Get well soon, Julian Edelman

What's the typical window of time for a player to come back from a concussion?

By the NFL Rules, any player who is suspected of having suffered a concussion is supposed to be out for the game and not able to return. This was reinforced last year with a memo afterthe Browns allowed Colt McCoy to return during a game after a vicious hit by James Harrison and it was clear that he was suffering from a concussion.

As for the timetable, he could be cleared to practice as early as the Pats next practice, which will probably be Monday. Or, he could be out for awhile. Marc Savard is going on over 2 years now and he's still not been able to return. They lost Nathan Horton for a good portion of this past season for the same thing. Some guys are able to come back right away. Others aren't. It all depends on the severity of the concussion.

Edelman is awesome with the ball in his hands.
He's pretty good when the ball is in an opponent's hands, or on the ground.
He's nothing special when the ball is in the air, or in the QB's hand.

The last one is why he's inferior to Welker, and why he's not really a DB.

He's a pretty impressive player even so.

Edelman?? I thought he was cut in training camp?

Then I thought he was supposed to be cut before going to jail for years for that obvious (he was guilty for sure!) act of sexual assault (which was tantamount to rape according to some ).

I investigated that whole incident...the girl and her boyfriend who made the charges were from NJ and the boyfriend was a big time Jet fan...I showed that he had a Jersey address and phone number...a few days later the whole thing went *poof*....the Boston cops knew it was bullcrap from the start and THAT is a matter of record also.

Nice work Joker!

I was called a loon at the time, IIRC....well, I may be but THAT incident was total BS

Dear Mr. Landry, thank you. - New York Jets Message Board - JetNation.com

Typical Jets fans. Only thing to celebrate is an injury to our team. Pathetic franchise, pathetic fans.

WOW! I clicked the link and read that post and the follow up posts. I have no problem celebrating a hard hit and a guy playing 'balls to the wall'. But then celebrating a guy being hurt (and wishing it could have been others too) is low even for Jet fans.
The failings of our educational institutions, parenting and the general decline of society can be found all on that one page.

Hey, you weren't called a loon by me! I was dubious of the claims, appalled by so many accepting the guilt as fact, as well as astonished by what some were trying to make the incident out to be. It would be nice if that incident ended up a teachable moment for those who rush to judgment......but it ain't likely.

Another solid outing by edelman, hope he's okay and ready to play next sunday because he is becoming a big weapon in this offence.

Julian Edelman Head Injury thread

Discuss all updates, implications, status, alternative thoughts, etc.

The only 'good' thing is that he was injured on a Thursday instead of a Sunday, or worse, Monday. Gives him 3 more days to recover. :(

Everyone knows he sucks. What's the difference?

No doubt JE is playing at a level that makes him a valuable contributor to the team (pro bowl though??). If this keeps up? BB's is owed some serious praise for his patience and forward looking vision with him. But is JE building up a history of not being able to stay on the field? Is my memory drowning in too much fermented holiday spirit...or did he have some issues with staying on the field last year too?

JE seems like a tough guy. If he can get the ok from the head doctors that his bell wasn't rung too hard, I'd be very surprised if he isn't on the field against the Phins. He just needs to learn to duck in certain situations.

Btw, an unmentioned but noteworthy moment was his after the catch move to shake the defender and take it in for 6.

I don't think getting your bell rung and leaving as a precaution for a concussion is particularly part of "building up a history of not being able to stay on the field". Hopefully Edelman will be back in 10 days, or at least in time for Houston.

It occurs to me that the idea of Edelman as a mini-Welker is really inaccurate. He is a very different play, with much more speed, deep threat ability, and open field breakaway capability. The guy who he reminds me of over the past 2 days is GB WR/KR Randall Cobb, one of my binkies in the 2011 draft, who was taken at #64 overall in the 2nd round.

Compare their measurables from NFL Draftscout:

- Cobb: 5' 10 2/8" 191#; 4.46 40, 1.56 10 yard split, 7.08 3-cone, 4.34 short shuttle; 33.5" vertical, 9'7" broad jump
- Edelmann: 5' 10 3/8" 195#; 4.52 40, 1.52 10 yard split, 6.62 3-cone, 3.92 short shuttle; 36.5" vertical, 10'3" broad jump

Edelman has had 172 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs over the past 2 games, plus 2 more ST TDs (one PR, one fumble recovery).

Meanwhile Shane Vereen has 184 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs of his own over the past 2 games. Imagine the offense at full strength when Gronk gets back, plus Hernandez, Welker, Edelman and Vereen/Ridley at RB, with Bolden/Woodhead for depth. And a healthy OL.

Definitely. But they'd need to create a new section on the ballot.

I've been a staunch suppoerter of Edes from the beginning. I always thought he was really good purely for his versatility. Did I think he would be as great as he's turned out?, No. The guy is incredible! God, I love this team. ;)

I always smiled in amusement at various threads listing Edelman as "on the bubble" to make the team in whatever year. I always knew he was in, if only for his amazing special teams contributions. BB loves a versatile player and Edelman is the definition.

He would make a great welker replacement if he could take the same beating as wes. Unfortunately he is not as tough... Shame, because if we could replace the money going to welker for a top defensive back we would be unstopable.

Re: Julian Edelman Head Injury thread

Julian is our 2nd best WR. Suck on that doubters.

he has emerged as a true #4 receiver.

I'd agree, overall. In terms of who I want out on the field right now in a 5 receiver set it's:

Welker
Gronk
Hernandez
Edelman
Lloyd/Woodhead

Loving the evolution of Edelman. This team needs to pay him and Welker both next year.

Please tell me this is your Friday-post-Thanksgiving sarcasm....
