How the players we let go are doing...

Sure glad we have Sergio Brown and not James Sanders. What an upgrade that's been.

Defensive players are doing quite well? Did we read the same article? It looks like Meriweather is the only one starting and the only one I would consider an improvement over what we have on the team. And that's not saying much because our safeties have been awful in general.

Nothing really jumped out at me saying "wow we should have kept him"

I would have kept Meriwether and Butler.

Backup CB with Molden and Adams is a problem right now. When Bodden and Dowling get back, it will be less of a problem.

Wilhite seems to be playing very well. He has two sacks and an INT so far. He has more sacks that any of our D-linemen (I believe). That's just pathetic.

i find this extremely interesting, considering how in depth it is:

-tate is having some decent returns
-all the defensive players we let go are doing quite well at other teams, either starting or playing an important role...what does this say about our defense?

defensively, who's doing quite well?

butler can't crack the lineup in one of the worst secondaries in the NFL

merriweather is playing due to injury, he is what he is

sanders isn't seeing the field

wilhite's numbers look good when he plays, but i haven't seen enough of denver to say

seems like the Pats were right to let sanders & butler walk......merri was a decision that appears to have been made on multiple factors.....wilhite isn't bad, but simply wasn't as good as the guys they kept (bodden, mccourty, dowling, arrington)

interesting with tate.....but they didn't see the need to keep a strictly return guy.....

as for the OL/TE....well, there was depth there.....i'd love to have lee smith back

so they sent him on two stunts and he got there....big deal

sacks do not equal pass rush....especially when they come on a corner stunt

Agreed. Check this:
Active as a backup but doesn't show up on stat sheet, Active and plays sparingly, Active as a backup, Plays in a reserve role, Doesn't start and doesn't show up on the stat sheet...

I would say Tate and Whilhite have shown decent ROI, given what that article says.

Wow wilhite seems to be playing well. I wonder if he's been getting burnt.

I fear that Dowling is the JD Drew of the Patriots. Or was it Haynesworth and not Dowling? That's right, Dowling is Drew and Haynesworth is Jenks.

How can you say that based off of a stat sheet? A couple of corner blitzes get called and all of a sudden Wilhite is playing well?

You referring to Meriweather? Where the Bears have averaged yielding 29 ppg since he has started? And almost went 0-3 during that time after squeaking by the Panthers at home this week? I'm not saying that is all his fault but those aren't the results I would typically associate with a Bears' defense.

That's why I said seems. Looks like he could be playing well maybe would be a better way to say it. If anyone knows some broncos fans they should ask 'em how he's done in coverage.

Whatever clown. Boy, people will say anything. It's incredible. As if you wouldn't be happy with those numbers if it were Bodden or McCourty or anyone else on our team. Get outta here.

Charles Woodson and GB have made a living off the CB blitz. How well did Sanchez do with it when the Ravens employed it on a half dozen plays on Sunday night? That's what defense is, clown. It's pressure coming from everywhere. Remember when the Patriots ran the CB blitz a lot in the championship years? Wait, you don't because your 14 posts suggests that you probably just jumped on the bandwagon a few years ago.

have we sent either on a corner blitz? sacks are the new metric to measure effective corner play now? i must have missed that memo

do you honestly think wilhite is better than mccourty or bodden? what has he shown you to make you think he's better than arrington, who's quietly putting together a couple of decent seasons?

i'm happy if wilhite is playing well, but he's simply not better than the CB's on the roster

and it is quite obvious you're making up for your lack of knowledge with aggression....classic internet move

been watching the patriots since about '76, thanks for asking.....2500 posts on an internet forum doesn't mean much, especially if they're much like the ones i've read so far

I saw Meriweather give up a 30-40 yard pass. And he was suppose to roll to the CB side in their Cover 2 defense.

Didn't watch the game. I just saw it from the Redzone Channel.
