Patriots allow Brandon Browner to explore value around the NFL

I can see Browner refusing to take a pay cut. But why should it be either pay cut or be cut? Why not take a restructure that leaves his compensation unchanged but moves cap hits around?

Unless, of course, he wants to push NE into releasing him so he can get more on the open market.

Not sure why they let him test his value. Wouldn't be surprised if he had offers for twice what he's getting paid.

Browner's contract is more than reasonable. I have no idea what the Pats are doing here. Maybe they wanted to extend him and his asking price was too high, so they let him gauge the market for himself. No with no cap hit, I'm guessing they could pick up his option and then trade him. But I can't see cutting him, especially when he is a good player and does not have a bloated contract.

I dont think he gets released and really for 4.8 thats a good deal, i think this is more about giving Browner the opportunity to see what he is worth, maybe he thinks he should be getting paid more or wants to push for a release, who knows, but it doesnt make sense to release him. I like Danny A but I would release him first.

Where has there been even the first report that the Patriots have asked Browner to take a pay cut?

What if the Jets signed both Browner and Revis.
Or Buff would suck so much

There are some days that I wish brady would restructure his contract for 1 million so the team can load up lol. He doesn't need the extra money, but he deserves every penny he gets and much more.

Reiss should leave the X's and O's to somebody else. That's just stupid.

Maybe he is leaving it to someone else and reporting on what they are telling him. Also, I think the theory is a lot less stupid than most of the stuff that has been posted here- basically that aliens have inhabited the bodies of Belichick and Kraft and they've decided to make senseless decisions.

If true, why are the Pats asking Browner for a pay cut? Makes no sense. How much are they paying Cannon?

The guy is on a good and reasonable contract, played a crucial role in our SB run, and they want him to take a pay cut?

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind this, but in Bill We Trust.

Never happened. That's all speculation by people.

For some reason BB like Arrington a lot, I dont think he is bad but when the moved Browner over during the SB things got different quick. I dont like the idea of losing Browner, maybe he wants more money and he is pushing the Pats to release him. I think there are other places to save 4.8 than here.

And as I have said in other threads, this defense was not "lights Out" they were good and not great IMO. The SB was won because the offense was great and healthy. IMO. Dont want to see Browner gone but one of Browner or Revis has to stay.

Nobody has reported anything that the Patriots are doing besides letting Browner find out his market value. Anything other than that is pure speculation.

I will be more upset if Browner leaves than if Revis does. Browner is a good value and brings a swagger with him. Revis is great but he is also extremely expensive and on a team that has many good corners waiting in the wings. I'd rather they use his crazy money to sign a real pass rusher and dominate on the line. We have a good backfield with or without Revis
Really? Really? Darelle Revis, really?

If true, it doesn't surprise me. Why should he take a pay cut? His contract is perfectly reasonable. If any CB on this team needs to take a pay cut, it's Arrington. His contract is atrocious.

Arrington had tight coverage on Matthews in the SB. He was just too short to win those jump balls. Not surprising that Browner would be able to handle that coverage well. It's the beauty of the backfield they had; they could match up with all types of receivers.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but Reiss was on ESPN and said we could've let Browner test FA because if we don't sign Revis, then we're not gonna play as much press man, which is what Browner does.

So that doesn't sound very good to me.

This line of reasoning makes no sense when you consider that Browner was signed before Revis and after Talib had left. Why'd the acquire him in the first place if his value was dependent on having a true #1?

Rodney is a special player, but Cox wasn't when he came here. So swagger guys do not have to be elite guys. In fact, Cox barely saw the field.

Yeah but the question was where did the swagger come from...It came from Harrison. Swagger is not natural nor easy to duplicate. You don't have to be a dominant player...to be able to impose it on the team..i.e. Cox. Not easy to find.

Doubtness is starting to creep in. I would feel ok about losing some players on the secondary if our d line could create pressure consistently.

He signed two days after Revis.
