I noticed on Miguel's site that they save $42 m by cutting Tom Brady next year.
42 million dollars? Say, what?

BTW has it occurred to no one else that this move probably indicates Mallet is done here?
We are probably carrying
TE 3 WR 6 (counting Slater) OL 9 RB/FB 5. That is 23. Only room for 2 QBs unless we carry another guy on O or make a surprise cut to either WR or RB (I doubt we only go Ridley Vereen White Develin).
How does gaining one player (Wright) and losing one player (Mankins) have anything to do with whether or not we'd keep Ryan Mallett, or change the scenario from yesterday?
You may be right that they cut Mallett, but I can't understand the logic behind it.
This is why no one has mentioned it. Cause on the surface you wouldn't initally look at it.
However before we got Wright there was a very real possibility we would carry only 2 TEs. Now with Wright we are almost certain to carry 3.
Now when you take Mankins out of the OL (which was probably going to be 9) the difference here is you don't now carry 8. You still carry 9 but just move someone else up the depth chart. So maybe now a guy like Devey, Wendell or Stork makes it on to the roster when he might have been cut or put on IR previously.

@Trags Met Tim Wright earlier tonight at the airport. Not sure I've ever seen someone so excited to be traded. #Patriots
I really hope we are not discussing Brady being cut or traded because we traded a guard who less than 5 years ago held out half a season because he cared more about money than the teams success to Tom Brady a 3 time SB winning QB who embodies everything team first about the Patriots way? It's very likely I'm misreading Miguels web site - I'm not great with this cap stuff but that's $42 m under the heading "2015 Cap Savings if Cut or Traded before June 2,"

Knowing how BB values roster spot versatility, I wonder if the addition of Wright now opens up the possibility that one of the OL skilled players (Kline or Maneri) who we saw line up as blocking TE this pre-season, is kept on the 53 in lieu of Hooman?

That would be silly.
Hooman has been hurt a bit but i hear he will be ready to go week 1 and BB really like how versitle Hooman is and how good of a blocker he is. That is something we probably want to keep. If i had to pick a guy to be cut though to be a surprise. Right now i'd guess Lafell. But i don't see that either.
I am with you Sup, I am very fond of Manx, and he is as bright a posters as we have on this board so I agree with it being more tongue and cheek. I was just making a broad statement, people overrate how entrenched in the Patriots way Logan Mankins was, he was a great player for a number of years but he was not like Brady, Wilfork, Faulk, etc. he did his job.I'm guessing that manxman was making the comment in a tongue in cheek sort of way, judging by his pictures that he included with his post.
That said, I can't figure out how we'd save 42 million dollars by cutting Tom Brady, but that's why I'm not in charge of these things...because I'm not smart enough. I was under the assumption that the rest of Brady's money becomes fully guaranteed if he's on the roster the last week of this year, or something to that effect.
Wow, can't say I'm excited about this. I guess I'll just have to say "In Bill We Trust" and see how this develops.

In his 4-year career LaFell has been a more productive player than any receiver on our team that includes Edelman entering his 6th season and Amendola entering his 7th season. If LaFell was cut I would be shocked, plus he is inexpensive, Amendola would get the ax if it were a numbers game because he would free the most cap space in 2015. That said none of Edelman, Amendola, LaFell, Dobson, or Thompkins are going to be cut. Wright is here to fill the void left by Hernandez as the move-TE our depth at WR has nothing to do with that.I think Develin can replace Hooman's reps.
With Wright now on board, I could see LaFell possibly falling victim to the numbers game. But only if Dobson is healthy.
