Despite the fact that this has blown over as a media event, it would not at all have been surprising or extraordinary had a competent ownership fired their face of the franchise for conduct detrimental to the brand.
See, you still make assumptions, where (and I'm guessing here), if this was Belichick in the exact same situation, you would be making opposite assumptions.

We know that Ryan made the video. That's all we know. Making a video to be watched privately between spouses is certainly not conduct detrimental to the team. Now, posting that for the world to see? That crosses a line. But you don't know if he posted it, his wife may just as well have.

Think back to some of the articles that were written about the Pats in 2007. They all started with a sliver of factual information (a Pats assistant was caught filming the Jets during a game) and then the writers kept filling in the blanks and filling in the blanks until they had written about what they thought Belichick was doing and how he should be punished for that rather than only the stuff that was proven. If I recall, posters called out every one of those articles. Then people here turn around and do it themselves? Pathetic!

And if Ryan appeared in Playgirl, there would also be repercussions (not the least of which, I'm sure, would be from the readers). But this is different, nobody ever showed that he intended to have his weird little video uploaded. If his wife did it on her own, it can't be his bad judgment (likewise for his wife in some, umm, unladylike poses).

But my real point has nothing to do with Ryan, what's sadder than Ryan are Pats fans being hypocrites. Ryan embarrasses Ryan, maybe he embarrasses the Jets, but stupid jackasses who happen to root for the Pats embarrass me.

I should start a Wall of Shame. Track people's comments about illegal hits, scandals, biased officiating, etc when it goes in our favor, and those same people's comments when similar things go in someone else's favor. I have a feeling those people have a warped sense of what's "fair", and possibly deep-seeded issues with their mothers.

My God, you sound like a Jets fan.

His wife did it on her own?

Where did you come up with that?

Buzarre.

No, we both know his wife didn't do it by herself. But where's your proof? Who knows, maybe the guy just has a foot fetish and his wife is the one with the exhibitionism fetish. The hypocrisy comes in when people try to interpret intent. Obviously Ryan is a clown so he meant to embarrass himself. Obviously Belichick is a good coach so anything he does can be explained away. But really, take away the incredibly biased opinions of some football fans, and all you're left with is evidence, and the evidence doesn't tell us who uploaded what. The way people fill in the blanks here you'd think they were auditioning for a job with ESPN.

That being said, I'm halfway on this because if a player appeared in Playgirl or a cheerleader appeared in Playboy, you can bet there would be repercussions.

Actually an NFL player has appeared with full frontally nudity in Playgirl. Cheerleader behavior is governed almost exclusively by the teams not the NFL.

Wow. Pujo, you may want to take the entire Prozac pill instead of just cutting them in half at this point.

Seriously, fella, are you ok?

But pulling things out of your *** (Hi, Michael!) and standing by its unassailable actuality is a time honored tradition here!
I know, and I try to remember that this is the internet, after all. But then I go to a Vikings or Jets messageboard and it's clear that they, on the whole, have more intelligent conversations about football than we do. Some people here can never give credit where it's due if it's aimed at anyone but the Pats. I'm glad I've been to so many games and met so many great fellow Pats fans, because if this board was my only interaction, I'd have to think this is the least deserving fanbase in the NFL.

I'm a happy man on a mission. And I'm glad you dropped by, because you're one of the ******s I was talking about (no hard feelings, I hope).

When I asked, "Seriously, who wants to be the first to tell me why, if it was Belichick and not Ryan, this shouldn't be a big deal?" and you wrote "Because, Mr. Pujo, Belichick is a 100% different psyche than Ryan. There is not one iota of EXHIBITIONIST in Belichick. Ryan, in all facets of his life, is an EXHIBITIONIST." Why did you think that somehow answered the question? It was pretty clear that I was talking about a hypothetical situation, where if it had been Belichick accused of the same thing, what would the reaction be? It takes a very special kind of homerism to not even want to hypothetically criticize Belichick had he done the exact same thing as someone you're criticizing.

Suddenly, I have an intense inferiority complex regarding Jets and Vikings fans..................

Because there is nothing in Belichick's makeup that anyone would ever term him an exhibitionist. Ryan is a "look at me" kinda guy for many, many years. It is a PATTERN with him.

When you write such an incredibly hypothetical "what if" scenario about Belichick, you may as well just as "What if your Aunt Gwendolyn had testicles".

It is what it is, Mr. High Blood Pressure. :D

No, no, Reflex!!!! Pujo teaches us all that they are on the same high intelligence plane with Vikings fans!

Man, people would pay good money for this kind of comedy writing!!!!

Gotcha, so if it happened to Belichick, you'd be incredibly shocked because it doesn't seem like it's in his nature (I agree), but fair being fair, you'd support the same punishment you think Ryan should get, right?

I've read quite a few posts over there where Jets fans were giving the Pats their due props, which is way more than this board would do if the shoe was on the other foot.

Lots of different people everywhere, I'm sure Vikings fans have plenty of their own shmessys.

Yes. Pretty simple. There will be no "punishment", and I never felt there should be any. Just that it adds to the history of Ryan and his choices when it comes time for any NFL team to judge whether or not they want him as a head coach. His history of creating distractions and of a general lack of focus and discipline will and should be part of how he is looked at.

Stick to the facts. The loser had stuff on the internet that was a serious embarrassment to his employer for having put someone with such a lack of judgement in an executive position. As I said previously, from personal extensive experience of 20 years as a VP in private industry, had anyone in customer visible management in any of the several companies I worked for ever done such a thing that was an embarrassment to the company image, the CEO and/or BOD would most likely have fired them. Speaks volumes about what the Jets ownership perceives about their image.

It really depends on the industry. A bank based in Georgia might react very differently from a tech company in Silicon Valley. And what about a film production company in Hollywood? Football is entertainment and closer to Hollywood than financial services. It's also very skewed towards rewarding winners and punishing losers at the expense of other factors, which is going to really suck for Ryan in another season or so, but no way is a foot fetish video bringing down any NFL coach unless it happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Wow, after my other rants today, that was almost on topic.

Is that some kind of bad joke? Here's the thing with Jabba Wrecks and his footsie videos: The man has serious issues if you look beyond that at the seamy underbelly of this story, which is the alt.com profile. The BDSM swinger lifestyle is a loaded gun waiting to go off for ANY public figure.
