This is going to be a little controversial but after having seen both in the same game, I think I prefer Jesse Williams to Louis Nix. Don't get me wrong, I really like Nix but I do think he plays a little undisciplined. He'll jump into the gap the OL gives him as the RB runs through the opposite gap. Williams on the other hand plays really disciplined. He takes on double teams with real aggression and whilst he's not there yet, there is some real athleticism to his play. And by the way, did you see his blocking as a FB on that TD run. Brushed Te'o aside and then took another defender head on.

I wouldn't be upset at either and I do think Nix's upside is greater but Williams just feels like an ideal Pats fit if BB is looking DT.

Depends on the degree but it's very likely.

This is the injury that made Santonio Holmes go down like he was shot.

Looks like Jones injured it in the first quarter of the SEC CG. That definitely changes my opinion on him (in a good way.) There's still the question of how well he will rebound. I understand Lisfranc injuries can be problematic.

Williams is underrated (probably due to the fact that most recent Alabama prospects have underwhelmed in the NFL) but Nix has a little Wilfork in him and a little Haynesworth in him, and that's just fascinating.

Ok firstly, you need to contribute more. You've been making some really good points recently. And secondly, I know that I'll probably change my mind on Williams v Nix back and forth because I do like both. Just found myself more impressed with Williams today.

I see both points of view, and you've both captured it perfectly. "Wilfork, with a touch of Haynesworth" is a nice description of Nix, who has a tantalizing skill set. But Manx also captures the essence of Jesse Williams - his athleticism is currently concealed within a game of unbelievable power and discipline. They're slightly complementary: Williams, like Wilfork, has playmaking ability which he has yet to let out, and Nix needs to reign his in just a bit. But I'd take either, or both, in a heartbeat.

Now where do you put Johnathan Hankins with respect to the two of them?

Neither Nix nor Williams is the kind of DT that I'm looking for, and I think the defense would benefit much more from a penetrator rather than another plugger. The difference for me is that I think Nix has the potential to be just about everything Wilfork has been for the Pats, where I don't think Williams quite has that kind of potential.

Personally I have both ahead of Hankins, albeit marginally.

I think Nix gives single blockers bigger fits but for me Williams is better at eating up double teams and that's where the discipline I was referring too comes in.

He ties down two OL's practically on every play. That's OL's not blocking LBers. His presence is more important than what you are suggesting.

And I agree with Al, when he was out there, KLM looked better than Tuitt. That's two games of ND's I've watched now and came away thinking that both times. That's not to say Tuitt isn't any good, just that in two games now, I've not been overly impressed. Probably dominated in his other games.
