49ers' Aldon Smith charged with three felony weapons counts

I still find it hard to believe the 49ers had Smith play a game before going to rehab. "Aldon's health is important and we want him to get the help he needs...right after we play the Colts."

Well, he still had value to the business. Now, with all this publicity, not so much.

Therefor, it's seeya latuh fellah!

Seeya Latuh Fellah...hey, isn't that Osama Bin Laden's latest alias???

Re: Re: 49ers' Aldon Smith charged with three felony weapons counts

What were the assault weapons?

Read my mind... shotguns are assault weapons now? Or high capacity pistols? Or is he a moron with true h/c rifles?

Either way, I think there is a lot we don't know if SF distanced themselves before anything went public. The real question is how well do AS's lawyers cover up whatever other ***** storm is looming.

I won't be surprised if he is back playing for them in a month. If he gets convicted he will likely end up like Burress and go to jail for a year or so but he'll be back in the game after that, unless he finds a way to compound his problems even more. if he's smart about it (uh huh) smart about it, he will plead it out, get it done, and try to get back to the league as fast as he can, the longer he drags it out the longer his odds of ever having a successful career get.

*I am not suggesting he isn't a moron, he clearly is, but these guys get away with this crap all the time, and even though he is going to see jail time he is still really young and really talented and i don't see why it won't be like all those who came before him.

"The weapons include an Armalite AR10-T .308 caliber rifle, a Bushmaster ACR rifle chambered for 5.56mm NATO and a Bushmaster Carbon-15 .223 caliber rifle."

FWIW, none of those are "Assault Rifles". What they are are "scary black rifles". Assault weapons have selective fire switches which allow you to fire either short bursts or full automatic as well as single shots.

The media as usual blows things out of proportion.

This Smith guy does sound like a village idiot though.

Booze, guns and a party...great combo right there yo! Nothing can possibly go wrong with that!

This is a football fan site...but to shed a little light on the subject...those ARE semis BUT ..using Google one can easily find hundreds of links that either lead to directions or offer directions for a price as far as making each weapon full auto.

I'd imagine if somebody would go to the lengths of procuring weapons like these, then making them full auto would seem to be a reasonable next step. They are weapons that exist to kill PEOPLE. Anyone willing to kill people is certainly not going to have a conscience about the ramifications of semi-auto versus full auto.

I'm not sure what lengths you think are necessary, here, but it's not as if they've got to be smuggled in by Vietnamese smugglers.

I'm not going to get into the argument of what the gun laws should be, since that is a political question unrelated to football.

The only thing that matters here is that California, whether you agree with them or not, does not allow California residents to possess any of the listed weapons.

You can buy an AR-15 at Wal-mart in my state and there are youtube videos on how to make it full auto. I'm on some NSA list now, aren't I?

Apparently, we're all on some NSA list. :(

You can legally own an AR15 or AR10 rifle in California. It has to be configured properly...primarily a "fixed" medium capacity magazine that needs a tool to remove it. This modification kit costs $20.00 and can be installed in 10 minutes. Magazine capacity is 10 rounds and they can be changed out using a screwdriver, allen wrench, or even the tip of a bullet. Also, the stock needs to be fixed., not adjustable. Weapons in this class owned before the 2000 "weapons ban" are exempt.

Numbnuts may lose millions and do some jail time do to the lack of a $20.00 modification....if that is indeed the case.

Not everyone that owns an AR15 has a burning desire to go full auto. Quite simply, they are cheap and fun to shoot...kinda like a big 22.

You’re making some tremendous assumptions there.

I own a BUNCH of these guns and 1) I’ve never killed anyone, and 2) I haven’t made a single one full-auto. That’s true for every single gun-owner I know.

For my own safety, I'd like anyone who owns a fully automatic AR-15 to be one someone's list. There is no reason to have one except to intimidate or kill. Its over kill for protection, its immoral as a hunting gun.

The NRA likes to use the "slippery slope" argument all the time when fighting even the most reasonable gun control laws. I would opine that we've gone down the "slippery slope" in the other direction over the last few decades. We live in a country where "weapons of mass murder" are as readily available to ANYONE who wants them for any purpose, either legally or illegally.

Yet the NRA and their ilk fight ANY attempt at regaining some sort of logic back into gun control. Laws that would allow law abiding sane people to own guns, while protecting the rest of us from people who not have the ability to kill, but to kill on a massive scale.

Thank goodness none of you are insane.

To be fair there's plenty of logic in the stance that harassing non-criminal gun owners isn't the proper way to control gun violence. I also think you'd probably be more correct replacing the word safety with comfort.

I don't own, nor do I wish to own any guns. I also believe the aggressive defensive stance the NRA and more gun enthusiasts take does more harm than good for their cause. However creating another "war on _____" is most likely very far from being a real solution to the problem.
