Welker not re-signing is not the issue; everything else is…

Eddleman is more of a filler receiver until one of the baby receivers come unto their own.

The broncos don't have rookies catching passes. look at how awful demaryius thomas look as a rookie
Demaryius Thomas, WR for the Denver Broncos at NFL.com

That's my point - the Broncos don't gamble by going with all rookies, a guy who's good but is an injury risk (who suffers from same right out of the gate), a guy who sometimes looks great but sometimes looks like a jag and wouldn't be more than a No. 3 wide receiver on any other team, and a great TE that might not be ready for 4-6 weeks. I get that Hernandez was a surprise, but they've known about that surprise since before training camp started and did nothing to correct it, except go with another rookie who's now hurt too. Sigh.

The problem is the lack of talent Brady is throwing to. We could have healthy TEs, but they're not going to be the matchup problems Hernandez and Gronk were. I think we've been spoiled by how crazy good those two guys were and how much of a problem they were to defenses.

Also, Edelman and Amendola combined are putting up numbers, but Welker impacted the game more than those guys.

The slot receiver has been the only productive and consistent position on the offense; Edelman and Amendola have combined for 30 receptions, 261 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in 2 games. All those who have referred to the team letting Welker walk as this huge screw up; the reality is that the slot position is just fine. The issue is the 1 reception for 5 yards out of the tight end position, and are rookie wide receivers catching just 9 of 33 targets so far this season. I do not believe Welker changes any of that, so if there is a gripe it has more to do with not addressing the tight end position, or the draft selections.

If you completely ignore 2 things:

1.) Welker is the best slot WR in the game

2.) Having Welker would mean that the Edelman/Amendola duo would be able to slide outside and put one of the WRs on the bench

you can come to the conclusion you did. Since those two items matter, though, you don't really have a point here.

I think Aaron Hernandez royally screwed this offense and this team more than not signing Welker did.....

Thomkins and dobson are talented and crazy good.

The jets secondary getting torched by them proves it....and then they dropped it or brady overthrew them.

The jets had more difficulty guarding them than they did gronk, hernandez, and welker....sans the sanchez fumble.

Crazy good? let's not carried away.

they are talented. but to be a good WR, it takes more than a talent.

Neither Thompkins nor Dobson is "crazy good". They both suck right now. Hopefully they'll get better, but your claim is just ludicrous at the moment. Go take a listen to Zolak's breakdown of the WR play.

Yup, that's the truth. I'm not sure where anyone would get "crazy good" out of that performance. The best you can say is perhaps there is some raw potential, but nothing more.

My point is the jets defense were having difficulty covering thompkins and mainly dobson.

Cromartie (who's a very good corner) looked terrible against them.

The patriots looked more explosive than they have in years, but it's not a finished product yet.

How are they crazy good and talented? You could argue that they're athletic. But that doesn't mean you can be a good receiver in the NFL.

The Jets secondary is not good. Cromartie was covering Thomkins all night so that's why Brady was staying away from him and going to Dobson for the most part. And whoever was trying to cover Dobson was awful.

Like I said, go listen to Zolak's breakdown. If I say the exact same things he did, people here will insist I'm just being mean to the Patriots. Your point does not hold up. I'll leave it at that.

And how do you get that Cromartie looked horrible?

That would be #9 pick Dee Milliner. At least until he got benched.

That guy was awful. From what I recall, he was a good zone corner in Alabama. He's not gonna be cut out for the bump and run man to man coverage the Jets want to do in their secondary.

That's too bad

That gif would be more appropriate in a post about Cromartie.... ;)

Am i the only one okay with the rookie receivers struggling right now?

the last 3 superbowl champions were mediocre during the regular season before getting hot at the right time
2012 ravens 10-6
2011 giants 10-6
2010 packers 10-6

Get all the flaws out now and grow.

Re: Welker not resigning is not the issue, everything else is…

I think the issue with this offense is that everything could have gone wrong HAS gone wrong, outside of a Brady injury.

Amendola (the 3rd best slot receiver in the game when healthy IMO) has been sidelined, and Gronk (the best TE in the game) has been sidelined as well. Both of these guys play with a lot of passion, but injuries tend to limit them.

The potential substitute to Gronk(Ballard) basically proved to hobbled too contribute, forcing us to rely on the unproven Sudfield along with a ton of substandard TE's.. Other
wr candidates like Jones were done in by outside circumstances. And finally, Hernandez's stupidity has basically reduced us to an O reliant on rookies to not screw up. I'm sure they'll eventually get better, but I expect at least 2 more ugly games. Not bringing back Welker was a big mistake if you ask me, but it's not the biggest reason why the O is struggling so much.

I can't be the only one that realizes the potential match up problem gronk, thompkins, and dobson can be ?

gronk will take a lot of pressure off the baby receivers.

You're the one insanely posting that Dobson and Thompkins are "crazy good", when they suck right now.

I honestly question how big a difference having even the likes of Tebow in the backfield would make considering how out of sorts the receiving core is. Brady is the engine of the finely honed machine that has been the offense the past 6 years, but right now the machine is more chevette than corvette. Hopefully these are just growing pains.

The major failure is we had & have enough cap room to resign Welker, make a play for A Boldin or bit the lip and go for G. Jennings..

Any article I read, A. Hernandez was on thin ice before this season started.. If that is true, they should have made plans with life without him..

That's the major failure.. BB - Coach, #1.. BB the GM.. Average
