Just finished watching it. Francis broke the story. He said the word is all over Gillette that this is Tedy's last year, especially if they make the Superbowl. Maybe he stays one more if they get bumped this weekend. Say it aint so, Tedy!
Hmmmm. Holley doesn't look Jewish, but you never know. I'll let you know if I see him at synagogue.
How to spot a rumor. Lesson 1: If a reporter has a source he's dying to let you know how connected he is.
Source close to Tedy? One of his teamates? A source close to the team?
A reliable source?
These indicate an actual person told the reporter the story.
Rumblings? Scuttlebutt? Word on the street? It's all over the locker room?
These phrases mean, "it sounds logical. I'm thinking about it, so I bet other people are too."
http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...7/01/11/the_clubs_ranks_are_dwindling/?page=2I didn't see or listen to the show, but I was actually thinking the same thing watching him in the Jets game. It hit me that next year our LB situation could be very different inside, especially if Seau doesn't come back.
To be honest, I hope Seau doesn't return. His presence, though a nice story, would hold back the development of a new player, FA or rookie, in the system. And at his age he's an extreme injury risk IMO. I think there's a pretty good chance he'd go down again based on recent history.
As for Tedy, Don Banks at SI made a reference to the fact he hasn't looked himself this year in his column Monday morning. I think Peter King has commented on it as well at least once during the season. Reiss has also mentioned it a time or two this year.
I'd leave the specific breakdowns of his play to Box or Pats1 but to the naked eye, he isn't making many plays.
I'd also add I think there's a chance Rodney may hang it up if we were to get to the SB and won and he was able to play. Barring that, I think Rodney has several good years left in him. Consider it usually takes a full season to get over an ACL tear and he made it back from a total blow out in a year.
I side with Brady myself - I'm sure the people who complain about Tedy losing a step cheered just as loudly when he was breaking up passes in the Wildcard round. The linebackers, always one of the most tight-knit groups, have even suffered the indignity of national pundits suggesting they have lost a step.
"Go ahead, see what they have to say about that," said one player.
I tried. But Vrabel wouldn't stop to chat as he walked briskly through the locker room yesterday.
"I'm on my way to lunch," he said. "Want to come?"
Vrabel has played in every game this season, but teammates say he has been fighting through excruciating back pain that has forced him to miss portions of practice both last week and this week. Vrabel is listed as probable for Sunday's game in San Diego.
What, you think he's going to actually miss this?
Bruschi, meanwhile, broke his arm early in the season and missed just the opener against Buffalo before fashioning various removable casts to allow him to play. His arm remains swollen and sore, but he lines up every week, anyway. Ditto for Seymour, whose elbow has been badly injured since he hurt it in the second Buffalo game.
Asked if he thought the criticism bothered his defensive pals, Brady said, "I'm sure it bothers them a lot when we lose. When we're winning, really, what can people say?
"No two years are the same. One guy can have a really great year, but a lot of things have to be aligned to make it happen.
"People said why did Tedy drop that pass? Well, why do you think he dropped it? He's playing with one hand. He's been wearing different casts all season. Mike Vrabel, he's playing inside linebacker for us. Well, he's an outside linebacker, and he's banged up. And in spite of all that, we're 13-4."

Great post, and I'd agree. I'd certainly respect his decision, but would still be a sad day for me.Bruschi will not retire and should not retire because he is old or has lost a step.
Bruschi shouldn't retire based on whether we will a couple of games.
Bruschi will and should retire based on what is best for him and his family.
And yes, I do think he's considering it. And yes, I think Francis has good sources. Bruschi might finish out his contract and play one more year, or not. I will respect his decision.
just my two cents

My breakdowns were why I sided with Tommy. Folks complain that Tedy is getting run over, but with a cast he doesn't get the grip he needs to apply leverage to twist a runner down. When he gets a hand on a ball, half the time that hand is wrapped in a cast to give it a nice bounce - look at the pass he defensed in the 4th Qtr of the Wildcard round - with one hand he couldn't bring in what has been an interception in past years.I wouldn't expect Brady to say anything negative publicly about Bruschi under any circumstances. Have your breakdowns shown anything to indicate he's slowing down? I just don't see the same player I saw as recently as 2004, stroke and scaphoid injury aside. (I now, two big "asides").

Tedy looked heavier to start the season, which matched what we knew about the off-season planning: Beisel was penciled in as the speedier SLB with the TE coverage responsibility; Tedy was penciled in as the TJ WLB run-stuffer, so he bulked up a bit more to handle that beating. He's lost weight through the season and appears to be playing closer to the old Tedy when I watch him. But that (apparent) weight did slow him to start the season.
I don't worry about Bruschi when I ponder upcoming games - I'm thinking about Light, Kaczur, Graham, Watson, Thomas, Hawkins, and Sanders as I ponder San Diego.
Oh, I expect James to do his job as well as he has to date (which is quite good), I just worry that he will be overmatched against Antonio Gates. My preference would be to start Chad Scott at SS and put the six foot CB/FS athlete on the athletic TE.Good take, Box. Much appreciated. I concur with your last paragraph wholeheartedly although I have a good feeling Sanders will hold his own Sunday.
On 4 Downs,Russ Francis announced the locker room scuttlebut, which was that Tedy may be thinking of retirement next year, especially if we win the SB this year.
He also acknowledged that it was only gossip at this point and that the only ones who knew for sure was him and his family. He also said the vets tend to speculate a lot about their retirements. That said,Russ also commented that the move made sense in many ways.
We shall see.
