Maybe Bill Walsh is right: after 10 years there needs to be a change

I see a lot of people saying time for Belichick to go, but not one person has said who they want to take over. Who they want to be the personnel director.

I can't fathom what this fan base would be like if we were rooting for 3/4's of the other teams in the NFL.

Insufferable.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Jeebers.....and I thought I over-reacted.

What I think needs to happen is a little more checks and balances and a little less dictatorship. Additionally, perhaps BB needs to keep some of his arrogance in check and certainly his spiteful side.

1) you change your defensive scheme in the lock out year?
2) whomever is scouting db's is terrible. Just flat out awful.
3) whomever is scouting lbs is terrible. Just flat out awful.
4) whomever is scouting safeties is terrible. Just flat out awful.
5) whomever is scouting wide-outs is terrible. Just flat out awful.
6) CHANGE THE WAY YOU SCOUT PLAYERS!
7) It's obvious that the Bodden release was personal somehow - but what competetive edge did you gain by his release? I mean, his "going thru the motions" was probably better than Moldin playing 100%
8) So, you release Bodden because he's checked out - yet keep Ochocinco who has yet to check in (oh, but he's great in practice...pardom me while I puke).
9) you can't have a decent defense without a few above average players. The Pats have Wilfork - maybe Mayo - and a bunch of garbage. Spend some quality picks on defense!
10) Brady is not getting any younger. He can't bear the burden alone...obviously. Help the guy out, Bill!

All this but I'd like to add:
Whomever is coaching the DB's is terrible. Just flat out awful.
We bring in college players with decent performance histories and who are by all accounts capable players and then our system chews them up and spits them out. And look what we're stuck with. Look at the players who once played at a very high level for us and who are no longer here. A decent system and coaching should result in player development not player destruction.

I can't fathom what this fan base would be like if we were rooting for 3/4's of the other teams in the NFL.

Insufferable.

The reaction today would seem to be a team that is 1-6 not 5-2. Could be worse could have lost to St Louis.

14-2 last year and the Patriots are 5-2 this year. Some Patriots fans are way off the charts on the spoiled meter.

Holy crap, no kidding. Just take the last 3 seasons:

2009 - 10-6, won division title, lost in WC round
2010 - 14-2, won division title, lost in divisional round
2011 - 5-2, tied for 1st place

I know the playoff success hasn't been there, but good grief. During the past 3 seasons, here's what other big-time teams have done:

Ind
2009 - 14-2, won division title, lost in SB
2010 - 10-6, won division title, lost in WC round
2011 - 0-7

NO
2009 - 13-3, won division title, won SB
2010 - 11-5, lost in WC round
2011 - 5-3

GB
2009 - 11-5, lost in WC round
2010 - 10-6, won SB
2011 - 7-0

Pit
2009 - 9-7, missed playoffs
2010 - 12-4, won division title, lost in SB
2011 - 6-2

Bal
2009 - 9-7, lost in divisional round
2010 - 12-4, lost in AFCCG
2011 - 5-2

SD
2009 - 13-3, won division title, lost in divisional round
2010 - 9-7, missed playoffs
2011 - 4-2

Phi
2009 - 11-5, lost in WC round
2010 - 10-6, won division title, lost in WC round
2011 - 3-4

Dal
2009 - 11-5, won division title, lost in divisional round
2010 - 6-10, missed playoffs
2011 - 3-4

NYJ
2009 - 9-7, lost in AFCCG
2010 - 11-5, lost in AFCCG
2011 - 4-3

I mean, sure, the Patriots are "down" right now. But the overreaction around here is astounding. They lost essentially by one score on the road to an elite team. It happens. Geez, New Orleans, just two years removed from being SB champs, got obliterated on the road at St. Louis, who was winless!! The Cowboys, who aren't bad, got mauled on the road by the Eagles.

This isn't to say there aren't problems that need to be fixed. But I think some people around here expect perfection.

I see a lot of people saying time for Belichick to go, but not one person has said who they want to take over. Who they want to be the personnel director.

not necessarily go, but half of his staff is nobodies, and the other half is......not there

to me what is obvious is that there is no way in hell that he's going to do it himself.......and other teams are not knocking on the pats doors for head coaches anymore......another testament to the problems of the current staff......if anything, he needs to get real coordinators.....hell, bring back mcdaniels and mangini......

I mean they decide to change the defensive scheme in a season without OTA's and only part of a training camp, and pretty much did it without a defensive coordinator......

I think the player roster has problems, but the coaching staff is grossly unprepared to work the best scheme that might work for this motley bunch.

not really.......the manner in which this team was rag-dolled in the playoffs 2 years in a row makes the complaints of today valid......this team is no different.

the offense can be stopped, and has steadily fallen in terms of production with each week. 38,35,31,31,30,20,17....the yards are similar

Not really. The better and more successful a team is, the more impatient, rabid and critical their fanbase. If you're used to winning, the natural reaction to losing is indignation. That's just how it is.

Indeed.

I would force him to hire a DC in the offseason. I would bring in a personnel guy. And if he didn't like it, I'd fire him. 3 Super Bowl's with this QB is criminal. They probably have one more year where he's elite.

The Kraft's need to step it up too. They need to spend some money on talent not on the team.

