So, between the two of them Tom and Gisele make something like $50 million a year. Young, good-looking, successful, rich, famous, humble and religious. I cannot imagine what that must be like.

It is kinda funny going to the Jets board where they are all spinning this as a bad deal since this will be Brady's last good year because injuries will take its toll and the Pats' have no more talent. You know what? Give me a declining Brady at $19 million a year over Mark Sanchez for the veteran minimum anyday.

It is kinda funny going to the Jets board where they are all spinning this as a bad deal since this will be Brady's last good year because injuries will take its toll and the Pats' have no more talent. You know what? Give me a declining Brady at $19 million a year over Mark Sanchez for the veteran minimum anyday.

Well, they're not quite as confident as they were last year that Sanchez will become Brady's equal (or even good, for that matter)... instead they pretty much have to hope that Brady declines.

I think Brady will enjoy that honor until sometime early next year probably in February or March. The Colts have allowed their big name guys to play out their contract and even franchise them to get a deal done. I don't see Manning signing until after the football year.

The 30% rule applies to extensions to existing contracts which this is. Brady's basis for the 30% rule wasn't much of an issue since his basis is not this year's salary it is last years plus any amortized amounts from earlier bonuses. Brady's basis is around $10M. What they can't do is guarantee future amounts fully (skill and injury) beyond what was guaranteed this year which was none unless it fits under their 2009 cap if reallocated. That means most of Brady's guaranteed money has to be in the form of a signing bonus.

It will indeed be interesting to see what the structure is. The terms of Revis deal haven't leaked out yet though the JETS reported to Andrew Brandt that his guaranteed amount was for both. They can't do that so the real deal with him has to be nothing is guaranteed until "the next league year". He only sees about $5M this year. Can't imagine Tom agreed to this or was asked to. I'd expect about $25M+ in signing bonus and close to $50M eventually (when it can be) guaranteed.

His new money average ($19.5 according to Curran) and his "practical" 5 year average ($16.8) should both set marks for the moment. Eli was just over $16M in new money and just under that in average (because his extension retained his final rookie year too thereby lowering the total deal average). Peyton Manning will top that, Brees might top or will closely mirror it.
