per Reiss Twitter....
Thoughts?
What's with the first round runningback crap?
Not if you saw Wheatley oft-injured, Wilhite regressing, Butler unimpressive, Springs finished. How many people would have been flipping out if they saw a Corner slotted as our pick last year?

I wonder why so many people were upset with the McCourty pick then. CB wasn't a top 3 need last season just like RB isn't this season.
The better description of Butler's play this season would be disappointing. From starter to bench to nickel.Last year everyone thought Butler was the future at CB. Now everyone hates him.
I would be shocked if the Patriots drafted a safety in the first three rounds. Based upon initial looks with the upcoming draft, the safety position looks rather weak.Personally, AT THIS POINT, I would be shocked with a corner before 35. I wouldn't be shocked by a safety. I expect us to use the first three picks for the offensive line and defensive fron seven, and perhaps a safety.
Many of us had us choosing among McCourty, Wilson and Jackson. Of course, we didn't have the info that Belichick had, so we had difficulty choosing among; also it depended on who was there. But rest assued, many of us had us choosing a corner with our first pick. Some even were pretty set that belichick would choose McCourty,
The bottom line is VALUE. Belichick will choose the BPNA, the best player at a position we need that is available.

The value does not supercede the need as opposed to the offensive or defensive lines. Belichick may bring back Faulk and Morris, the Patriots will then have four running backs on the roster for the 2011 NFL Season:not according to these...

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...329645-we-really-set-defensive-back.htmlagain we are talking about with our first round pick, there was value in the second round but many thought that CB wouldn't be our first pick. IMO this year Mark Ingram is a tremendous value late in round 1.

Green-Ellis
Woodhead

Adding another running back is a luxury not a need.
McShay's:The Patriots, year after year, manage to find solutions at running back. But there are solutions, and there are threats. And the fast-rising Leshoure, a chiseled 6-foot, 227-pound back who ran well in a physical Big Ten this past season, could be the alpha running back the Patriots could use. New England could go a lot of ways with this pick, but remember, the Pats have another pick just a handful of spots down the board and if they want a difference-maker at RB in a draft short on them, this is an option.
The other 1st round options I see left on the board for the Pats are the kid from temple and Cameron Jordan respectively.Running back is not necessarily a need and this is a bit of a luxury pick, but if the Patriots get a pass-rusher at No. 18 it would be hard for them to pass on the best running back in the draft.
Do we take an RB in the 1st rd.
I don't think so.
The hole at right offensive guard is far greater than at running back. The hole at outside linebacker is far greater than at running back. The hole at right defensive end is far greater than at running back. Besides, these ESPN clowns are never right when predicting New England Patriots drafts.Again the experts aren't speculating on who we may or may not bring back but rather what positions we are weak at. You also have to look at the way they mocked and who's left on the board.

Ryan KerriganKerrigan has a huge motor and would be a great 4-3 DE. I still have a hard time going so high on a 3-4 OLB coversion project though. He does have near-capable size for BB's OLB profie: 6'4", 263, if those measurements hold up.
