Until he hits a big game winner he is going to keep missing pressure field goals.
Umm, yeah sound logic

I agree he is not clutch. it goes back to Belichck not going to him to close it on the superbowl and he has had a mental block ever since. Until he hits a big game winner he is going to keep missing pressure field goals.
e press about the blowout, but I still have this image of Gostkowski missing a no-pressure FG during last year's loss in the Superdome from the same spot on the same field towards the same endzone from which Adam won SB XXXVI.
That one of the reasons why Vinatieri is maybe the best kicker than ever played the game and Gostkowsky right now has a OUTSTANDING leg who gets a lot of touchbacks but a bad FG kicker when it matters
I'm happy for him and as far as I can see, he deserves it. But looking ahead, I'll be happy when he starts making most of the two kicks he missed today, because, at some point, we're going to need him to make kicks like that with everything on the line.
It was lost in all the press about the blowout, but I still have this image of Gostkowski missing a no-pressure FG during last year's loss in the Superdome from the same spot on the same field towards the same endzone from which Adam won SB XXXVI.
QFT.
The next clutch kick the Ghost makes will be his first.
And his inability to make kicks of even slight difficulty might indeed be traced to the way Bill treated him in the SB. That was one of many, many ******ed decisions/plays throughout the worst day in franchise history.
He has the leg for the long kicks but not the accuracy it seems. I know kicks in the high 40s are not easy and a lot of them are missed but he's getting way too much leniency in this thread. I have seen him miss more of those than I am comfortable with and at some point, they will hurt.
He's a very good kicker though.
Please stop comparing Gost to AV in careers, that is very unfair to Gost. Gost has been more consistent in his first 4 years than AV was.
Here are the first 4 years
FGM/FGA
AV-80.1% 109/136
SG-85.1% 103/121
40-49
AV-65.1% 28/43
SG 67.8% 19/28
50+
AV-71.4% 5/7
SG-80.0% 4/5
Playoffs
AV-62.5% 5/8
SG-81.1% 9/11
I can see all the stats in the world, but I don't trust Gost to make a big kick. It feels like a total coin flip on anything over 35 yards. AV for a long time was pretty automatic, especially when they really needed the points. Gostowski has the big leg, but he misses too many for my liking. Yesterday's 47 yarder was a good example - in perfect conditions at home, everything going our way, he should make that.
AV was the same for me until 2001. I never trusted AV until that Oakland game. I am just saying please stop comparing SG 4 years to AV 15 years it is not a fair comparison.
I'm not saying to cut him or even disagreeing with the extension. His kickoffs are amazing. He just has to improve his FG accuracy, and I think he has the potential to do that. I just hope he hurries up - he's a vet now and we're depending on him.
Agreed. It just never ceases to amaze me how irrational some people get about certain things.

Yeah, and I still have these flashbacks of Vinatieri missing a pair of chipshots in Superbowl 38.