I don't think Belichick is the problem as coach because he is the best in the game at Xs and Os.....BUT as a GM type guy he really stinks.

Its time to open up the pocket books and say screw the cap 3 years later and try and win now with Brady at the helm....this means going out and getting a veteran star on defense to help these inexperienced and struggling guys we have now,Kraft needs to open the wallet a little more on players NOT currently on the team.

Its time to do something similar like the Adalius signing and go flashy in FA with players other than discarded heaps of trash from other teams like Belichick has a habit of these days
...but hopefully a MUCH better result than AD was.

Belichick should be left as coach and let someone else take care of getting some decent talent in here...... I miss Dimitroff who was a help in getting the right guys in here.

Tired of ten winning seasons? Who should we get, Sparano or Caldwell?

Common people. It's a 5-2 team this year and a 14-2 team last year. All while after the super bowl years most of the organization was pilfered and raped by other teams taking our people from Dmitroff, Weiss, Crenel, Pioli, McDaniels, and others. BB is rebuilding the entire team when the dynasty players retired, by 08, all this while sustaining a high level of success.

Rebuilding organizational talent is as hard as rebuilding playing talent.

If not for Brady and BB, we would be looking at 2-3 years of sporting a .500 team.

How do you account for the team, in his tenure being the most successful in the NFL if he really stinks?

Would you like to cite all of the examples of teams that opened up the pocket books to try to win now, and won?
Or should I?

There, I saved you trouble and listed them all.

There is plan its hard to say no to. Lets do something that doesn't work, but lets do it much better.

Belichick should be left as coach and let someone else take care of getting some decent talent in here...... I miss Dimitroff who was a help in getting the right guys in here.
You didn't know who Dimitroff was before he went to Atlanta.
BB will not accept authority being taken away from him. Especially when there is no justification.
But go ahead and humor me and give me that list of all the guys who can do or have done a better job.

I see a lot of people saying time for Belichick to go, but not one person has said who they want to take over. Who they want to be the personnel director.
The issue seems to be the personnel not the coaching. BB seems to be coaching as well as ever but his roster composition has been questionable for some time. I think that's where the divide is coming from.

I'm also uncertain how much of the blame I'm going to attach to the NFL lockout. It's well documented Patriots schemes are complex in nature. This season, we really haven't seen anything complex from the D.

The last year Mangini was the DC (which also happened to be the only year he was the DC) this team lost to a bad Denver team against whom they seemingly couldn't do anything right on offense or defense. Josh was the defacto OC that season and the OC again in 2006 when we couldn't score in the second half or convert on freakin 3rd or 4th down when our lives depended on it.... Neither Mangini nor McDaniels could get teams turned around on offense or defense at their next two stops and no one but ESPN has kicked Mangini's tires since and I doubt Josh will have a coordinators gig next season either. Their overhyped success here was a product of being raised in a Belichick system.

Bill clearly went to 4-3 this season because it's easier to run and teach and cobble together a roster for since it's what so many guys have played since college. Most of you were thrilled with the FA signings and the switch when training camp opened and in the pre season... Now in hindsight it was all apparently lunacy...LOL

Pioli has created a hot mess for himself down in KC and Atlanta isn't exactly living up to expectations lately...

Be careful what some of you wish for because when the time does come that you get it you're not going to be any happier...

Boston sports fans suck. Bruins" fans" complaining. Red Sox fans forgetting. 7 titles in 10 years. Now Belichick. Yeah. Since 2006 12-4,16-0,11-5,10-6,14-2,5-2. 58-19. Yeah let's bring in someone and go back to pre Belichick days.

Part of the frustration for people is that this team has a prime Hall of Fame QB in a QB driven league. I think people see the window for Brady slowly closing and are getting frustrated.

Something doesn't add up. How is he bad at personnel decisions if the team is 19-4 over the last two seasons?

These were some of Peter King's top 50 available Free Agents. Do you think some of them could have helped this season since a majority of them are pass rushers and shut down corners. But Bill didn't need any of them.

All you have to do is see what Harbaugh has done in one year. What Rex did in his first year and what Mr. 19-4 hasn't done since 2007, put together a defense capable of winning a championship.

1. Asomugha CB Eagles
3. Cullen Jenkins DE Eagles
6. Jason Babin DE Eagles
9. Antoinio Cromartie CB Jets
10.Ray Edwards DE, Falcons
11. Jonathan Joseph CB, Texans
20. Barrett Ruud, LB, Titans
26. Dashon Goldson S, 49'ers (Pats looked at him and didn't sign him)
27. Josh Wilson CB, Redskins
30. Carlos Rogers CB, 49'ers (Playing like an All-Pro)
34. Bernard Pollard S, Ravens
37. Dawan Landry S, Jaguars
50 Matt Roth, DE, Jaguars (Patriots wouldn't pay him what he wanted)

Patriots did not bring in one guy ranked in the top 50. Not ONE!!! Nothing.

They brought in Carter who has actually been a surprise, Haynesworth and the rest of the bums on Defense.

So is it just the Coach or is the Kraft family the problem? They couldn't afford two of these guys. They didn't draft defense and won't pay for it.

They also took Dowling of Sheard and Brooks Reed.
