I think there's an implicit "assuming Ebner's out for a while" in those predictions.
So a Rutgers recruit.Christopher Price @cpriceNFL 3m3 minutes ago
This is the least surprising thing I have seen all day--Greg Schiano has known Jonathan Casillas since the LB was 18. http://www.bucsnation.com/2013/6/20/4448984/greg-schiano-recruited-jonathan-casillas-in-college…

So I'm thinking, Pats trade for a conditional 6th/7th rounder. Ebner to IR.
This is good. Veteran on a one-year deal who has won a Super Bowl who provides depth as a pass covering linebacker. I was hoping for a big thumper to bolster the run defense, but this is fine. He and Ayers provide the veteran depth that was not there at the beginning of the season. They can help out in spot duty against the Bronc-hosers and then have the bye two-week period to do some catch up.
I'm glad that they got something done and didn't make the team older or add another contract that would be a drag on 2015. as some were projecting.
Beat the Broncos!
Low risk, possible reward...
A JAG that is gimpy. Hope it's nothing more than a 7th-pick, or less...
"...Casillas, who has been with the New Orleans Saints (2009-2012) and Buccaneers (2013-2014), has played in 55 career regular-season games (15 starts). The 27-year-old has been slowed by a hamstring injury this season, playing in five games. "
Patriots acquired OLB Jonathan Casillas from the Bucs in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
The Pats are also getting a sixth-rounder. Casillas technically started the first three games of the season, but managed just 109 snaps, and hadn't played a down since for one of the worst teams in the league. A veteran with 55 career appearances to his name, Casillas adds depth to the Pats' wounded linebacker corps, but should be limited to special teams and sub-package duties. Oct 28 - 3:59 PM
