2-3 days ago, they were 2-3 days from being done.
Precisely, that statement right there tells you they're on a witch hunt, not an investigation. The balls used "during the game did not meet specifications"http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/23/nfl-issues-statement-on-deflategate-investigation/
This statement is wrong. They were properly inflated.
Interesting...
IMHONothing new here. NFL trying to buy publicity.
So it is a good or bad sign that nothing has happened yet? Good sign that they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find evidence of wrongdoing and try to show they did their homework. OR bad sign that they are trying to assemble an overwhelming, tightlock case against the Pats with LOTS of evidence, or some smoking gun.
This is the key statement of the release..and surprised no one is running with this. "specifically".."deliberate action"...Pats balls slightly below the limit before the game, refs miss it..no deliberate action by the Pats found. Case closedThe goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action.
Once again, the statement does not say that the balls were actually measured before the start of the game.
NFL said:Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game.
Could easily be interpreted the other way around. They can't find anything but it is such a firestorm that they need to "thoroughly" investigate so they decide to drag it out to look like they did a good job.IDK, I take this statement as "we know the Pats cheated, but we can't prove it and we won't stop until we do.... But we haven't made any conclusions yet and keeping an open mind even though we know they are guilty."
Overall, it was a piss poor statement. We are almost a week in and this is all they have to say.
