack of a better word that absolutely would be Bills M.O. There is nothing in the rulebook against such a thing...even if it's "not fair" :D

I hope I'm right! LOL

He's being really open about it now and purposeful but haven't many of us felt for years that once a quality BB team plays an opponent, that opponent's flaws were exposed for other high quality coordinators to exploit if they have the right player matchups? Many touted "Juggernaughts" were never the same that season after playing the Patriots.

Its a good discussion. Seeing that we hardly ever hear BB get that granular after a win he really went deep in the the scouting/game planning part of the game.

I'm not sure @sb1 what his motivation was. I'd like to think it was an FU to Tomlin and people think that they win by luck and cheating alone and that they actually do their homework. He was subtlely defending his program, his coaches and his team from the BS.

Like you, I have no doubt that he had a motive. There was a national TV presence in that room. He doesn't just go up there and yammer on about nickle and dime defenses without a purpose.

Most teams simply can't do what the Patriots can do. It's not necessarily because they're too dumb or arrogant. It's usually because they're incapable, for any number of reasons.

To me, it so obviously has to do with all the nonsense surrounding how the team wins. I don't expect this every post game, but BB really seems ticked off by the communications accusations and all the other nonsense. He feels his team was just better prepared and executed better, though not perfect. He saw what we saw - a team that was not ready to face the defending champs. And instead of taking it on the chin, Tomlin chose to pile on the cheating rhetoric. I think we caught BB in an aggravated moment. He sends a message without being blatant. Robweathers and I discussed it in another thread.

Adding a 6th lineman doesn't seem very complicated to me though.

If all it took was adding a 6th lineman, every team would do it.

Does anyone remember how Peyton would give Eli advice and inside information on how to beat the Patriots? And basically the media insinuated that coaches from other teams were also trying to give the Giants an extra edge as well?

I wonder what would happen had the Patriots done something like that.

That isn't much different than one team talking to another team about an upcoming opponent. Kind of like Rex Ryan conferring with Rob Ryan where the Bills' upcoming opponent just played the Saints.

I DO like the idea of BB getting back at teams and the NFL this way. You want to disrespect the Pats and demean their accomplishments, them BB is going to embarrass you in public, subtly, by pointing out your flaws and how he was able to exploit your weaknesses.

It doesn't take cheating if you suck and are poorly prepared.

It's not a coincidence that the Denver Broncos begin trending down every season after they face the Patriots.

I suppose it's nothing that the other team won't see in film themselves but it does seem like Belichick was drawing attention to a few things in particular that were challenging...

If the NFL wants him to talk - he'll break another "unwritten rule" and help weaken an AFC playoff contender in the process

Speaking of which, when is SOMEONE going to give Belichick a list of the unwritten rules so he can stop cheating and start following them?

I sure hope Coach Belichick is giving info away on all these other teams. I'm so sick of all the "we can't beat them, so they must be cheating crap". I'm all for the scorched earth policy. Give 31 other teams a REAL reason to hate us. Totally embrace the hate.

A lot of teams have a totally different coaching philosophy, it seems to me, where by far their main focus is to, every week, work on what they do best, perfect it as much as possible, and only marginally tinker their preferred schemes based upon opponent.

Very few teams even try the total game plan adjustments that we do on a regular basis- run 35 times one week, pass 50 times the next, 3-4 or 4-3, 2 gap or 1, etc.

It obviously takes versatile players, smart players, amazing coaches, and buy-in from people who might be stars one week and an afterthought the next, all because of the game plan.

It's fascinating to watch, for sure.

Belichick reminds me of what Bum Phillips said about Bear Bryant "He can take his'ns and beat your'ns, then he can turn around and take your'ns and beat his'ns"

I think Belichick is tired of dumb questions ... So he's throwing some bones hoping to educate some in the media which may lead to better FOOTBALL (the game on field) questions - which is better for all.

Other coaches can see what the Steelers were doing and how the Patriots attacked it. All they have to do is look at the tape. There's no secret FU in him talking about basic strategies that were employed. I think he's simply finding a way to keep the conversation about football and answering a football question in detail, rather than moving onto the host of stupid topics that were cued-up to be asked once he stopped talking about football.
