Sooo....what happens if Brandon Lloyd or Wes Welker goes down?

This is not the final roster. They'll bring in more WR help.

I think so too.
I expect Gaffney back when healthy ~ in October.
But then I thought we'd go with 3 QBs this season.

I understand gaffney is hurt... but your going to tell me shancioe... or ever how you spell it, made the team from the tub, while gaffney who is know quality was cut.. ????

I think Shiancoe gets put on IR from the 53 as a possible bring him back candidate later on.

This might happen when Waters is ready to get down to work, since the 53rd slot seems like its going to Matt Tennant if Bedard can be believed.

Its really good then that rosters aren't frozen huh?

yup.....except that there needs to be someone worth picking up

I'm not that big of a gaffney fan, but I'm hoping the idea here was to bring him back all along......some position groups have roster flexibility (extra TE, Fortson) to be able to make a pretty easy change

It seems now the New England Patriots have three slot receivers:

Wes Welker
Julian Edelman
Greg Salas

This is from Rams practice camp report (source Stlouisrams.com)

"- Spent some time with WR Greg Salas after practice today. Salas continues to look good out there and is making a seamless transition to the outside after spending most of his rookie season in the slot. Salas told me that he played on the outside quite a bit at Hawaii but was a little rusty early on. He said it’s just a matter of sharpening his technique and getting back up to speed on beating press coverage and other fundamentals that go with taking on corners instead of the occasional linebacker or safety in the slot."

So perhaps not a 3rd slot guy, but a true wideout?

Salas doesn't necessarily have to be a slot guy. He's fairly big, (6'1, 211) and runs a 4.53. Not gonna impress with blazing speed but could create separation (and we all know that if he's got even a step on the corner, Brady can fit the ball in there.)

Perhaps both?

I gave your post a "Like", but I do wish folks would quit $hitting all over Reche Caldwell.

He was brought in here to be the #3 WR and caught 61 passes for 760, had a 2yr $2 million contract. He wasn't exactly Ochocinco.

Blame the FO for letting Branch and Givens go that year - - but that guy OUTPLAYED his expectations and contract.

Unfortunately Reche Caldwell was the one who missed that wide open pass, almost a lateral really, in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts with nothing but grass between him and the endzone that earned him the nickname "Ricochet."

It was the football equivalent to Bill Buckner and probably cost us a trip to the Super Bowl that year so it will be tough for a lot of us to forget. It may be unfair but memories like that loom large.

SLOT and CAUCASIAN are not interchangable words.

Please don't bring up f'in bug-eyes.

Branch and Gaffney make a lot of sense. Don't rule out a trade with the Rams or something like that.

pick me a lotto number

yeah what was Bill thinking we need 5 great receivers and not use gronk and ahern because thats how the nfl work. (sarcasm) We are not the Saints we dont need 3 WR to be good we have arguably two of the best TE in the game, the best slot WR and a very good number 1 WR, add Woodhead out the backfield we will be ok! People forget Edelmen is a very good backup.Branch can come in anytime a-la two years ago. This lineup is stacked! We have to calm down folks! lets get the beers ready and enjoy this season! God i love football!

I agree. When is the last time Brady threw deep, and you didnt cringe and cross your fingers. It seems that TB is better with the screens and short passes. Hence the TE fixation.. IMO of course;)

Well you forget the OC out of this equasion. During the O'Brien era, the defense was built around the dink-and-dunk plays and short-to-intermediate routes.

But last time McD was here (and based on everything he did elsewhere outside of drafting Tebow) screams deep passing. His offensive repertoire has always consisted of consistent running attack, screen passes and regular deep bombs.

Ofc he will have to adjust his schemes according to our personnel groups, and the double-TE-threat is something he is not used to. But you are all so lost if you think we will see that O'Brien type of offense this year as well.

We WILL see more deep passes this year than the last, becouse that is how McD operates.
