If no one bothered to check...Edelman had a grand total of FOUR receptions in thirteen games last year. He isn't the 4th receiver, he's mainly a punt returner and a very good one. I'd keep him over Slater if I had to pick one of them.
I'd like to see the Jets safeties try to cover those little buggers zooming all over the place.
Then you come back with Stallworth, LLoyd, Gronkowski, Hernandez and Holley.
Not only are they assuming that he makes the opening day roster, they are already backing bags for proven players.
To answer the question though, I think his 3 yr deal solidifies the thinking that he'll be here. It's quite possible in my opinion that he will end up as the 5th RB and Brandon Bolden will be exposed to waivers in hopes of moving him to the PS. I honestly do not believe that Bolden makes the 53 man roster.
On a serious (and somewhat embarrassing) note: I do not know the protocol for players who are exposed to the waivers system while trying to make it to the PS. Obviously, anyone has the right to swoop in and snag them, but is it possible that they can sweeten the pot for him in hopes of getting him to stay? In other words, does he have the right of refusal? And if so, could the NEP therefore almost guarantee him staying here? Is that along the lines of what they did last season for the DE/OLB hybrid that everyone was high on? (Can't remember his name) The one who made PS player of the week a couple of times.
No, If he is placed on waivers he has to go to the team that he is awarded to. The only other option would be to quit.
Practice squad players have already cleared waivers and can sign with another team or refuse an offer and remain on the practice squad.
Thanks ACQB, I appreciate the response. That makes a lot of sense, as I must have been thinking of the underlined part of the sentence in regards with the player whom I had in mind from last year, although I still can't think of his freaking name. He was a hybrid who made PS POTW a couple/few times and they beefed up his contract/incentives to keep him here, only to cut him this past spring.
I think Demps makes the 5th RB spot I guess. I can't see where else he'd fit. That makes the possibility of keeping a true FB more unlikely (IMO), and also even may affect the numbers on the o-line--especially if McDonald shows enough versatility to play interior and tackle. The possibility exists that the number there could be one less than expected, although I doubt it. I think the FB idea goes, especially with Fells now healthy, as I had originally figured him to be a PUP candidate.
Markell Carter and he is currently without a team so I don't know if it was the best move for him to refuse an offer to join another teams 53.

I missed that detail.
But doesn't Ebert or any other 7th round pick have a similar deal?
I do agree that if you have a guy with world-class sprinter speed, who's already solid enough for football, that's an interesting package
Yeah I imagine that is quite a good point, re: other late rd picks. It's not like they broke the bank to pick him up, but there must've been something that lured him here, at least one would think.
Believe me, I'm with you on the potential of Demps and the fact that I think too many assumptions are being made with him.

I think because there's no way he'll clear waivers on the way to the PS. He's a lock. He can't be worse than Woodhead returning kicks, right? If you watch how he returned kicks you can see he is a true threat every time he touches the ball. Why is everybody assuming that Demps, who's a late camp arrival and an UDFA, has a strong chance of making the Day 1 roster?
When you are arguably the fastest man to ever play the game, there will be a role for you. That's why 32 teams contacted his agent.I thought the same thing... we have not even seen him make a play in the NFL.. and even though he is in great shape and has great potential, he has not had one day in TC yet.
Agreed. Lets get a grip here. Granted the OL gave up too many pressures, but only ONE sack. Plus had TWO RB's who averaged more than 5ypcOur OL is in tatters FOR THE MOMENT and, in addition to the fact that McDaniels seems to be seeking a slightly more balanced approach, we have a far more dynamic RB corps this year. Please tell me we're not complaining about how the run game looked last week because it was stellar despite NO passing attack and a decidedly lackluster performance by the rag-tag bunch of stiffs who were trying and failing to get it done last week.
Mankins will be back soon. Odds are Waters will show in the another couple of weeks, and Vollmer will be off PUP any second now. The run game is NOT a concern -- at all.
The problem with Holley is that he's as slow as a freaking snail.
I remember needing the CBoys to score a TD in that OT game last year to cover (for entertainment purposes only of course) my wager, as the Cowboys were giving 4. As you know, it's extremely, extremely rare for a team to score a TD in OT so I figured I was screwed.
When Holley caught that ball and started running down the field to daylight I immediately stood up and thought I had a good chance. He is so incredibly slow that he was gassed 1/2 way to the 20 yd line, and got pulled down pretty easily at the 2.
I don't think he'd have made it anyway, even despite his slowness, but that only adds to the reason why he won't be on the 53 man roster. He picked the wrong year to compete for a WR slot on this team anyway

Yeah, but so what? Holley is my binkie and he was on the 2004-05 NCAA national championship basketball team. And his uncle is Michael Holley who wrote Patriot Reign. How can you not want a guy like that to succeed?
Irresisitible, isn't it? C'mon, admit it. He's your binkie, too.
How does a thread about kick returners end up back at the OL?
