Winning with this current receiver corp is not sustainable

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

Thompkins was absolute garbage. I normally don't notice these many things but MAN did his mistakes ever stick out to me.

- throw comes his way. stumbles. lucky it didn't become INT
- catches ball. but only gets 1 foot in bounds. 2 was very possible.
- runs route out of bounds and makes the catch
- drops late TD catch

Edelman and Amendola played outstanding. Can't win with 2 slot WRs though. Hopefully Amendola is fine. His injuries bother me though.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

Edelman isn't a slot receiver and isn't particularly short. He's about the same size as Brandon Lloyd. He's proven perfectly capable of playing both outside and inside. It's funny how people are blinded by a receiver's skin color in evaluating his skillset.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

Disagree. Many are new and are getting their feet wet. Absent fumbles by Brady and Ridley, neither of whom are receivers, and this is a completely different game.

Gronk, amendola and edleman along with vereen is pretty good. If Dobson and thompkins get the gitters out and understand how Tom operates will be huge. But we have to expect bumps in the road. But if your truly great you fight adversity like Tom did. If the pass D can stay this decent, we will have help.

Remember David Givens in his first season? Then his second season he really came on? Then we saw him making big plays in the playoff and SB?

It might take time for these guys...

I wouldn't be too hard on Thompkins.

The errors he made today are very correctable. Drag your feet on sideline catches, never come to a full stop in man-coverage, and use your arms to fight off grabbing. He was held a lot today by McKelvin.

The most important thing I saw today from him is that he was in the right places at the right time (except for one occasion in the hurry up when he was on the wrong side of the formation) and he ran all the right routes. That is something that is not really teachable. Ocho never got it, and neither did the other receivers that never flourished here.

I'd like to see how they look with Dobson out there before I make any definitive statements but today was ugly outside of Amendola and Edleman.

Do you guys see us picking up a WR this week?

It's amazing Brady was able to win a game with two short slot receivers as his only legit targets.

*one short slot receiver. can anyone prove edelman and amendola aren't the same person?

The rookies looked like rookies. There's obviously a ton of promise in this group but it's probably best to temper expectations.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

The Amendola and Edelmen smurfs stepped up big time and as usual T-G-F-B (Thank God for Brady). That was an Aunt Esther ugly win.

Agreed, I just don't understand why TB is given these rookies and less-than-star players. Is there any other elite QB in this league that is expected to win with nobody to throw to? Why is getting this guy one elite receiver too much to ask?

Whilst I do agree with what you've put forward, we cannot suppose it was a different game because the turnovers occurred. The Patriots were sloppy and were lucky to win today.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

It was unfortunate to see the rookie playing, well, like a rookie. Robert Woods was a player a lot of us coveted for the second round. I think you can see why.
.

You mean Woods's one catch on a completely blown coverage by the defense? Yup, that was really impressive.

People need to calm down about Thompkins. He's a rookie in his first NFL game. There were a few plays where he looked lost. There were also a few plays that Brady threw bad passes to him (but people feel like overlooking that). He'll get better and more comfortable with Brady as the season goes on.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

Thompkins is going to draw the top CB on each defense. I guess they aren't bringing back Lloyd, Branch, Jenkins, or anyone else from the past. What the heck are they going to do if Amendola, Edelman, and Gronk are injured for long periods of time?

would feel much better with lloyd back as at very least insurance. edelman and amendola both going down isn't unrealistic. hopefully they stay healthy becauae they are beastly.

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

Rookies need time. It's one thing to analyze the game. It's another to write them off after game 1.

We just can't expect to win games with rookie WR's and DA and Jules..............
....oh wait, we just did.

Let's see what happens when they get some experience and Gronk returns.

A. Boldin – 10 receptions, 143 yards, 1 touchdown so far today with 9:34 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

That is a player we should have been willing to give up a 6th rounder for.

sure lets just overlook that fact that he was pretty much given to them from one Harbaugh to another.

Because all his old receivers got old and we have failed for years to develop rookie WRs?

Re: Winning with this current receiver core is not sustainable

I expect improvement from the young guys. And I have high hopes that Boyce will be a good contributor this season.

TB is too good not to find receivers for him. Don't worry. The corps will improve.

Ok I'll bite.....why? Was it that one catch he had today that put him in the hall of fame for you?

KT did have four catches today, was held and interfered with at least twice, could/should he have done better today, sure....and I have no doubt he will.

Agreed that Brady did not look very sharp today and that's being overlooked by fans complaining about the receivers. An average quarterback would be shouldering substantially more blame for the sloppiness in the passing game today (to say nothing of the fumble at the goal line). Luckily, we can be pretty confident that this Brady guy will be fine.
