OT: Jets Holmes throws offensive line under the bus

Here's the big difference between the Jets and the Pats.

On the Jets, Rex selects the team captains in order to create a cadre of appointed "leaders" who take their cues from him. Thus, Sanchez and Holmes being captains even though neither of them have earned any kind of leadership stripes from their teammates.

On the Patriots, the players elect captains who best represent them based on demonstrated leadership on the field and in the locker room. When Patriots captains speak, they do so with the knowledge that their own peers put them in that position.

It's pretty obvious which method is more effective based on what's going on in Jersey right now.

Was it pretty obvious when the Patriots had to have a housecleaning of their own a couple of years ago?

People like to cast stones, but nobody's invented a perfect approach yet.

Not saying the Pats approach is perfect did you read the quote from Brandon Moore this afternoon about Holmes?

"He's obviously got the green light to evaluate every position on the team," Moore said. "I just didn't think captaincy entailed that. I've never seen a captain do that. That's not leading. That's not being a leader. It actually fragments the locker room. It's not productive."

"Obviously, it's OK to do that," said Moore, alluding to Rex Ryan's freedom-of-speech policy. "This organization let's you say whatever you want. There's no muzzle. But as a professional, there are some things you do muzzle. I've muzzled my mouth numerous times. It's called being a pro. It's called taking care of your brothers in the locker room, the guys who fight for each other."

If Miami wins monday night, things will get very interesting in Jersey...:D

The offensive line held their ground against the Pats.

Santonio Holmes might be the most overrated player in the NFL. He makes some circus catches in critical times, but he's never been a truly elite receiver, besides signing an elite receiver contract.

If he got $55M, what's Welker worth?

I don't find it surprising that guys who are getting bashed would be unhappy with getting bashed. People generally speaking their minds aren't going to destroy a team. Idiots who don't know when to speak their minds and when to shut up can damage any team, regardless of the public, or private, nature of the comments. Holmes is being an idiot, no question about it in my mind.

I just don't buy it when people try going from this idiot to a general policy.

Sounds like Brandon Moore should probably be a captain.

My favorite JI post about Holmes' rant:

Imagine Welker talking **** about his teammates to the media? Yea, me either.

Well said. Welker would never put his foot in his mouth that way. ;)

Good for Brandon Moore! This is fun. When the players are coming out and saying the locker room is fractured, you know it is bad. That huge sucking sound is the 2011 Jets imploding.

I will go out on a limb and say the Jets lose on Monday because of this. Talent cannot overcome a fractured locker room where half the offense hates the other half.

I can't do it, because I've got to get ready for tonight, but someone should set up a poll asking who'll be the first Jets player to throw teammates under the bus if the Dolphins beat them on Monday.

I'll take Burress. He's due.

BTW, I love how Jets fans are defending Holmes saying he is only speaking the truth (they are right there), this is how leaders lead (leaders never call out their teammates in the media), and Brady does this all the time (Brady has never done this. He might say the offense including himself need to play better, but he would never call out a specific player or a group of players to the media).

[In fact, many Jets fans are madder at Moore for responding to Holmes throwing him under the bus and he should just shut up and take it like a man. Funny, no one on the team is stating the obvious - Holmes has played like crap this year.

They must have been thinking about Peyton.

So when the Jets fail to make the super bowl this year does Ryan get fired because his team has underperformed based on his expectations over the past two years?

Holmes is a captain. This is a perfect example of Jets team leadership. And the infighting couldn't happen to a better team than the Jests.

Seriously what a bunch of whining azzholes the Jests have become. Then again what do we expect with a coach who makes his team into a reality tv show and whose penchant for toes makes headlines LOL.

No wonder the Steelers shipped his butt out of town. He is the definition of 'lockerroom cancer'.

You say "cancer", Jets say "captain".

Fine franchise over there.

I'll say Rex. He'll backhandedly admit to getting beaten by a better coach, but does anyone think he'll admit being defeated by Sparano? Ha! Entire team right under the bus.

Re: OT: Jets Holmes throws offensive line under the bus/Moore response

Oh oo, now Brandon Moore(Jets' Guard) has ripped Santonio a new one.
pam param pam pam I'M LOVING IT

Brandon Moore rips Santonio Holmes for ripping Jets’ line | ProFootballTalk

Let me go get a gad damn snack wait and see how Rex handle this but this is what he had to say before Moore came out lol
Ryan said he doesn't think his offensive linemen were bothered by the comment. "No," the coach said, "they've got skin like an armadillo

My God, I will give my right testes just to see another loss to make it 4 in a roll.

The best part is that this current Jets team is what they need to ride for the next few years.

- Sanchez, Greene, Holmes and Keller are the core on offense
- The OL is shaky and the depth there is a dumpster fire
- The defense looks to be on a downward trajectory with only Wilkerson (OK), Wilson (meh) and Ellis (ick) in the pipeline
- The Jets have huge cap hits for a lot of players (Sanchez, Holmes, Ferguson, Mangold, Pace, Scott, Harris, Revis, Cromartie) for the next few years. About $86M for those 9 players in 2012.

If this team fractures and falls apart, I don't see how they are able to change this core anytime soon. Could be interesting.

This is what happens when you have immature leadership. Ryan is not going to last much longer there.
