Patriots Training Camp, Day 12 (@ Philadephia)

Our CB depth is getting depleted by the day :/ Down to Talib, Arrington and Ryan. Sure looked wonderful on paper before training camp started, though.

I was never really satisfied with our depth. The only thing you can count on when it comes to Dowling is that he'll get some sort of nagging injury before the beginning of the season. So I never really counted him. Ryan is a rookie coming in from a primarily zone-based defense at Rutgers, so there's a huge learning curve there. That left us with the starting three, an injury waiting to happen, a rookie trying to learn a new scheme, and some undersized camp bodies. Putting it another way, the CB depth was very top-heavy.

In all, it looks like what is going on with Dennard, if I can be an armchair doctor for a second, is an ankle sprain. Maybe a high one. With rest, he should be ready by Week 1. Now we just have to hope Talib doesn't get injured.

- (Q.: isn't it possible he just took so many snaps today because he's not playing tomorrow? Need mallett to get us a 1st) -- Yeah, but in the past, when he doesn't play, his reps are very limited in walkthrough the day before.

Chip Kelly says that Michael Vick will start for the Eagles this week against the Pats, and then Nick Foles starts next week.

They'll alternate with the first team in the first quarter.

Kelly also says that Matt Barkley will play in the second and third quarters.

Sounds like the mental errors, particularly on deep balls, are still plaguing Wilson.

In the real world teams assign a value to a player and draft accordingly, **** everything else.

Was Tavon a bad pick? His first season statline was pretty good for a rookie and he had a number of bad plays too so we'll see how things progress. I'm not a fan of the pick but there's so much stuff implied in the term 'reach' that it's silly. You can't *know* that a team won't have graded out your guy similarly so you can't pass on him hoping to get him in a later round and opting to pick a lesser-graded player now.

That's a great way to draft players who aren't the best on your board.

- Should have made this point, obvious as it is, but Brady's familiarity in Pats O aids release as Vick/Foles' unfamiliarity hinders theirs. note: McLane had an article comparing the release time of the Eagles QBs today

- #Eagles-#Patriots practice about to begin. It'll be a light one. No pads, just shells.

- #Eagles T Dennis Kelly had surgery on his back and is out for the rest of the preseason.

- With Kelly out, Allen Barbre' chances of making the team just upped considerably.

- Missing from today's light practice for the #Eagles: Jason Peters, Cary Williams, Antonio Dixon and Ed Wang.

- Doesn't look like Damaris Johnson or Russell Shepard are practicing today either.

- LeSean McCoy and Nate Menkin are back.
