Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

If Seymour is getting $15 million a year, it is good the Pats didn't resign him (although he would have probably signed for slightly less a year or two ago).

If he is happy, I am happy for him. I don't hold any ill will towards the guy.

Personally, if I was him, I would have taken less to go to a contender. Eventhough the Raiders seemed to start to head towards the right direction last year, who knows if that was a freak occurance. With a new coach, they could step back this year.

Seymour's got a few rings already. I'm not sure why he would take less to go to a competitor at this point. He's looking to get paid as much as he can now and the Raiders were willing to oblige. Good for him. Hopefully we can find his replacement this year.

Why would you hold ill will towards him? He helped us win 3 rings and got traded.
I agree with Pat Jew that he won plenty...now it is time to set up the little Seys and the little, little Seys.

Dude got his rings and now his family could be set for generations. Good for him.

Agreed. I'd rather retire with and extra $10-15million than have to auction off one of my 3+ rings on Ebay!

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

He used the system to maximum benefit ... good for him.

Raiders could have a 9 million guy and a 6 million guy instead and be better for it.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Good for Seymour, and typical Raiders move.

It sucked to trade Seymour away, and we still haven't adequately replaced him. But it really seemed to come down to deciding between Vince and Seymour for the franchise tag.

I think we made the right move, eventually signing Vince for 5 years, $40M, $25M guaranteed. Including last year's franchise tag, Seymour will rake in over $42M in 3 years, over $34M guaranteed, so I'm sure Seymour has no regrets about leaving town either.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Wow, nice Big Sey. He's going to retire with 3 rings and tons of $. I don't hold anything against him, especially after that punch to big ben. Do you guys still think he might have a shot at the HOF? Most people were saying he was a few years back.

He's a sure hall of famer, may not get in his first try but it will happen. 3 rings, 6 pro bowls.

And now... a ****load of ca$h.

Three rings from 2001-2004, $73M from 2006 to 2012. Not bad:eek:

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Best DT in the past decade, I think he's a hall of famer.

Probably Sapp actually....

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

It's nice to see Al Davis reward Seymour with a crap ton of money for all the hard work / Super Bowl winning he did in NE.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

I was just about to post the question of whether this type of Raider spending increases the chances of Michael Bush being set free and possibly being a good pickup here. But The Google tells me he was arrested for drunken driving the other day so ... maybe not.

Anyway, very nice work by Seymour. Smart man, tough dude with a lot of dignity, getting all he can out of life. Kudos too to the Pats for recognizing that this is what Sey was after, and getting something good for him while they could.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Still shaking my head at the money being given to Big **** Seymour.

****ie is a great player but this is a good indication of why the Raiders haven't been the Raiders in a long time.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Other than envy, I don't understand the big deal. As all but patriot posters understand, Seymour in the DE out there, and is has been enormously imporant in changing a weak Raiders defense to an average one. Arguably, he is as important to Oakland as Peppers is to Chicago, and get about the same amount of money. We'll see the final details when the contract is signed, but it seems that Seymour wanted to have a contract a bit higher than that of Peppers.

I find it amusing that so many posters here think that Seymour or Ngata aren't worth the money. The reality is that the patriots are a top team and CHOOSE not to spend huge money on top players not named Brady. Over the years, Belichick has CHOSEN a cap strategy of a more balanced use of cap money.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

37 wins.

8 seasons.

The Raiders are a joke.

Between drafting Jamarcus Russell and Darrius Heyward-Bey in the first round, the Raiders ******ed their growth while dropping piles of cash into the picks. Then there was the [then] record contract handed out to Tommy Kelly, the Nnambi contract [that voided itself] and now Seymour's record contract.

The Patriots, on the other hand, are taking advantage of the draft, trading players [such as Branch to SEA, Seymour to OAK, Moss to MIN and Maroney to DEN] for return on value and not relying on free agency [i.e. big contracts] to produce winning rosters. The Raiders could have kept their first round pick in 2010 and picked up a player like JJ Watt or Richard Quinn, etc. Nonetheless, I'm happy Seymour is buried in the AFC West on a team that [practically] promises not to compete year after year by their off season moves.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for Seymour and his family. Seymour is certainly a Hall of Famer and is still effective even at his age. Sorry we couldn't pay him/keep him, but its a business and he is handling his business very well.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

That is an offer that someone can't refuse. All that guaranteed money is worth a 4 or 5 yr deal. And the best part? In 2 years if he is smart he can walk away from the game some what with his health intact. Good for him.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

No one is comparing Oakland with the patriots.

In comparison with the patriots, most of the teams in the nfl "are jokes". If that makes you feel great, OK. yes, And, yes, Seymour was part of the move for 5-11 to 8-8.

The fact is that Oakland was 8-8 last year, rather than the top 5 pick that many folks here thought that they would be.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Hell yea Big Sey... get all the money you can!!!

One of my favorite pats of all time. Crazy to think that by the end of his deal, he will still only be like 33 I think. He's been a great player in this league for a long, long time.

The team has missed him BIG TIME over the last couple of seasons.

Well, we can both agree that no one is comparing the Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots. With that said, I my post wasn't a reply to anyone else's unwritten comparisons.

EDIT [simply]:

Moves like these, by teams like the Raiders, make me proud to be a Patriots fan.

(Better?)

There's no reason to be "proud" to be a Patriots fan because the Raiders paid a great player, any more than there was reason to be "proud" to be a Seahawks fan when the Patriots made Wilfork the highest paid NT in the league.

Re: OT: Seymour, Raiders strike 2-year deal

Congrats to Big Sey for a mega payday. Thanks for your years as a Patriot and I hope you retire relatively healthy. Best wishes.
