Patriots ask for permission to speak with Josh McDaniels

Meanwhile...at this very moment, somewhere in Arizona someone is trying to persuade NEM to get off the roof as he is threatening to jump.

He and maverick04 can form a suicide pack. NEM hates all Patriots OCs, maverick had it in for "McKid".

McDaniels may be the best O.C. the Patriots have ever had. It would be great if he returned, and even better if he returned with Brandon Loyd in tow.

I agree.

I know a lot people love Weis more, but most people's memory of him is based solely on the 2004 season not other seasons like the 2003 season where the Pats' defense had to carry an unproductive offense.

The Pats pursued Lloyd when he was up for trade and he fought against the trade solely because the Pats wanted to give him a long term deal and he wanted to play out his contract and get a deal this offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if they went after Lloyd again especially if McDaniels returns.

Not looking forward to the 20 Wr screens a game and no running plays, no thanks McD.

I agree especially about bringing Brandon Lloyd in.

To me this looks an awful lot like the path that BB took. he left a successful coordinator position with the Giants under Parcells. After a failure in Cleveland, he rejoined Parcells in New England and then with the NYJ before earning another head coaching job. For Josh, I hope it works out similarly.
Hopeflly with a slight twist. Because, if the NEP promoted him to HC under that circumstance, he would spurn the job to go to a hated rival.

On a side note, how many jobs has BB and TB gotten other coaches/personnel?

1. Bring McDaniels back.
2. Let him pick out receivers.
3. ????
4. Profit!

But wasn't he solely responsible for the less than stellar drafts in 07 and 08?

:D

Heh.......

I have to admit that NO ONE plays Byzantine Court better than the New England Patriots.

What a number of mediots and fans seem to overlook is that Coach B and Mr. Kraft are playing the long game, looking way past this year and into the future for players, staff, etc. That's one of the reasons they take a QB when available, just to get him into the system and see "what if?" Brady isn't going to be here for many more years, and God forbid he gets another serious injury.

Same with the coaching staff. Look to the immediate needs of the team, but groom them for the long term.

The "win now, at all costs" mentality might get you a division title, and sell a bunch of tickets and merchandise, but the "Long Game" mindset will build you champions and long-term success.

I would welcome JM back and I believe he would do quite well here.

If McDaniels comes back here, the Jets boards will spontaneously combust. Green Beans fans want him to replace Schottenheimer.

i thought his offensive gameplan in your giants pats sb was ******ed but good enough to win, and he's smart and knows your system. this seems like a no brainer.

wouldnt be surprised if they make him assistant head coach and he takes over for belichik if he has good success that is.

he's a ****y little ******* though, not subtle at all

I agree with your first statement and your last statement and pray that your prediction does not come true.

That's exactly my thought. BB didn't take to well to being set up and plugged in as somebody else's successor. Hard to picture him grooming somebody else to be his creation as "HC of the NYP."

This would be a great move. The Chiefs are obviously thinking the same thing.

Some of the younger coaches could be promising like Ferentz, but there would still be a transition period and a period of growth. Bringing in McDaniels would be the perfect bridge, as he will want another shot at HC, so he could handle OC and we could groom someone else for the job in a few years.

True, unless of course McDaniels WANTS the HC job at New England. If he does, (and to be honest, who wouldn't?) then him coming here to work under Coach B's tutelage would be a good thing.

I hope it will be written in his contract that he is never ever allowed to give any advise or opinion or have any influence whatsoever on draft picks. He is a horrible evaluator of talent.

Well Lloyd seems to want to follow JMD, if we get both there will be as much entertainment value reading the Jets boards as watching the O on the field.

:D:singing:

The meltdowns there would be epic with ****ty remaining......

And plenty of posters here will start crying. There are plenty of NEM wannabes around here.

There was nothing wrong with his gameplan. The Pats tried everything--screens, draws, crossing patterns, deep routes to Moss--nothing worked because the OL COULD NOT BLOCK THE GIANTS DL. If you want to blame somebody, blame those guys.

With a few more years of seasoning, I think McDaniels would be a worthy successor to BB.

I'm kind of disappointed Obrien is leaving. I like the way the offense as evolved and it seemed with the emergence of Ridley and the rbbc that we were going to see a more balanced attack going forward.

My hope is if McDaniels does get hired that he utilizes the running game as well as the passing game. Seemed pretty abysmal in his tenure here. Hopefully he uses all the weapons at his disposal as a lot has changed since he's left. We have two amazing TE's,some young RB's ready to emerge. Can he use them to their full potential?
