Free Agency and Amendola/Revis Predictions

There's going to be some tough decisions to be made. For example, I'd love Brandon Browner to stay but he's due about 5.5 mil next year and can be cut before the league year at, I believe, no cost. I'm hoping he stays, but in addition to Revis and McCourty , that's a lot invested in the secondary.
I expect them to restructure Browner and convert some of his money to a signing bonus.

Revis and mccourty signed long term. Mayo restructures. Wilfork traded. Amendola takes a payback to be with his lover edelman

Some of my thoughts:

1. Nobody is trading for Vince Wilfork, the draft is very deep at DT and he is old with a huge cap hit. Wilfork is going to be interesting, last season I said to keep him, this year though I am not sure where I stand yet.

2. Nobody is trading anything higher than a 5th round draft pick for Jerod Mayo; he has played 10 games in the last 2 seasons and carries a huge cap hit. Belichick loves Mayo, probably his favorite player in the past 5 years outside of Brady so I cannot see him cutting ties with him, Mayo is also dedicated to the team and winning, he will do what needs to be done.

3. Amendola was very good during the postseason, I am not sure he will be back, he might want to be a featured WR and with Edelman here that is not going to happen, so why would he take less money to play here in a role that he likely feels he is too good of a player for?

4. Browner has a big cap hit and really was not anything special this season, he will not be here for $5.5M they will either rework the deal or he will be gone.

5. Revis is not going anywhere, they will pay the $20M before they let him walk and then franchise him again in 2016 so it is essentially control of Revis for 2 seasons. Not to mention they take a $5M cap hit even if they cut him, Revis is not going anywhere I am almost certain of that.

6. I think Ayers will be back, I think he is a long-term replacement for Ninkovich and security if they cannot come to terms with Chandler Jones on an extension.

7. Casillas will be back also, he is a good role player and can be retained for short money.

8. I am not sold on Vereen returning, they drafted James White for a reason and most likely, they viewed him as that 3rd down back. Vereen was a ghost when Woodhead was around so do not be surprised to see White take over. They also have Bolden who is serviceable as a 3rd down RB.

4. Browner has a big cap hit and really was not anything special this season
You mean besides be the starting CB on a championship defense?

Priority #1 for me is get a new long snapper. Didn't want to post it until the season concluded to avoid the jinx, but I swear if we don't get someone else Danny is going to cost us a game eventually.

Browner's cap hit is not $5.5m. It will be $4.8m.
Dennard's 2015 salary will be equal to the low RFA tender which is currently projected to be $1.5744 million.

In order to trade Wilfork he has to be on the Patriots at the start of free agency. He is due a 4 million roster bonus the same day.

Most of Mayo's 2015 salary is guaranteed for injury.

Mayo traded for a 2nd or a 3rd + 4th
Dennard traded for a 6th/7th
Amendola takes small paycut
Wilfork released

Revis resigned
McCourty resigned
Vereen resigned
Connolly resigned (near vet. min)
Branch resigned (near vet. min)

Casillas walks
Ayers walks
Ridley walks

Dennard for a 6th or 7th? When healthy he's the second best corner on the team imo

Let's see. One poster believes that our #1 priority should be a new long snapper.

Another believes the Dennard is better than Browner.

I think that I'll wait a few days before discussing next year's priorities. Obviously, Miguel's blogs and posts analyzing each player can provide a good starting point for analysis. His blog on decisions that need to be made early (before the season starts) is especially useful.

Great so that is the answer to every personnel decision, he was on a championship roster. That is simplistic as hell and lacks any thought, Alfonzo Dennard and Logan Ryan also started games at RCB this season so we should pay them $5.5M next season too?

I like your posts generally, this was not up to your normal standards, no offense, I am not trying to be a ****, but Browner has the 22nd highest cap hit of any CB in 2015 and I do not think that he provides enough to merit that big of a hit especially when we are trying to create space to keep the best CB in the NFL. I would love to have Browner back but that cap figure is not going to work if you want to keep Revis and McCourty.

The salary cap savings by cutting Kyle Arrington are miniscule ($865,000). Kyle Arrington remains on the New England Patriots roster for the 2015-16 NFL Season.

The New England Patriots need to restructure the Darrelle Revis contract. Extend 3 years, $42 million for a salary cap hit of $14 million per season. Salary cap savings for the 2015-16 NFL Season equates to $6 million (takes into account the $5 million prorated signing bonus amortization).

Couple of quibbles...well, one: they won't franchise Revis if they keep him for $20 million this year. His cap hit the following year would be $24 million (120% of this year's salary, I believe) in new money.

it will cost $30 million to tag Revis in 2016
