I agree the word "antichrist" is a bit overused, b/c in Rev, the one world leader in the final stretch(3 1/2 - 7 years) is called "the beast", no argument here. Scripture says that the 1st beast, "the beast" comes out of the bottomless pit when the 5th trumpet is sounded, and his name in the Greek tongue is Apollyon(which means Destroyer). The 2nd beast is the false prophet which worketh false and deceiving signs and lying wonders.
So scripture has pretty much established that the LITERAL antichrist(or counterfeit christ, 1st beast, etc) is what it says in the 5th trumpet passage. As for who the identity of the false prophet? I dunno - however, it looks like 'lord maitreya' could play a big role in the end times. He and Benjamine Creme have taken credit for every lying sign and wonder over the last 30 or so years(i.e. illuminated crosses on buildings and in the skies, statues of mary crying, images of mary in the sky, false "healings", etc).
Satanists from 100 or so years ago like PH Blavatsky and Alice Cooper supposedly had familiar spirit channelling(i.e. really demon channelling) - they're the ones in their writings that 'prophecied' over this 'one world teacher' emerging anytime in the future to bring 'peace' et al(albeit a false one) into the new age of aquarius.
Interesting it happened around the time period when the NIV bible(which was made by 2 high level occultists Wescott and Hort, who were good buddies with Charles Darwin) came out(1881) and spawned many corrupted bible versions.
And for those of you who watch CNN regularly, there were like 2 maitreya ads, and their ad message went something like this, 'he's the Christ to Christians, who are expecting his imminent return, he's Muhammed to Islam, he's maitreya to Buddha, he's Krishna to the Hindus, etc'. The 'he's the christ to christians, who are expecting his imminent return...' is really creepy, b/c this is what the PRE-TRIB RAPTURE teaches(Christ's return is imminent). As we all know, the pre-trib rapture is a DOCTRINE FROM HELL(i.e. there's many, many passages in the bible proving this wrong).
