Take that, Mankins! :lol2:

Four year extension
$14M, about $3.5M per year
$5M guaranteed
Will take effect after he plays 2010 on his RFA tender
Free agent in 2015.

Sebastian Janikowski for the Raiders signed a $16M/4yr contract in February. I believe this makes Gostkowski the second-highest paid kicker in NFL history, if I'm not mistaken.

"ouch" for Mankins.

Pats reach extension with Gostkowski

According to Reiss, the Pats have reached an extension with Gostkowski. Supposedly a 4 year deal, but terms haven't been released.

Re: Gostowski signs an extension

AWESOME!
Seriously, we now have our three specialists (K, P and LS) locked up as well as a couple of returners.

Re: Pats reach extension with Gostkowski

Other than Janikowski, are any kickers making more than $3.5M a year? I thin Gostkowski was just made the second highest paid kicker.

It could be argued that Gostowski is one of the best players at his position on the team.

Glad to hear we locked him up.

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

Great news... we'll have a lot of touchbacks for the next 5 years, not to mention his excellent consistency. Hopefully we're just as good at drafting punters.

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

Good stuff. Ghost is one of the best kickers in the league right now. Glad to see he's locked up. To be honest, though, I kind of forgot about his contract situation with all of the talk about Mankins around here.

I was well aware of his situation, but was quietly hoping something would get done. I'm VERY relieved to see he's locked up for the foreseeable future. He's a great kicker, and we're lucky to have him. :rocker:

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

Man...About 30% of the posts in this thread have the word "Mankins" in it. With mine, it'll be over... is he Hanibal Lecter or what?

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

The Pats FO decided they couldn't keep all five big signings. So high-priced Seymour was traded, and they tried to keep the other four. Wilfork was signed, now Gostkowski is signed. That leaves Mankins and Brady. Brady will be signed probably in the next offseason; and sooner or later the Mankins situation will be resolved.

If Logan wants big numbers the Pats could offer him essentially the same contract now offered except extended to an 8 year contract with $12 million salaries in years 7 & 8, averaging 8+ million per year.

He would never collect a dime on years 7 & 8, when he is a 35 and 36 year old Guard, but the contract would be valued at $8 million per, and he would no longer be "insulted". I'm almost certain that Belichick was astonished that Mankins turned down the $7 million per year deal.

Meanwhile congratulations to Gostkowski, a product of that poor draft that only gave us a starting RB and a Probowl Kicker; and a ST tackling Ace.

Great, great news! The Patriots have had such a long string of good placekicking that it's easy to forget just how excruciating an unreliable kicker is.

For the full package of accuracy, FG length and KO length, Gostkowski is one of the best.

Win.

Good for Ghost he definitely deserves it. I am always confident when he is called upon for field goals. He is very good on kickoffs. Cant ask for much more from a kicker. Good signing.

ps - Logan Mankins... you know just to boost the thread's Mankins ratio

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

All of the recent significant contract signings have involved players rolling in their RFA or remaining rookie deal year or years, contrary to what some players and agents apparently anticipated. We're not the only meanies on the block. I also doubt the media is explaining the deal correctly in their rush to report. All of those guys also got a substantial bump in pay from that RFA or remaining year this year, they always do. Gostkowski's new money is $3.5M per, his 5 year average is $3.15M per. His salary will probably be lowered to the minimum and he will get a signing bonus likely in excess of his tender in addition to it.

Re: Gostowski extended through 2014

But ...wait.This can't be true. I keep reading that the Jets and Broncos and other teams are showing the Pats how it's done because the Pats don't know how to sign their own guys.
