Re: the official post game thread

It is a good thing that we have those two tight ends because our WRs are not cutting it. Branch got a good matchup against that backup corner that Brady milked to the max but other than that there wasn't much downfield action. Brady had tremendous time in the pocket but still wasn't able to fire downfield because our WRs are not good enough. Ochocinco needs to get a good game under his belt soon because his confidence is looking shaken, especially after being taken out after that penalty.

The WRs combined had 18 receptions for 322 yards.

BB said post game that this team is No where near a good team right now. While I don't agree with that after tonights performance I do think a lot of work needs to be done on defense especially, they looked a lot like last year as another poster has said just with a beef upped line. One concern, Henne had a few big runs, we have a lot of big guys up front and when our backers and secondary are all in coverage what do we do with a scrambling qb such as Vick when we play them? Anyway I'm concerned with the secondary but big big props to the oline tonight they looked great and Connolly came in and was amazing.

Big difference was the improvement on 3rd downs and they did make some plays when they had to, we'll see how this develops but it looks better than last year to me so far.

Re: the official post game thread

Slater's taken that job

I love how they snuck him in on two snaps tonight. That's a major headache to plan against when you know he'll be good for only one or two snaps or even none in any given game but you still have to plan against it.

henne will show that he is much better than people give him credit for - I think he played very well and that the Pats D was really pretty good overall

There are some kinks to work out on defense, but I also saw a lot of positives. Tom Brady is just unbelievable! Overall, I was very impressed with the team tonight. A great team effort.

99 1/2 on one play, but still not bad. 160 Welker, 93 for Branch. Pretty good night for Deion (7 catches).

great job by #12 as usual. Dont want to be repetitious so I'll skip all the comments but gotta love - Solder, Ras, Welker, the 2TEs

Jon Gruden - for a former HC; he is pretty dumb. Calling a power run on 4th goal right while they motion Marshall to the opposite side where a rookie CB is. Yeah I couldnt see that pass coming a mile away. And a couple other comments just make you go 'whaaaaaat??'

Well, I never knew that Woodhead was an everydown back. The number of times they ran him up the middle in traffic - I thought he was only a scat/option back. LOL.

A little disappointed we didnt see much of the new RBs though.

someone said they were disappointed in McCourty (that his game fell off) - not sure what game you were watching - he had the toughest receiver on the field to cvoer (who out heights him big time) and he was consistently on him tight and sticking his hands in there to disrupt the completions. He stopped a TD and he should have had a pick if the other Pat player didnt knock it out of his hands (who was that? 31? or other)

How stupid was Miami throwing that last pass to Marshall with nothing left to prove. It looked to me like a knee hyperextension or worst case he has ACL issues. Not good for Fish if so.

Miami was a lot better on O than expected (or is our D still suspect?); I suspect the former. I think Miami showed they are the true WC contender in the AFCE; not that other team. j-e-s-t-s; j-e-s-t-s; oh no we suk :bricks:

Haynesworth the comedian:

Haynesworth: "We won."

Can't argue with that, on reviewing the umbers the dolphins were 2 for 14 on 3rd down, that is a huge difference for the better and you are correct, however they did give up a lot of yards to someone who has in the past been at best a mediocre qb, I am concerned to see what Rivers will be bake to do next week, that is going to be huge test for this defense.

Not if tonight was any indication. His size/skillset are optimal at CB...especially against these larger receivers like Marshall, Megatron, etc.

Not to mention that Bodden is long in the tooth.

You talked me out of moving Dowling to Safety.

Re: the official post game thread

Mcourty had a rough night and hasnt looked like himself this pre season. I hope its not the sophomore slump.

Waters held his won and only had a false start.

I wish Vereen and Ridley played a bit, but Woody and BJGE picked up where they left off last season before the playoff meltdown.

Ocho struggled tonight.

Big test coming for the NE secondary next Sunday. Rivers aint Chad Henne.

I don't know, but I didn't think McCourty played bad tonight. Yeah, he gave up some plays, but many were in garbage time, and it wasn't like he getting tourched. Most of the balls were either well thrown balls, or great plays by Marshall. Marshall is an elite receiver that even gave Revis a tough time last year at Miami.

The most telling moments for me were seeing the Phins struggle from the 1 yard line, unable to run it in and unable to complete a pass. Dowling and McCourty all over the receivers. Haynesworth and Wilfork knocking back the middle.

Very impressive. Yes, they have a ways to go but they showed tonight the potential to be a top defensive unit.

heh....Fat Albert will nearly die and think he's gone to heaven if he smash/squashes that Jumpy Beanchez into a mass of tangled meat soup

Mcourty wasnt looking back for the ball like last season. It happened at Detroit this pre season vs Calvin Johnson too and Mcourty handled Johnson like a Pro last season.

He looked like Butler out there at times reacting after the WR made the catch.

McCourty is spending too much time peeking at the QB, and he's losing coverage. They'll fix that.

Bodden's struggling in the slot. They'll either fix that or switch it up.

Safety play sucks against the pass. I don't know if they can fix that.

Wilfork needs to lose weight. Hopefully, they'll fix that.

They need a center, either to start or backup, depending upon how comfortable they are with Connolly at the spot. They'll find someone. Hopefully, he'll be good enough.

All that aside, though, the offense was a joy to watch tonight, and the team was in control once they tied it up at 7. It was a good first game for the team, with a 2 score win and enough to work on that BB can still ride them for those mistakes.

Pass rush is awful as per usual. Drafting anyone who might fit that need is forbidden! My throat hurts from screaming about Henne having as much time as he did.

If Miami can keep it together they will give the JETS fits... Instead of Rex begging for volunteers to help knock us off, he better start focusing on finding a way for his team to beat the teams the JETS will face who couldn't. Cause they won't all hand you a giftwrapped W like the Cowgirls did...

Get over yourself.

Brady is the greatest ever. Patriots offense could average 30 points per game this season.

Defense is average at best and at times looks completely over-matched.

This was a good warmup for the Chargers. Shake off some rust, learn some things, get better for Rivers-Gates-VJax & Co. I'm thinking Rivers is looking at Henne's stats and thinking, "Pfft, I can do that." But BB has a lot to work with here as a coach, some good game film, and I'm looking forward to seeing this D develop.
