Roster Moves Continue: Dan Gronkowski Cut

This roster roulette is getting out of hand. Why even sign the guy just to cut him before his 'home' game? It comes across as a pretty heartless move, especially since his brother is on the team. This is as mysterious to me as benching Welker.

Welcome to BB's world. He could be back at some point, but I hope we go in another direction. If we'd signed Yeatman to the 53 we wouldn't have had to deal with any of this. BTW, Welker's benching made sense to me.

Except, of course, for the possibility that we might all be wondering "WTF? The Pats just cut Yeatman!" right now.

I would expect they explicitly covered this possible outcome with both Gronkowski's before adding Dan to the roster, but you still have to wonder at the wisdom of even trying the experiment, given the likelihood that the embarrassment of Dan is a distraction for Rob. And the pre-Buffalo timing is at best a cold move unlikely to be forgotten by Rob.

I think that we need to get real. Gronkowski didn't impresss Belichick enough to be on the 53 man roster. Neither did Yeatman.

Belichick is doing his best to plug holes each weak with the bottom 6 positions on the roster, as he always has. Also, he is constantly bringing in players for a look and sending on their way if they won't impress him enough. I see nothing wrong with that approach.
====================

SOME SITUATIONS AND POSSIBILITIES

OFFENSIVE TACKLE
Welch could be moved back up as the #3 Game Day OT, or not.

TIGHT END
Either Mills or Crumpler seem possible.

SAFETY
A veteran safety could be added.

SPECIAL TEAMS
If Ventrone is an acceptable emergency safety, he could be activated. Otherwise, we seem set with the activation of Tarp.

BOTTOM LINE
We need 2-3 players for Sunday who are not presently on the roster. It should NOT be a surprise that Gronkowski was waived.

MY BOTTOM FIVE
open (Gronkowski's spot)
Molden
Adams
Tarp
Thomas
Tarp

Obviosly, there are players injured, sich as Wright, who might be put on IR.

We all have our own opinions on this message board. My preference would have been to keep Yeatman.

One TE going into what everyone in the country sees as a shootout?

Can't say I see the logic behind this move yet..they carried 3 TE's all last season, now I'm supoosed to swallow they cut Dan G because of 2 false start penalties??...a NEW player to the system? There has to be another, more logical reason.

If welker played the 1st drive maybe the pats score a touchdown(was te first drive the interception?) would it still be worth it just to prove a point? I just don't agree with doing that in such a big game.

The most logical conclusion is that they needed his roster spot for someone else who can actually play.

I believe Reiss, at least, said he wouldn't be surprised if DGronk is back later in the season (à la Tarp).

It's possible. I still think BB had to send that message to him. Welker was out of line and he, and maybe the team, paid the consequences.

I think that Dan might be among the walking wounded too. He hasn't been at practice.

So you are saying that BB shot himself in the foot with that?

Hmm... perhaps I should be benched from the forum for that ...

To be honest, I'm not sure how a few wise cracks to the media hurt the team. Guess it's BB's way.

Hindsight is 20/20. I think in this case the "I do what's best for the team" is accurate. He gave direct instructions to the team and Welker disobeyed him. I think he had to maintain discipline. That said, we were out coached and out played. Brady seemed out of it. Under those circumstances, it would have been very difficult to win.

This pretty much crystalizes exactly why I was less than thrilled with the signing in the first place.

And go into the game without a back-up at OT? That makes a lot of sense...

Unless they make another move on the O-line, they only have Wendell and Thomas, both interior linemen. And Wendell is still showing up on the injury report. If he's able to go, great.. Then Thomas can be cut and Welch promoted as the extra OT.. And then Mills could be added.

Otherwise, I don't see another TE added..

do you roll your eyes at alot of guys?

why do you insist upon responding like a jack*ss?

right now, they are short one TE for the offense they have used most of the season.........just saying........

but since you're the guy who's never been wrong before (LMFAO). I'll defer

Re: Did DGronk just get cut?

Vollmer is out, so this may be a precursor to an OL signing.

My thought exactly.

Gronkowski will likely still be available if they need him.

I believe his entire $405,000 salary this year was guaranteed as well - the Patriots did him a nice favor taking him when they did

I agree with you. Unless it's someone off our practice squad, a signing isn't going to help for Sunday. I'm starting to get a strange feeling about this one.

It's definitely going to be someone off the PS because Edds has just cleared waivers and his locker stall is still intact per Reiss.

Would be funny to see mills contribute years later.

I heard it was moss
