Report: Alex Smith "effectively" traded

Why are Chiefs fans pissed? There team has a ton of talent, a stud RB, going from atrocious QB play to solid QB play will be the difference from 2-14 to 10-6.

In this scenario, Smith would have a franchise LT in Joeckel blocking for him too.

There are also many QBs expected to go in day 2 that they could develop, or use as insurance in case Smith gets hurt or plays poorly.

Well they are stupid then. :D

Seriously, a stud franchise LT with the #1 pick and a solid, proven, NFL QB or a (most likely) terrible rookie QB and an above average LT with the 33rd pick.

They deserve every bit of pain they feel. They never gave Cassel a chance, and then they drove Pioli out of town after having the one bad season, and they did all that pretty much because the Chiefs didn't draft Sanchez.

That level of stupidity deserves the years of suffering. It's Jetsfanesque.

Good for Alex. He needed another QB friendly coach and Andy Reid was Jim Harbaugh before Jim Harbaugh at making the most out of his QBs.

He honestly couldn't have gone to a better place.

after reading on yahoo that cassel is likely to be a cap casualty, smith to KC makes a whole of sense.

A FA QB makes the most sense since there really isnt a QB in this draft who is worthy of the 1st pick. KC can still pick up a QB in later rounds.

I wonder how high a pick SF got?

The good news - if a system qb like Alex Smith who was unwanted by his old team can garner a high 3rd round pick along with a conditional pick, just imagine what a young, brimming with potential QB like Mallet could get in return??

Chiefs fans appear to be conveniently forgetting that Alex Smith was playing pretty darn well before Harbaugh knifed him for Kaepernick.

If Alex Smith today is worth a 3rd, Mallett would be worth a 5th. Of course that ignores contract status.

Comparing Alex Smith today to Cassel's last year as a patriot:
Alex is better
Both had similar reputations -- game manager, few mistakes
Alex has a better contract (Cassel had been signed to a way overpriced franchise tag)

Therefore, I could easily see teams giving up 2nd rounders for him.
And maybe giving up a mid first rounder

unofficial reports are they gave up a THIRD rounder and a pick TBD

Go compare their career numbers.

I would think either KC or Bills. I'm leaning toward the Chiefs.

Mallet was drafted in the 3rd round, how would he be worth less than that after being in the league for 2 years behind Brady? He would be traded for at least a 3rd rounder, but they have invested time into training him so maybe a 2nd depending on the team.

Nothing new in the NFL. Future draft picks have always been wayyy overrated.

LOL @ 5th rounder for Mallett. I'm glad our forum posters aren't the ones in charge of our GM duties. Next we'll be giving away Brady for a 3rd round pick. :p

He'd be traded for what could be gotten.

or not at all, I wouldn't give Mallet away like that.

You have no idea whether or not that's giving him away. Mallett hasn't looked as if he's worth much of anything during his limited appearances as a Patriot.
