Re: Schefter says:pats interested in Bengals Tory James

Tory James is JUNK on a Jose Offerman level. Okay, that's too strong, but he's certainly not some preventative measure in case Gay leaves.

NO!!!
It was an ex-Colt corner who we cut in camp. Probably 2005, coulda been 2004. Never made the team.

Crap. I totally know the scrub you are talking about. I distincly remember in that year's madden he was a starting CB and was cut in camp. **** who was that turd .......

James made the Pro Bowl in 2004, folks.

Re: Who is Tory James ?

Training camp fodder ala Eric Warfield - maybe with a little more upside.

Tory James is better right now than Eric Warfield ever was.

He'll be 34, but hasn't missed a game since 2004. James has started 64 straight games for the Bengals.

This guy is pretty mediocre. Gets beat sooo often and takes tons of chances so he gets some INTs. F you Asante.

he doesnt take chances to get picks. hes mostly in the right place at right time

From Scouts, Inc.:

Grade: 74 ("Good Starter")

"Good size, long arms and quality athletic skills...durable and competitive...solid technician in pass coverage...good instincts and zone awareness...more natural in press coverage than from an off position...active hands and the arm length to get into receivers and reroute...solid foot quickness and balance and decent transition skills...fluid on underneath routes...fast enough to turn and stay in phase with vertical routes...can play with his back to the quarterback...good downfield ball skills and leaping ability...matches up better against size than quickness, but isn't very physical...doesn't overpower receivers in press coverage...has an upright pedal and allows a lot of separation off inside cuts...drag-down tackler who is inconsistent in run support...goes low on ball carriers and rarely faces up and inserts..."

As far as NFL corners go, this guy is old as dirt. You can count on one hand the players with more seniority than him. Aaron Glenn, Ty Law... I think I'm done.

Again, the last time he missed a game was in 2002.

It would be naive to look up Tory James and, especially if you haven't heard much about him, try to draw conclusions based on his age or why he's still on the market.

If you think Tory James is replacing Asante Samuel, you can rule out any chance of the Pats playing in the SB XLII

Driving me crazy to. The name that pops in my head is Macklin, but obviously its not him. This guy was like a 10 year vet.

Sounds like a Free Safety conversion to me.

James on radar

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reported tonight that the Patriots have had talks with free-agent cornerback Tory James.

James's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed those talks.

"The Patriots are obviously a terrific organization and we've had conversations," Bartelstein said. "There are a number of teams that we've talked to, and we hope to get something done this week."

Jones, who turns 34 next month, has played the last four seasons with the Bengals. Of his 11 seasons in the NFL, James has played all 16 games of a season in nine of those years.

He has 39 career interceptions, with 21 coming over the last four seasons.

O.T.I.S. was old as dirt and played for us. What folks are missing is how BB thinks THIS player will fit in HIS defense, not how he'd do in some other D. Note that the guy is durable and ask youself, "Self, just how durable have Patriots DBs been lately?"
