It's the same reason he doesn't want to come back, that's why they agreed for the good of the team to release him.
The only possible reason Dillon won't retire is to try to get into the Hall of Fame.
Can't blame him for that. He's proud, he's taken a lot of crap and he deserves it.
836 more yards and he passes Thurman Thomas for 12th all time. Is that enough?
He gained 812 last year, so it would take a year or 2 as a Pat.
But, there's more. This is why he would be a distraction on the Patriots.
1 Emmitt Smith 18,355
2 Walter Payton 16,726
3 Barry Sanders 15,269
4 CURTIS MARTIN 14,101
5 Jerome Bettis 13,653
6 Eric ****erson 13,259
7 Tony Dorsett 12,739
8 Jim Brown 12,312
9 Marcus Allen 12,243
10 MARSHALL FAULK 12,162
11 Franco Harris 12,120
12 Thurman Thomas 12,074
13 John Riggins 11,352
14 COREY DILLON 11,238
Once he matches Thomas, he needs only 238 yards to pass Jim Brown at #9.
We are talking media frenzy, folks. 46 yards to Franco Harris, 42 yards to Marshall Faulk, 81 yards to Marcus Allen, 69 yards to Jim Brown.
Meanwhile, do we sit Maroney on the bench for a year or two while Corey goes for guaranteed, (if he passes Jim brown), HOF?
Or do we sit Dillon With media from all over the world waiting for ourbackup to get in the game?
Pretty good idea to release him, I say. We need to develop Maroney and I can't blame Corey for dragging those bones out there another year when the hall is that close.
