2011 NFL Free Agency 'Let's Sign This Guy' Thread

My personal #1 target: Quinten Mikell. Not an obvious need, but safety depth is a question mark. Sanders seems to be on a steep decline, and Meriweather's a question mark after this season. Plus, Mikell instantly goes a long way to solving that 3rd down defense problem.

After that, an OLB is obviously a big need. My feeling remains Roth.

HUH??? How is Sanders on a "steep decline"??

As for Mikell, He's ok, but he's more of a strong safety than a free safety. If the Pats were going to add a safety, I think I'd look at Donte Whitner before Mikell. and Weddle before either of them.

Apparently Charles Johnson has re-signed with Panthers/

According to PFT, the six-year, $76 million contract includes $32 million in guaranteed money and a $30 million signing bonus.

Would not surprise me if that was a "sign now and it's 30, sign later and it's 10" type of deal. That's an absolutely obscene amount of money up front. Tom Brady's deal, for example, had a $16M signing bonus.

Rich Seubert got released because the Giants are over the cap and I think the Pats should take a look. He's one of the better guards in the game and also excelled at center last season when O'Hara was out.

Unless they dumb Kaczur and Sanders, I think you are correct. With only 7.5 million and a rookie cap of 5.8 million, that's not a lot left..

Granted, there is the 3.5 million exemption. They could also free up money with Mankins, but that will take a lot of work.

NFL.com reports 6/72m. That's still a ton of money. Looks like the Panthers liked Johnson even better than Julius Peppers! The Falcons started a bidding war though or else it probably wouldn't have reached that level of compensation.

I just don't understand this. Its either they get someone tomorrow or its nothing. They start camp on freaking thursday. If they had a guy in mind/trade they would have done it today or have to do it tomrorow.

My gut is that that do nothing. If they do nothing, its probably a 10-6 team. Their schedule is as hard as last year and they WILL NOT have that turnover ratio that they did last year. Brady won't go 36-4 again. He'll probably have something like 28-12, based on that awesome field position they had last year.

This sucks. So much for a hectic FA for the pats.

Whoa, hey there buddy. I don't think many people were expecting the Pats to make a huge splash in free agency and I don't think the sky is falling just because they didn't. I'd love for them to add an OLB, OG, and maybe even a WR, but I don't think any of those are absolutely critical.

They can make deals with FA's but they can't officially sign them until Friday,and they can't participate in practice until signed I believe.
