Miserable Night For Tim Tebow Against Buccaneers

He would have had one more yard passing if he had lined up under the guard instead of under center.

0.0 passer rating!

This has to be a new record, not just for the NFL, but for planet Earth.

Not a new record at all. There's been 89 games since 1980 where a QB attempting at least 5 passes ended up with a QB rating of 0.0. The number drops to 67 if you raise the number of attempts to 7.

You might be surprised at some of the names that made the list.

(and no, this isn't a "defend Tebow" post, as he was horrible. Just setting the record straight.)

well...for all you lovers of pain...the replay is on NFLN right now...still first half though...so plenty of time to get nice and lubed up for the Chosin Death March 2nd half....

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!
"Charge for the guns!" he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Our first line D is actually pretty friggin' rough now that I watch this again...it's the LB's...man, they really bring it...

Re: Tebow must be cut after preseason

My question is why did they bring him in at all if they intend to cut him? By playing to his tendencies, he is burning reps that could have been given to other players and better work other offensive components. Tebow may have hit on 65%+ of his college passes, but he is 50%- on pro passes. The Pats have been a team heavily reliant on short to intermediate routes that require laser precision. Inaccurate passing in those areas typically leads to interceptions. Unless Tebow fundamentally changed his play, which would seem highly unlikely if not impossible, he does not fit the Pats offense as a QB, so preseason simply proves what game film already shows - he can run, but he cannot throw an accurate pass. The Pats did not need to add him to the roster to prove that proposition.

Tebow is very athletic, and could probably be a viable player in a number of other positions. While his preseason work is sufficiently bad to merit something worse than simply being cut from the team, I believe he may stay with the Pats for some other purpose, whether fullback, tight end, or otherwise. No way do I see him joining the Pats as a charity project or to see if he can one day become a legitimate QB rather than a gimmick.

I can give you some speculations on that bolded question.

Brady and Mallet cannot simulate read option plays that are getting more and more common in the NFL. There are some real competitive teams that run these types of plays, such as Seahawks, 49ers and Redskins. My #1 guess is that Tebow was brough in to do just that. Also, as a bonus they might have thought that if he excels, he might have some trade value or that he might be able to fight for a "project" spot on the roster.

I think his preseason game minutes indicate that the previous option is extremely legitimate, although there is no increase in trade value by showing off what Tebow is doing right now.

The second guess is that McD wanted Tebow since he feels like some of his early career legacy is riding on whether Tebow will be a NFL caliber QB. This option is something that concerns me, because that might mean they keep him despite his miserable performances.

However it goes, I think when McD was brought back here and they discussed his role in this organisation, BB promised McD that he would call the shots on some aspects. That is why I fear option #2, since if McD really wants to prove the world that Tebow will be good one day, then Tebow will likely survive the cut. I don't think BB will overrule McD on this.

So here's to hoping there are no personal motivations to keep Tebow. :eat2:

I can't believe what I have been reading on this forum the last capable of days. I had a problem with my password and I got that sorted out. Anyways I'm kinds glad I haven't commented here in a while. All I saw was personal childish laced attacks directed at follow posters.

Some people seem obsessed with Tebow, while some seem to give him a pass while he continues to suck. Here is where I stand I'm in the middle and by that I mean I'm can criticize tebow fairly whether he plays good or bad while still rooting for him . I watch a little bit of college football and I become a tebow fan of somewhat rooting for the gators. Anyways I was a Patriots fan then so I'm not a tebowite. Lol. Anyways back to my main point. Tebow will Make the team and here is why.

1 .He is a long term project and is here to play Quarterback so people relax with the tebow should cut thread every day. Tebow was also brought to be used as read option quarterback or whatever that means. Watching last nights game gave me a few glues on how tebow would benefit this team.

Tebow obviously can't throw a lick of football to Save his life, but boy can be run. I envision bill using him as a wildcat qb. I'm not a geek when it comes to this football analogies but I'm reading up on it a bit more since people on this forum use it alot. Anyways, for those worried that installing the wildcat for tebow will lead to less snaps for Brady or taking him off the field, is false. Tebow can line up as a TE with the Intention of Brady picthing him the ball. Tebow can run with the ball. Let no one take that away from him. He just wasn't used right at all with the jets. That whole front office sucked.

2. Releasing tebow will make bill look bad. I know bill likes too put on a tough act and sometimes he really doesn't care what people care about him, but that doesn't mean that he still doesn't care about how people would perceive him if he couldn't fix tebow. The only way tebow gets released if he sucks in the remaining preseason games and couldn't grasp the playbook.

I have seen people mock him and riddcule him for no reason, I will not be part of that. He is a patriots Player and deserves my support, the same view for every player on this team. As long as you are giving a full effort, I will root for you.

Furthermore, I have no problem with Tebow supporters as long as you criticize him equally when he plays good or bad. No néed for this high school jokes I have seen the past couple of days. To be honest they weren't even funny tebow could be cut today and it wouldn't affect me because I'm a partiots fan and not a tebow fan, but it sucks when some people criticize him only because of his following . We get it Tebow can't throw a lick of football of football, his accuracy sucks, but rather than rooting for him to suck and be cut, I want him to be in this team and work on his weaknesses and help this team in whatever way he can. That's all. If he gets cut so be it . I hope he gets a another Chance and beomes successful.

All joking aside from my prior two posts on the subject, I could not envision the Pats bringing in Tebow as a practice dummy. Edelman is a former QB who is actually quicker than Tebow (4.52 40 time to 4.71) - in fact, he played Tebow successfully in practice for the defense when preparing for Tebow and Denver. That would seem to be a wasted roster spot since an asset on the team can already fill that role.

As for McDaniels, with all the baggage that goes with Tebow (the media focus on a struggling backup), I just cannot see BB greenlighting that move unless he saw a huge upside for the risk. Say what you want about Haynesworth and all his issues, but the man was a force when he played to potential so I could see why the Pats might roll the dice on a low-cost salvage project there as the upside for the Pats D could have been huge if that longshot panned out. Also, BB tends to like players that give him fits in game-planning (e.g., Welker) and dislike those whom he can easily account for with a gameplan (e.g., Bledsoe). As BB took Tebow and his limited QB abilities out easily when playing for the Broncos (essentially put a linebacker on him at all times), I just can't see him signing off on a McDaniels ego issue if the player does not represent a clear value added on the field (no way do I see BB filling an active roster spot with a player whose sole team contribution is good character - even practice squad spots are viewed with scrutiny in the "play now" sense). And given the fact even Denver media is starting to recognize how successful McDaniels was with his picks in that draft, regardless of what happens with Tebow, I just cannot see McDaniels viewing Tebow as some legacy problem. BB had reportedly brought Tebow in pre-draft and may have had some interest, so there was speculation the Pats were considering drafting him in the second round (McDaniels drafted him at the bottom of the first round after drafting a very good WR in exchange for 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks). That could have been a draft game by BB, but it also may represent some legitimate interest by BB.

When this issue become history, with Tebow here or not, I hope the method to the madness is explained. It should make for an interesting story.
