Brady, in the MVP race?

If you don't lead your team to the playoffs, you're not getting the MVP, simple as that. That's not only MY belief, but the belief of voters for over 30 years now.

That is why they have offensive/defensive player of the year awards. Anyone saying "Rivers is the MVP right now" does not understand what the award means. It is not for the best statistical performance.

And just to be clear, this has NOTHING to do with me having an anti-Chargers bias or something. I made it loud and clear that Rivers should of won the MVP in 2008. He made the playoffs, won the division, had better stats and then even BEAT Manning in a playoff game that year. That was just absolute nonsense to me that Manning won.

Manning's Colts are also not a playoff team right now so he is also not a MVP candidate if the season ended today. That's just a fact. People in this topic are criticizing the system instead of discussing if Brady is in the actual MVP race, which he is right now.

So a month from now when the Chargers are in first and Rivers production doesn't change, he can be MVP...cool/thread

No, it's not the BEST player. It's the most VALUABLE to his team.

Phillip Rivers VALUE is that he makes the Chargers a 3rd place team in the AFC West instead of of perhaps a 4th place team. Tom Brady makes the Patriots tied for the best record in the NFL.

If you want to go on stats alone, then Phillip Rivers is a fine front-runner for offensive player of the year.

Once again it is nonsensical and ridiculously flawed logic to define value the way you and the idiot writers define it. And because the idiots define "valuable" that way it makes the MVP award petty and meaningless IMO.

Should the Super Bowl MVP go to a player on the losing team?

That's your logic, that MVP means "best statistical performance".

Brady will never be in Clayton't idea of MVP as long as Peyton Manning is able to rest his balls on Clayton's chin.

Manning and Rivers only chances of making the playoffs are by winning their respective divisions, as the two wild cards will be coming of the AFC East and North.

Super Bowl MVP is really Super Bowl Winner MVP. If it was up to me, the SB MVP won't always go to the winner. If the Pats are beating the Giants in the Super Bowl 7-3 mostly due to Woodhead having 200 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards and a rushing TD but all of a sudden at the one yard line with 5 seconds to go, BJGE fumbles and Tuck who has been having a terrible game recovers the ball and runs it in for a touchdown who do you think is all of a sudden no more MVP?
Teams overall record should not determine ones value to the team

I won't even consider Brady the clear MVP on our team.

Lets take this for example Pete. i hope it makes sense.

In order to be considered a Fortune 5 company, you have to be worth over $12.00
In 2009 Company A is worth $10. They hired John, a Harvard graduate to become their CEO. At the end of the business year, Company A's value is doubled to $20....However, John leaves Company A at the end of the year for Company B, a struggling company.
In 2010, Company A's value is $20 and Company B's value is only $5. However, Company A has now hired BC graduate Pat to become its new CEO while Company B has John as CEO. By the year end, Company A's value decreases to $15 but Company B's value increases to $10.
Who is the MVP/MVCEO?

Brady (7-2)

Manning (6-3)

Peyton Manning leads the league in attempts, he threw it 82 more times than Brady with less TDs so its getting clear each week who is having a better season. Wayne is better than any of our receivers.

I'm not sure why you keep posting these meaningless stats.
The only stat that matters for regular season MVP is "How many times does 'Peyton' appear on your driver's license?"

Nobody's obviously better than Brady, but Brady's obviously better than everybody. Best TD INT differential, best record in the league, most impressive wins, highest scoring team, totally mediocre and/or unproven receiving core. Doesn't mean the writers who vote it up see it that way, though.

Passing yards are easily the most deceiving stats. Roethlisberger threw for a staggering number of yards. That happens when you're playing from well behind.

The post that mentioned players on non-playoff teams never getting the award was right. In 86, Marino threw for 4700 yards and 44tds, which back then was second most all time, behind only himself in 84. But his team didn't make the playoffs, so the award went to Lawrence Taylor of the 14-2 Giants.

Winning records in the league almost always gets special consideration. Media good will help too. Look at both of Manning most recent MVPs, or even Montana in 1990. Neither were close to the best QB in ANY category, but they put up impressive winning records. Recent history holds, Brady's MVP (right now). It'd be unfair if he isn't, and a clear sign of a double standard.

Pete, mind throwing in Completions/attempts, YPA and comp%

Rivers if the MVP was voted by rational people, and since it's not I don't really care what irrational people decide.

Rivers has faced the 21st, 23rd, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, and 32nd passing defenses. I mean, that is just ridiculous - he has literally faced 5 out of the WORST SIX passing defenses in the NFL. It borders on throwing his stats out the window until he plays some real teams.

Chris Mortensen says Brady is the MVP of the first half of the season.

Mortensen on D&C: Brady MVP of first half

"If [Vick] maintains this pace and stays healthy, he missed three games in the first half of the season. He was not the MVP of the first half of the season. Tom Brady was."

I'd have to ask where those teams would be lying if you excluded their game against the Chargers.

No question for me though. Vick despite missing a couple of games with injury has been the outstanding player so far. What I seen last night was just awesome in every way from him. He is miles ahead of everybody in the MVP race imo.

Your list isn't credible if you leave off Rivers, sorry.
1) Rivers
2) Brady
3) Vick
4) Peyton Manning
5) Roddy White
