Final round of roster cuts for Patriots

Your binkie Ross!!!!!! He definitely deserves it, hope he can help us during the year!!!!
I just hope he keeps showing well as a punt returner so they're forced to keep him active on game day. Though with how few WRs they have right now, that may not be an issue lol

Just remember that the Patriots are know for making a plethora of roster changes between "Final" cut downs and the 1st game of the season.

The Patriots have 6 Safeties, 4 TEs, and 12 DL (7DE/5DT).

The Patriots are LIGHT at WR (4) and CB (4).

Keeping 4 TE? Gronk, Chandler, Hooman and Williams?

Agreed, biggest head scratcher of the day for me is Branch sticking. I thought cutting him and saving a couple million against the cap was a no-brainer, but clearly Belichick disagreed.

I expected him to be cut because of his salary, as you say, and also because of my "No KnuckleHead" theory that at this stage of his career BB is largely trying build a team of smart, professional guys he loves to coach, and Branch was one of two knuckleheads left (along with the suspended Blount). I guess I may have to put my treasured theory of the shelf for a bit.

As a optimistic homer, maybe the bad luck with Tyms, Gibson, Wayne will turn out alright in the end. They were JAGs for the most part.

Dobson and Harper have talent, hopefully they step up when called upon. It would be great to have them develop and could be relied upon in 2016+.

Jeff Howe‏@jeffphowe
Of the four players the Patriots traded for recently, only Mike Williams made the team. Cleveland, Groy and Saunders were cut.

Net cost: 2017 7th, Matt Wells, Jordan Devey.

That's fine. I prefer Williams,Saunders and Cleveland over Wells and Devey assuming Saunders and Cleveland make it to the PS.

Kind of an odd offense with no proven outside threat and no battering ram for short yardage.

Blount is the battering ram for short yardage.. Especially if they run him behind Shaq Mason.

As for an outside threat, I think you mean DEEP threat.. Edelman has lined up as much outside as he did inside..

Dobson is an outside threat and is proven capable when healthy.

Bummed for Swanson, happy for Wilson. Cadet is for all intents and purposes, a receiver on this roster.

Dion Lewis just tweeted "On to Pittsburgh" then 5 seconds later deleted it once he realized. I'd say he's on the team

In every way, this is someone who's bought in to the BB philosophy. Not only the On to Pittsburgh quote, but then deleting it immediately. Well played Dion.

He's going to be the starting RB. I suspect he'll see more plays and touches than Blount does this season. All a matter of staying healthy.

That would be excellent. The kid is small but he can sure run. He reminds me of Ray Rice to a degree.

Yes I meant deep threat. I actually expect Edelman to play X more than Dobson at the beginning if only because he blocks, but we'll see. I don't see Blount as a battering ram. He dances at the LOS more often than he hits the hole hard. We'll see when the starting OL is in there.

Teams had to have been at 53 by 4pm today, but this doesn't mean cuts won't continue. Can cut players from now and prior to Sept 8th to avoid roster bonus and season pay, and all teams must be under salary cap by Sept. 10th.

So, a lot of shuffling left to be done. We'll see more cuts after teams fill out their PS, starting tomorrow at noon, expect BB to make more cuts after this in order to try and sneak good players to our PS (e.g., Rufus Johnson).

Very likely 1,2 or more players on the team right now who are just placeholders.

Can Lewis handle that many carries? Not sure we really have a sterotypical starting RB since it changes so much game to game. Like when Vereen became the primary back in the SB. Curious to see what Cadet can do. But I am very excited about Lewis. Like what we have in our running backs but wish Gray could have made it but I'm not devastated about it. But, if the line plays like the cardboard cut out front like they did in the preseason unless we have Barry Sanders back there it won't matter who we line up.

Is Cadet a bad runner or has he just not been given many carries? I liked what I heard about him from Saints fans. Sounds like he's similar to Vereen.

I was actually going to say that he reminded me of Edelman, actually. That is who I thought of when I saw him in games..

That is usually the case. I would not be surprised to see a bigger WR brought in. Other positions?

He earned it. Disciplined route running, good hands. Nothing fancy, just solid play. Hope he keeps it going.

Bravery in concentrating on the catch when about to be hit, athleticism and body control in adjusting for the ball.

Very happy for him -- but also very happy for the team. I think he could be a good player.

James Jones is out there. As is Hakeem Nicks..
I mentioned a few possibilities in the NFL Cuts thread..

Speaking of running backs, and I know we have pretty good success with cast offs but why can Shanny/Kubiak turn any old scrub into a star? Wonder why others are unable to copy that running scheme. Hell Tatum Bell returned for a game ran for like 6 yards a carry and everyone knew it was only because of Shanny's scheme and didn't bother to pick him up. CJ Anderson is going to have a HUGE year with Kubiak if Peyton lets him run the ball. 2000 yd potential. Guy is already a decent back and in that scheme he'll explode.
