Here is a good read on Amendola staying ready, which is why I read it to start with, but there is something else here that is eye opening.
It looks like the Colts are going to come in run first.

"The Colts offense still relies mostly on the arm of Andrew Luck, but Indy's running game looks much different from when Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson were taking the bulk of the carries. Dan "Boom" Herron didn't touch the ball against the Patriots in November, but he's become the team's top back since Bradshaw hit injured reserve. Richardson was a healthy scratch over the weekend of the Broncos, a telltale sign of how he's viewed by the team that dealt for him in exchange for a first-round pick last season. "

They rested Richardson while they played the Broncos, according to this writer. I can't say, as I payed no attention to who Denver used to run and I didn't get to watch the whole game. That being the case, it says a couple of things to me, One, as the writer notes, is that they treasure Richardson and saved him for industrial strength duty against the Pats, and two, they were confident of beating Denver going in. Perhaps they knew more about Manning's health than we did.

Regardless, look for them to try to establish the run early and often. Now very obviously I am thinking of nothing that Bill isn't prepping the Pats for, but it will give us more insight when we watch this contest. This may be a much tougher game for New England than I expected.

Has any other player in league history been a first round bust for two teams?

Richardson wasn't rested to play against us he was benched.

"Resting" shouldn't be part of any thought process for a post season game. This is one loss and your season is done territory. And specific to Indy, they were playing in one of the most difficult venues to win, against a team many thought to be one of the best.
If Pagano believes he can hold out a player that is otherwise a healthy and tangibly valuable resource simply to rest him up, in order to win the playoff game they may or may not play the following Sunday?? He is destined to be a HCing failure.
The playoff formula is pretty simple: all players that can provide the most production need to be active, period. And if those players can win the game that's being played this Sunday, right after that game you can start figuring out how to win next Sunday.

As others have mentioned, Trent Richardson was benched for a special teams rookie.

I highly doubt any team would "rest" a player they deemed necessary for the next game, when the game you have to win first is in Mile High stadium against the #2 seed Broncos. That just doesn't make any sense.

The truth is that Boom Herron is their top RB now, and has been for several games.

I took that comment to mean he's not considered valuable at all. He's been pretty terrible, I don't think they're saving him for anything.
Yeah, Richardson is beyond awful.

When he finally gets cut, I want us to sign him and then he magically plays like a true first rounder should. That would be hilarious.

Every time Trent Richardson touches the ball I think the Colts chances of winning decrease by 5 percentage points :D

Richardson ran 6 times for a grand total of 0 yards in our first game this year. If well rested, he could run for 1 or 2 yards this time if we're not careful.

Indy rested Trent Richardson in the same way we rested Josh Boyce

T-Rich must be one of the most athletic blind persons in the US.

Brilliant move by Indy, but they can't outfox Belichick, he's been resting James White just for this moment. They didn't want to waste him on a regular season game or just a divisional playoff game, now is when they turn that beast loose.

Belichick had hoped to get by for one more week and save him for Arizona but has to break him out with Indy turning Richardson loose.

Nobody rests a player they 'treasure' with the season on the line, wtf is this ****

I have a sneaking suspicion that Richardson is going to get further rest this weekend so he'll be uber-ready for the super bowl. Those Colts are always thinking ahead.
