You really shouldn't be baffling at all. Paul Parillo from PFW told the story that he asked Hoyer why he signed his RFA tender so quickly (given there was supposedly so much interest in him). Hoyer told him that during the time before he signed, he didn't get a single call from a team...ZERO interest. So he and his agent decided to sign the tender and play this year for the $2MM. Little did he know.Well, that's surprising. NFL teams baffle me.
Sign the beast.
Anyone who had claimed him off waivers would have had to pay the old contract. Now, they can sign him to whatever deal they can agree to.I don't think when he is cut that anyone has to pick up the existing contract? Not sure. As the previous poster said when there is an injury or 2 he will get picked up.

this right here makes sense as to why they'd cut hoyer - Mike Kafka could be a Patriot, Packer, Brown or Chief? - NFL.com
kafka has been really impressive IMO

As said several times, by the afternoon of Monday September 10th - after 2-3 QB's go down with injury in game one - they will be calling him.
His value wasn't now. It was Monday September 10th.
No team like Kafka enough to claim him, and he was cheap too, unlike Hoyer.
Couldnt the Pats wait for Hoyer to clear waivers and just pay him 1/2 of his current contract? He already knows the system and would suffice as a 3rd string QB
what if Belichick got a 2nd for Hoyer? Everyone would have complained when he reached on another guy absent from the Kiper's big board.
