Is Peyton toast?

He'll continue to put up big numbers unless it's cold, windy or January.

No feeling in fingers on right hand but could still hold pen to sign contract for $20 million per year. Go figure.

He's done.

For the first time since Peyton arrived in Denver, the Broncos actually have a challenging schedule of teams that will be able to follow Belichick's blue print for shutting him down.

Keep in mind Denver has usually had a relatively gravy schedule AND lost to the 3 or so good teams they played every year.

They might beat the Ravens only because week #1 games are always pick-ems, but Baltimore will be worlds better than Denver by January.

After they they get the Chiefs x2, Raiders x2, and San Diego x2.

Greenbay.
@ Browns defense.
@Colts who stomped them last year with their sorry ass defense.
Pats
@Steelers.
@Cinci.

I won't be surprised if Denver is bounced out of the playoffs in the wildcard round, having failed to win their division

peyton will add another L to his record playoff losses/one and dones.:)

Honestly, even if Manning doesn't do well this year, it wouldn't do much to change how the media sees him. Unlike Brady, who's been endlessly ridiculed and branded a cheater, Peyton has always been the darling child of the NFL. And so people will continue to overlook the repeated failings that have long been evident to us Pats fans.

And I agree with those who say Peyton is past his prime. The only thing that's keeping him in the game is his sense of pride. Perhaps in his mind, he still feels he has something to prove.

Gotta' disagree. Media is great at telling people what they want to hear, so it can do things like get the haters all riled up, but fan bases don't respect Peyton as a threatening presence in the NFL.

You can go to any forum on the internet not a Indy or Bronco one and read plenty about Peyton that's basically identical to what you would read here.

I get the overdose of Manning here in Denver. I don't think he looks comfortable in the new offense, while it looks similar it isn't and Manning is having trouble with it, even local news talks about it. Lots of folks think Oswiler looks better, it was preseason so I'm not sure it matters much. His timing and accuracy is definitely off but again it is the preseason. The O line is going to determine his success, granted Mathis hasn't played and will help, FYI saw him at dinner the other night, Mathis is a big dude, not a big fat dude. Anyway Manning went down 3 or four times in game three and I suspect we will see more of that, particularly if Sanders is hobbled.

Then again folks wrote off Brady early last year and look what happened. Manning at 70% is better than most QB's.

I hated to see him come back after his neck surgery. He should have retired.

I am not a fan of Peyton but I do not hate him either.
The human (er feline) in me was a little scared about his neck surgery.

That's not why. He loses in the playoffs all the time. It's because he's coming off of an injury, says he can't feel his fingertips anymore, needs rest every now and then because of old age, and is losing arm strength every year.

Considering that he threw for almost 80 touchdowns in a season and a half period (2013 and first half of 2014), I'm not sure what this would have to do with the fact that he ended last season on a downward spiral?

He's been complaining of numbness in his fingertips and been taking practice days off since his injury in 2011, so that's nothing new. He's a statuesque QB who hardly moves, relies on short passes, and uses his cerebral skills and experience reading defenses/making adjustments to his advantage. It's not like anyone's asking him to be Jameis Winston out there.

While I'd agree that his skills are certainly declining, I think his starting point of the decline was high enough that it's not out of the question to think that he can still have another productive season or two left in the tank. My definition of "productive" would be 30+ touchdowns and double digit victories. In other words, yes--I'd be perfectly fine having Manning as my starting QB, and I think most HCs and GMs would agree. He's not in the top 5 anymore, but that also doesn't mean that he suddenly sucks either.

A degraded Manning is still better than most of the active QBs. Good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to go anywhere.

I think you hit it right on the head. Pretty much the same as it ever was in terms of the postseason, with some of his arm strength issues coming to light more on downfield throws.

As long as our team is taking care of business, Manning and the Broncos should simply be yet another 10-6 (give or take a game) team who is waiting in the wings for us to screw up. Definitely not as much of a concern as in the past, but certainly not a team to necessarily look past either.

Scary thing is other than Mr. Favre, age 38 is usually the top end for a QB being effective. Here's hoping #12 is an exception.
Brady has dedicated his life (outside of family) to play football as long as he can. You've seen his diet/workout schedule? It's insane and takes a mentally committed person to maintain it.

i believe the workouts are making his muscles more elastic? and better able to recover from use and is planned into his 40's. The dude is serious and I wouldn't vote against him. I bet he is the exception.

He's still alive?

When he farts his maids must have to dust the room.

Remember when TV was free and all you had to do was plug it in to an outlet and you had 13 (besides U1 and 12 for some strange reason)?

In the late 70's early 80's they used to feed us NYGiants games and if you REALLY wanted to hear a Patriot game you could try to point the bunny ears aimed at south (NH guy) to hear the game.

The overwhelming majority on this board has absolutely no idea what life as a Patriot fan was like before 1994 when Kraft bought this team.

Thae Bruins were king and WSBK-38 had most Red Sox games. (Dana Kersey-The Movie Loft could interupt anytime.)

The Bird era made the Celtics a nightly fixture, Bruins were king and the Sox were hit and miss. Growing up in Portsmouth, NH there was little coverage of Patriots and that's if you bought the Globe and saw the Box scores. I got most of my statistical information by buying cards in packs from grocery stores.

Many here have no idea how bleak the prospects were of the Patriots becoming such a successful franchise in an area where the only great football happened in'76 and '86. Flutie was a dot on the radar.

Until Bob Kraft bought this team it was the unflushed **** of the New England sports scene. That's the truth.

I honestly feel that Manning won't be able to scheme his way around his physical shortcomings this year.

I don't think he has recovered sufficiently to even suffer a mid-late season disintegration - I think he will be greatly compromised this year (Denver is trying to hide this behind the 'new run based offense' narrative but they wouldn't need one if Manning was even 80% of what he was last year) and will start off badly and get worse.

I think even a midseason retirement is not out of the question.

This isn't even factoring any extra hits he might take this year behind a largely re-worked offensive line whose priority is going to be running the ball.

If the Colts D can crush you , you are in big trouble.

Hard to judge Peyton. I compared a preseason game from last year to this year and he has the same noodly throws and lob passes. What is different is the lack of protection from the OL but again it's preseason and Mathis wasn't playing. Their defense looks good up front.

I would guess they'll make the playoffs and possibly get to the championship game but I think they will rely more on their defense than their offense.
