NCAA National Championship Semis Gameday Thread

College football is WEIRD. I had a blast though, since the most random **** happens that you'd never see in the NFL. Winston's fumble was getting close to Butt Fumble quality, then you see plays like OSU punt the ball all of 20 yards from their own 5 yard line, only to have Alabama immediately throw an interception. Classic!

That pick was so awful it was morbidly hilarious. Bad decision, bad throw, godawful situational awareness. One of my favorite college scenarios is when you have these incredible WRs on a team with a QB who basically sucks, or at least isn't half as good as he's thought to be.

Look at Zack Mettenberger last year. Everyone assumed he must be pretty good, but in hindsight its hard to look bad when you're handing off to Jeremy Hill and throwing to Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. The fact that he didn't look like the best QB in the country surrounded by those guys is kinda damning when you think about it.

Similarly, I wonder how bad a QB can be and still look good most of the time just because he's throwing to Amari Cooper. Pretty bad, if tonight was any indication. As much as we **** on bad NFL QBs, it's rare to see a genuinely bad QB last too long in the pros. Watching college gives you a whole new appreciation for bad quarterbacking.

@AndyJohnson

Ducks, tOSU in the champ game.

(try not to take this the wrong way)

I think making it a 6 team playoff would make this incredibly more interesting. I feel like TCU got cheated

Maybe have 1 & 2 have byes while 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 play wild cards.

Minus the second half of the Oregon/FSU game, the games yesterday were amazing. College Football finally got it right, but I think they should go to an 8 team playoff. I mean there's 3 weeks after Thanksgiving that are available.

I don't get how people say college football > NFL

All these running QBs are a joke

Agree with the running QB's being a joke, but CFB, especially in Bowl (now playoff) season is legit.

If anything, I wish the Super Bowl had more of a Sugar/Rose bowl feel to it. The SB is way to corporate.

Ok Devin Smith needs to be a Patriot

Runs a 4.35, 6 foot 1, perfect at catching the deep ball.

Could we get him in the 5th round?

I know he fumbled, but Ezekiel Elliott is a monster. To run like that vs an elite Bama D is something.

And I'm calling it now, OSU is beating Oregon. Oregon is to gimmicky. OSU D will punch them in the mouth.

I don't think this is fair to the writers at all. They should get to watch the final and then vote for the team they like the most as the real champion. Bill Pollian tried to get the NFL to adopt this format, it's a shame he failed, Peyton would have 14 rings had it gone through..... GOAT.

The SB is way to corporate.

This just isn't true at all.

If it were really corporate the winners would get 7$ an hour for their efforts and the losers would be on the streets.

However the winners of the 7-11 Bowl would still be proud to host the Koch Brothers Trophy

Not a bad track record:

Christ how many uniforms does Oregon have?

They should have tried the Jets hide-in-the-grass play. Their green matched the field better.

I bet Oregon makes some serious income from selling those shirts.

And now their sphincters are quite puckered.

An example of what you're talking about can be seen just past the 4:40 mark of this outstanding Robin Williams video.

Both results were what I ultimately wanted from the both games. I loved watching Winston show his true colors and start cursing out Fischer on the sidelines. I also grew a lot more respect for Fischer from watching him tell Winston that if he didn't calm the **** down, his ass was going to the bench. Jameis Winston is a scum lord and a punk and I absolutely cannot wait to watch him fail miserably at the pro level. This self entitled doucher has bust written all over him.

As for the OSU/Alabama game, I actually wasn't surprised that OSU had the success they did. For one, Meyer is a good coach too. For another, this was the weakest Alabama defense that Saban has fielded since he's been there. His M.O. is similar to Belichick's: stop the run and stop the big play. Alabama could do the former until the dam ultimately broke but the latter has been an issue for them all season and the Buckeyes exploited it. Also, OSU was insanely deep at the QB position. Jones looked just as good and just as ready as Barrett and Braxton before him. That squad and the success they had against the Tide also drives home the point that Meyer quit on Florida.

Ultimately, this is shaping up to be an entertaining, pinball machine-type National Title game. I have Oregon winning by pulling away late. But Ohio State definitely belongs.

That one handed attempt almost topped ODB

It's too bad that Gronk had to make one of the best catches ever just before Beckham topped it. Most people outside of NE have forgotten about Gronk's catch. I wonder what effect the gloves (the modern version of stickem) had on both of those catches.

Gronks catch over the middle was far superior to Odell Beckham's catch. Gronk went over the middle and just reacted and caught the ball. Odell Beckham just adjusted his body, arm to help match the velocity while catching the ball instead of keeping it at a static position and having it bounce off his hand. I don't understand all the hype about that catch.

Both were outstanding catches, but Beckham's catch is one of the best catches I've ever seen. Deeper route, more velocity on the throw, tougher angle, and he caught it with three fingers.

I won't disagree it was a great catch. He definitely understands physics and how to adjust his body so he'll definitely be a great receiver in the NFL.

Oregon vs FSU - those two fumbles by Cook sunk them. I thought they were starting to take over. Mariota is a nice QB, but it's tough to judge what he would do in the pro's because their talent level is superior to others and they play a spread offense. Winston looks like he has potential, he's strong and big, but a bit dumb. He's a young guy and would be better served with another year of being a starting QB in college.

OSU vs Alabama - Still don't understand why they threw the ball on 1st and 10 with under 2 min to go. Alabama's QB was terrible and the main reason OSU won.
