This is a wet dream for Goddell, because he can take away the Saints 2012 1st round pick, owned by..................

Who dat?

Who dat say dey gonna pay dat Bounty?

This used to be pretty common. Jerry Glanville did it all the time as coach of the Oilers and Falcons.

But then the league was very specific about how it cannot go on, or else.

We are about to find out "or else what"

I'm pretty sure the media will make this a bigger story than what it is. I think quite a few teams besides the Saints have "bounties", they were just better at hiding them. I don't remember the Saints being a "dirty" team. The only way to know for sure is to see if there are an abnormal number of injuries when teams play the Saints.

(I do not endorse bounties. Dirty players will be dirty players.)

Don't see what the big deal in this is. Doesn't the league already reward players for making "bone-crushing" hits? Really sick of the double standard here.

Oh lord, former Redskins players say Williams ran bounty systems that paid for big hits..

Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints had bounty systems that paid for big hits [updated] - The Insider - The Washington Post

Me thinks Peyton Manning has some thoughts running through his head right now.

Good point, could be that Williams' bounty system ultimately ended Peyton's career. Maybe that realization is what prompted the league to finally take this stuff seriously.

The really disgusting thing is that he'll probably actually ask around to see if he could get away with that.

I can see it now, as punishment, NFL takes away Super Bowl title and awards victory to Colts. Colts then have big celebration and raise flag in first game next year

While I get your snark, the official game rules of the NFL specifically prohibit the Commissioner from doing such a thing.

Who knows, but it is a pretty crazy coincidence....

You mean that we don't have to listen to any more nausea-inducing treacle about how noble the Saints are because they helped New Orleans recover from Katrina?

And...that we don't have to listen to any more talk about how great and clean cut and downright all American a player Drew Brees is?

Say it ain't so!

:singing::singing::singing:

it's amazing how effective image-management can be. Remember, we all thought OJ was a great guy before ...

Re: New name for the SAINTS??

"Sinners" seems to be the logical next step.

Re: New name for the SAINTS??

After being called names (and a lot of them at that ) after the SPYGATE Incident, isnt it time we start giving out names to teams which are caught doing things they arent supposed to be doing?

Please come up with unique/creative names for the SAINTS

Not only is it big,but if you were someone like Brett Favre who was not hit illegally once but twice in that playoff game a few years ago by Bobby McCray on multiple hits and 15 yard penalties, you might want to consider legal action.

Being Favre, he actually took photos to show the effects.

The argument made for the high levels of penalties in the Spygate case was that the "program" was systematic and endorsed by the coaching staff. However, even then, the NFL, in assessing the penalties, stated that there was no evidence that the activities had ever resulted in an advantage during a game.

Those words should now come home to haunt Goodell, as there is no way in which the Saints can deny that they didn't get an on-field advantage for taking players off the field either temporarily (as in what their program called a "cart off") or permanently for the game (what the program called a "knockout") .

If $750,000 and a first round pick was the penalty for something that was systematic but didn't produce an on-field advantage, what should be the penalty for a systematic program that regularly produced an on-field advantage?

I have a feeling that Bob Kraft, who was contrite and low key (too low key for some of us) throughout Spygate will make his opinion known very clearly here.

Anything short of suspensions, $1,000,000 and two first rounders is a whitewash, IMO.
